As a parent Outschool is by far the best resource I have during covid lockdowns for socializing. I’ve never had a bad experience and my kids have a class pretty much every day.
I really like that you touched on competitive classes potentially helping your classes. Outschool has been running FB ads for another class like mine (it’s about puberty for girls). At first when I saw the ads, I was pretty down, but then things changed for me. Those ads have actually increased MY class sizes and increased demand for my class.
You made some really great points. I love teaching on Outschool. The 30% does not bother me now. I used to teach for VIPKID and now I basically feel like VIPKID was robbing teachers blind with how high there cut is.
Thank you for being so honest and helpful. "My friend" wants to apply because he's looking for something with a little more control. Wow, that was pretty impressive earnings for five months! Was glad to hear that full-time income is possible. The hard truths are very helpful indeed. Thanks!
Thank you for your honesty about the struggle because these other videos, "how I made $1,000's my first month!" are absolute hype and all about recruiting from people who go on to sell make-up or friggin' lifestyle videos! The reality is, after six months of hit and miss, disappointment, constant revisions that contradict each other (oh, yeah, they're bureaucrats), and 40+ "canceled for lack of enrollment" notices... um, I'm living off the food bank handouts and digging in dumpsters. It's not all that they make it out to be. At. All.
I would love for someone to look at my schedule and classes and see what I can do better. I'm going to put my face in my thumbnails right now and change most of my classes to one-time classes. I really hope this helps. I currently have five classes scheduled every day at all different times so I can see when the best times are to offer classes, and usually if I'm lucky, I will get one student, total, for the day. It's getting discouraging, but I'm going to keep trying! Thanks for your video.
I agree with what you said about competition. There are classes on OS similar to mine, but not exactly like mine. If students like my niche, having them take other classes keeps them interested in the niche and coming back for my unique style and perspective. awesome video!
Exactly! And when they scroll down on the other class listing, they will see a section of "Classes like this". Often times, your class will show up there and lead to more eyes on your classes.
I was so nervous, starting out watching this because I’m just starting out but I love that you brought something positive to each con. You’re awesome! I already started my application and I wish I found you sooner because I would love your help!!!
Hi! I would love some pointers on how to get more students! I just taught my first class today. I had one awesome student! She was awesome but I just had one student a thirteen year old who signed up to learn about chemical reactions. I have a learning about the periodic table with coloring class up with no takers yet :( Do you have any advice on how to be successful as a high school chemistry teacher? I have taught math I (typically freshman math), taught chemistry and AP chem. I am thinking I am going to need to create different content for different types of students. I also coached competitive gymnastics for ten years so I was thinking of making something for kids who love gymnastics. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!! :)
Hello Daniel! First of all, I wanted to let you know that you are absolutely amazing! Second... I plan on teaching Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. What are my chances of getting hired?
I would recommend trying to teach more than just ESL. Yes, ESL classes can succeed on Outschool, but most of the students are fluent English speakers already.
just came across your video, im a spanish native speaker and im interested in teaching online but my only experience teaching is with my kids (both are bilingual, ages 19 and 6) and some friends that asked me to teach them. would you mind giving me suggestions how to prepare a class for outschool?
I would check out some sample classes on RU-vid (I have some, but there are a lot of great ones from other RU-vidrs). This will give you an idea of what a class looks like in action.
I do have a bachelor degree and experience with mentor and tutoring beginner through adolescent students. I've taught faith/ethics & health but I'm in my fifties with a full beard. Should I still try to apply to these schools? Ty4 now!
Hello, I just applied to teach at Out school. I would love to have you as a mentor, I have your email to contact you concerning some questions I’m having getting started? Thanks!
Yep as a sports person you know competition is good! :) I’ve been teaching with them for 13 weeks. Finally finding my groove and steady schedule. It’s been great.
@@teacherdanielonline I started out with bees and Hawaiian language believe it or not and that was busy during the summer but it dropped off so I started teaching PE and beginner reading and math. K-2 ish.
