Very nice looking bow and nice curves when drawn. Very low hand shock from a English style longbow is good news for those that have medical problems that wouldn't normally allow them to shoot a ELB of a decent draw weight . The area you film in is beautiful and reminds me of the Trier/ Kell am See area in the Mosel valley.

Thankyou for this wonderful review. I am in love😍 (with this bow I mean). I laughed when you said just one more, I can see why. There is something special and unique about the English Longbow and I knew from the first time I used one it was the rype of bow for me.

I want to begin by saying just how much I appreciate the time and effort you put in to making your video's. Now, I have just subscribed to your RU-vid channel and I would classify myself as a Traditional archer. I shoot both hybrid longbows and recurves bows. I have only watched two of your bow reviews, the Anubis and the Outlaw. One thing that I enjoy and find very helpful in bow reviews in general, is when the reviewer compares the bow to other similar bows in the same price range. It gives me a different perspective of the bow and its pros and cons. I don't know if this is something you can do in your reviews just saying it's something very useful to me and I'm sure others as well. Looking forward to catch up on your other video's. Shoot straight.

I have 8 longbows from Bickerstaffe bows. I get zero handshock from any of my bows. My latest is a signature longbow made for me by Pip Bickerstaffe. It is Single growth ring Hickory backed Ipe with a purpleheart and Chackte vega core between those cores is an extremely thin lamination of Hickory heartwood. It is 82" from string groove to string groove. It is very fast and very smooth and as I said, not a trace of Handshock. It's 52# and I use 60# arrows but I think the bow would easily shoot 70# arrows as it eats up the 60's. It seriously outshoots my Yew selfbow which os also 52#. I find lemonwood bellied bows are smooth but not lightening fast like a belly of Osage or Ipe. Your bow looks very nice though. Dave.

That thing is amazing. I built an longbow "English" style back in the 1990's. It was black walnut (belly) with a .125 laminate of Hickory. I think it was around 64 or 66 inches. I was surprised how quick it shot for only being around 34 to 38 lbs. (I was using a bathroom scale). I got about twenty five shots out of it before it broke. The walnut wasn't the best piece.

Top of my "must buy list"! Love the tiller allowing the arrow to pass in the center of the bow. Looks beautiful! I shoot a lot of different bows, from recurves to longbows. Even have a custom 70 lb. Pip Bickerstaffe has just made me a signature Longbow that is 82" long from string groove to string groove. Single growth ring Hickory backed Ipe with a purpleheart and Chackte vega core that has a very thin lamination of Hickory sapwood between the two cores. 52# . The Bow is mega quick and silky smooth to shoot. I have never had any trace of handshock from any of my Bickerstaffe bows, do you get any handshock? I feel that handshock is caused by too light a weight arrow and the handshock is caused by wasted energy. Bickerstaffe bows love heavy arrows and in my new 52# bow I shoot 60# arrows and the bow is still extremely lively with no drop in performance whatsoever. I may try 70's as it eats up the 60's. I also have two Standard Bickerstaffe bows. A 40 & a 50#. Those are sooo forgiving to shoot and a real pleasure to draw and release. I have 3 more Hickory/Osage/Osage Bickerstaffe bows....one a pyramidal flatbow. All are superb. Dave.

My OCD is kicking off with this bow, beautiful it may be but the limbs look uneven in length and at full draw it seems asymmetrical...would drive me nuts. Looks reminiscent of a yumi in that regard all be it to a smaller extent.
@RobinhoodarrowsRHA
@RobinhoodarrowsRHA 4 года назад
I see where youre coming from but there is a reason for it. The arrow pass is exactly in the middle of the bow, this makes the lower limb effectively shorter than the top. Most ELB's situate the grip central rather than the arrow pass. Give symetrical look but not as effecient 😊.

Saw this video a while back and now coming back to it, I was wondering if you could explain why it’s consider taboo to shoot anything but wooden arrows out of an ELB? Is it mainly because of how tradition dictates or is it because of safety reasons? Thanks!
@RobinhoodarrowsRHA
@RobinhoodarrowsRHA 5 лет назад
Hi, its a very good question. The majority is pure traditionalism but there is a bit of "ass covering" in there too. Many ELB manufacturers dont like light arrows being used with there bows because of fears that they'll go bang. Ive used carbon arrows with my Outlaw (and not even particularly heavy ones) after checking with the bowyer personally. His response was "use whatever you like, it wont hurt the bow". My own reason for wanting to use carbons was I dont use Zwickey Judo points on woodies and I love to go stumping 😎

English archers shot on both sides of the bow. There are multiple paintings from archers from different angles. The artist got the draw, stance, clothing and armour right he wouldn't get which side of the bow they used. But we have been told that nope they only shot on the left hand side which is not true. More English archers should start doing it. I find it a much better way of shooting and I've shot on the left side for years then switched over to the right side and in one day I noticed the benefits. They must have to individually as shown

@educatedmanholecoverbyrich8890
As a toxophalist of 45+ years practice, I noticed you did not draw the bow to the ear. Not doing so is bad practice, because you lose power (12%) in that six inches (12:joules of energy).
@rattytattyratnett
@rattytattyratnett 5 лет назад
Where one anchors the draw, usually depends on whether the bow is victorian target ELB, or a warbow. Target bows are shot anchoring to the side of the face. Warbows are generally shot full draw. The bow shown is not a war bow, as it is of a low weight, it has a leather handle, which is not seen on war bows.
@N0rnagest
@N0rnagest 4 года назад
... that's about the size of a hankyu bow (A short yumi) and also the grip is wildly asymmetrical... just like traditional Japanese bows But is there a correlation with English or Welsh longbow.?
@callumclark3358
@callumclark3358 3 года назад
It does look a bit odd. Hard to believe that arrow-pass is exactly central, but if they say it is I'm sure they're right. I would expect the top of the grip to be at the centre, but I think the Japanese have some VERY long bows with enormous upper limbs. Maybe to do with horseback use, maybe so comparatively short men can use very long bows. Knowing the Japanese, there'll be a bit of esotericism ( is that a word? ) involved.
