Crazy how NY was salty but obviously didn't listen to lyrics because even in that category Kast could compete with anyone that NY had to offer. Dres verse in this alone could've been the Source quotable of the year.
People in the comments are misconstruing the crowd. They were down with OutKast this is just around the time when people were really catching on to what they were doing. Just because the building isn’t falling apart due to a great performance doesn’t mean the crowd was hating. They came back with Rosa Parks and burned the building down
I.can remember everybody was on that east west shit and this sophomore album was a great time fantastic ride if these cats came to Pittsburgh I would be there front row .These guys helped through alot in my life .Then that Ms Jackson after that k was going v through it My daughter is 26 now how time flies .I want a new album sothernplayalistic 2
Pay attention to the crowd. No response no reaction. NYC was hating on the South hard in the 90s. Now, look at the NY rappers today, sounding like they're from the South and from Chicago. SMH.
Exactly, they didn't know they were hating on what would be one of the most iconic hip hop groups ever in hip hop. Me being from the south and being all about hip hop I always loved rap no matter where it came from !! Like you said nowadays NY have to go with the current sound and wave. That's because the culture has changed a lot.
@kgthoughts NYC was hating on the south back then. It was that deep. You're talking about a time when NY was used to being the mecca. I know my hip hop timeline because I've followed it my whole life. These days, yes, New York loves the south because the dynamics and landscape has changed. It's a different wave now. It was either get on board or get steam rolled. And I love NY hip hop.
You're talking about Scarface/Geto Boys and Outkast. Groups that were so phenomenal through their body of work everyone had to acknowledge it. The fact that they even went to the Apollo to get their push speaks volumes. I lived the Geto Boys rise to fame. I bought every album since the 80s. They weren't getting any Grammys back in the early 90s. Even Andre 3000 went on record saying the south has something to say at one point. Certain groups in the south broke barriers. Nowadays that Atlanta wave is what mostly everyone is on with the exception of Wutang who stays true to what they have always done.
