The problem is, daydreams are more stimulating than work or studying, so I’ll just sit there and dream instead of getting anything done. Even if I get rid of everything else, I can’t get rid of my brain.
@hugofontes5708

I didn't even think of daydreams, I just recalled occasions where me or several friends just stared at a wall because we couldn't do The Thing™ but didn't allow ourselves to do anything else either. Also, I may have missed something, does he just like not play videogames or watch videos/streaming anymore? Because the moment he does, that's the most stimulating thing.

I'm gonna be a bit blunt. Sometimes it takes more than just "getting work done", It can take medication, or a good therapist, or adressing certain stress factors, etc. In my case at some point I was hanging with the wrong crowd and had to cut ties with people who were making my life hell, and at an other point I simply didn't know I had a neurological condition that significantly affects how I navigate through daily life and I recently had to restructure my entire life arount that. No amount of productivity advice can fix these types of issues.

This is something that I have been thinking about. Whenever I was back in Romania on the countryside, I had no service… so all I did was relax, help around the house and read. I swear I feel like I was more alive back then than when I am here watching tiktok and youtube videos. Even watching a movie feels difficult when the phone is around…
@Smich
@Smich 10 месяцев назад
im sorry but this has to be the most dystopian productivity video I've ever seen. "Take everything you find fun out of your life so that work is the ONLY thing you enjoy" is a horrifying message. please have fun and do the things you enjoy. you need time to relax and do the things you love. See your friends, play video games, watch TV shows - do what makes you happy, don't reduce your life to "the grind"
@mose3775
@mose3775 10 месяцев назад
I was thinking the same thing. It’s a lovely idea on paper, “If you take out the overstimulating things, suddenly boring stuff becomes interesting.” But if work becomes the highlight of your day each day, then what are you living for? More work? I completely understand and support getting rid of some of the outliers, like scrolling on TikTok or Twitter, but at a certain point, you’ve removed all of the joys of life. If work has to be the most stimulating thing in your day, then what about reading? Going on walks? Spending time with friends? I find those much more stimulating than work sometimes, so I guess I’m not allowed to do those? That was a bit of an extreme. I think it comes down to finding a balance. Extremes are usually not the best options because the world doesn’t work in extremes. You certainly shouldn’t spend 10+ hours overstimulating yourself with video games or scrolling, but you also shouldn’t cut everything fun out of your life. Unfortunately, you have to work to find a balance; cut out the outliers and limit the amount of time you can spend on the highly-stimulating stuff. Whoops I didn’t mean to rant like that.
@moose3493
@moose3493 9 месяцев назад
Exactly, at first I thought the advice was going to be “remove all other stimulus from your room/office while you work for a few hours” which is great advice, not give up all your hobbies and friends. I work to live and to be able to have a decent life, for some pocket change for bus fare for hanging out with my friends, and to buy fun things. Why would I want to have NOTHING in my life but work?

@@lymphomasurvive I think you missed our point. The guy in the video definitely has different priorities, and he found a system that works for him. We’re not saying that fun is our only goal in life. There was probably some miscommunication. I have seen this dude play with his cat,spend time with his grandma and go for runs(For some people that may be torture but it's enjoyable if the place you are running in is beautiful just like walking. So I think the point is to minimize stuff that is overstimulating to the very minimum like RU-vid shorts to 2-3 vids a day and use more productive things as entertainment instead like when you are bored or tired of maths you can read for your English assignment (That is genuinely entertaining,how do you think people entertained themselves 200 years ago). You are bored and tired from lifting,you can go play basketball. And to totally remove all distractions when working,like for 3 hours you just code and do nothing else. The dose decides the poison.

I feel you there. I’m a freshman in college but my sophomore year of high school feels like it was just a few weeks ago. One of the key takeaways I got from high school (and am still failing to apply lol) is to not overload yourself. Definitely do what’s important for your goal, but also do some kind of fun elective or extracurricular. If you don’t have a goal yet, that’s fine. Nobody in high school should be expected to know exactly what they want to do in life. Hell, I’m still not sure, although I have a basic idea. What I’m trying to say is don’t sign up for more than you can handle just to look good to some university. I tried doing marching band and Boy Scouts and a bunch of AP classes and it nearly killed me my junior and senior years. Have fun, don’t stress more than you have to, and believe in yourself. You got this. 👍

This really is great advice, and I am sure it will be effective. My only concern, is some of the "stimulaitng" stuff is to me necessary for an enjoyable life. For example a lot of my friendships are made and kept up through gaming and chatting together online. Also, if I was able to cut myself off from social media entirely, while it would improve my productivity, I would lose touch with memes and other pop culture things so I would not be able to connect with my friends as well.

I have this dilemma where I don't know if drinking coffee counts as a stimulating thing I should cut down on. And not just drinking it but making too, because I like the process and I have it as part of my routine, but I also notice I do it to avoid starting tasks. I think my overall fear is that my life will become too boring. Like maybe it's good because I get more work done but does this mean sacrificing hobbies? I can totally see the benefits, and I understand the problem when mindless scrolling is higher on the stimulation list than getting work done, but what if stuff you're interested in is also higher? It's not as simple as cutting it out completely and now it has to get prioritized. For example imagine the scenario is having a guitar and a book in the room. If you like music, you probably pick the guitar. But eliminating the guitar is not as easy as the phone because it may be your genuine interest and now you're choosing between work and life.

So one day i tried to do that, i kept away all the thing that could distract me (video games, social media etc), in the first day im feeling very bored, because there isnt anything i could do except reading a book or studying. I decide to take both of them, i feel very comfortable reading a book and studying but the next day, the bored really hit me, i lost all of my motivation, i dont want to do anything, i just want to laying down in a bed and i thought its not right. So i back to my old habit and still, i've lost motivation eventhough before i do this i have a great motivation to study etc. The thing that i want to tell you are , we fighting against bored, your inner self. So if you cant cope with it, maybe you will have a same situation like me. So before doing any of that, make sure you already prepare yourself that what you are gonna facing is bored, innerself.

i reccomend adding the efford as an x value, therefore having fun as a y value and effort as x. It adds more details about the activities

Bro, I can literally just sit there doing nothing and my ADHD brain is gonna keep me entertained all day. I cant remember the last time I got really bored since I got this thought train just running in my head wasting my time. I can just talk to myself all day which is what I do for not having anyone else. I know I need to study but my mind is just not in this universe

@@constantine_second8024 honestly advice, but I’m just saying it’s a lot more engaging this way, rather then people just staring at you and speaking solely on facts

I'd rather just go outside and stare into the distance like some stray cat, that's what I find more calming to just reading and looking at a ceiling which isn't bad, but I find going outside way more stimulating
