I'm French trying to learn some scottish but end up being taught French .... :P but as it's by Sam, I don't really mind, he can teach me my own language any time

It's not uncommon for Scottish clan mottos to appear in French because France is the home of heraldry, and we also had a close ties with France historically. 😊

« Je suis prest » is actually comming from the french « Je suis prêt » (prounounced the same) where the « ê » is for the old « es » so: « je suis prest » :)

Kinda glad to be German as there is a ch sound lol. It’s just much harsher in Gaelic than in German lol

Actually they have both, the harsh ch of loch when "slenderized" with an "e" or an "i" becomes like the German ich, as in deich, ten.

That's why German pronunciation is easier for Scottish folk than English folk, because we retain the 'ch' for loch. Even easier for gàidhlig speakers because of all the other sounds that don't appear in English but are common in Germanic languages.

Clan Frazier were originally descended from Norman French warlords invited into Scotland by the Scottish kings. Hence the French motto. It means “I am ready”. They later on became very Gaelic in culture.
