When it comes to applying beard oil there is a point where it becomes to much. What you are left with is an over oiled beard that will resemble an oil slick. Whatever comes into contact with your beard will become an oil slick as well.
The good news is that you won't damage your beard by applying too much oil. It won't fall off and run away. Your skin and beard can only absorb so much oil before it can no longer do so. Once it reaches that point the oil will just simply sit on the surface and become a slick.
The consequences of having an oil slick on your face is that anything that comes into contact with it will get oil on it. This could be your phone, shirt collar, pillowcases, sheets, etc. The fact that oil can and will stain makes it a problem.
It may take a few times to get the application correct but in case you do apply too much a simple paper towel should do the trick. Don't scrub at your beard but instead just wipe away the excess. Trying to rinse out beard oil with water will be frustrating as the 2 don't mix.

This video might be for beginners. When you first start growing a beard you buy your first beard oil. You get exited thinking it will make your beard grow long from one day to another so you put too much of it. But then it becomes your daily habit till you figure out a bottle can last you more than your first time. Love my beard.

One thing I have learned over the last eight months is that starting out with a little bit is a good way to go. Depending upon the length of the beard, one to three drops to start is good. If you think you can use another drop after applying what you have, then go for it. That way, you have better control over how much you apply. This can also be applied to using beard balm. I will say that I have found it harder to over-apply balm, though. It's a lot like cooking, in a way: you can always add a little more seasoning, but it's hard to take away too much. 'A little goes a long way' are words to live by. And, in the end, mistakes are okay to make if you are just starting out. Growing a beard is a constant learning process, so use every day to learn something new about it and how to take care of it.

I have had an uncut beard since 1972. Lately I decided to make my own beard oil after going without 'forever". A tip I found. Shea butter Oil and Coconut Oil are often listed as great for the beard, but those like myself with stiff and kinky beard hair, brittle are warned that it makes the beard even more brittle and could make the beard hair fall out.

I actually prefer a little extra to stay on there, because it helps a ton in windy or very humid conditions to actually remain there for a longer period of time. I won't ever over apply at night or anything, though, for the reason you stated. It can leave some pretty bad stains in anything that it touches for too long. .

i just got my first set up i bought from Grimfrost, and intentionally over applied the oil the first time, primarily because my heard is big and bushy, i have a full on murder hobo beard that i have been unable to really keep steady without product now, but as i said, i intentionally over applied the first time just to make absolute sure i could get as much coverage on the hair and skin as possible, i also have long hair, so any excess i literally just wiped away onto my head and ponytail.

If you do get oil from food or beard oil on your clothes, rub dawn dish soap into the area, let it sit until it soaks in good, and wash it like you normally would. It removes it completely, but if not, repeat and it will. I had to figure this out after spilling oil on my expensive pants lol

Hey Baron, My beard is shorter than yours is but lately I have been using 9 drops of beard oil as any less and it just feels dry. Even 9 does not seem enough. Beard oil does not seem to spread much in my experience. And I have tried various brands. What do you think?

I got a boar-hair brush recently, and my beard has actually been feeling less dry and more "smooth" lately. Is this common with such brushes? Also, could you make a video that shows how to brush your beard using such a brush? I usually do straight down. Sometimes I do straight down, up, and then down again. I only do it once a day as well, as I recall you said it is very harsh on the hairs.

Yes, brushes make the hairs softer. I personally only brush downwards and I don't see the need to brush upwards. Getting a dry beard may also be because maybe you use normal hair shampoo on the beard? If so, stop doing that and get a natural block of olive oil soap or something similar, as long as it doesn't have the chemicals. And yes don't try to brush more than once a day. You will lose more beard hairs and you don't really gain anything off of brushing it more.

I use coconut oil. Its solid and after warming and applying it solidifies again. And it softens the hairs too. And you smell like candy. Women love it! Need I say more?

i'm having trouble "blossoming". but 3 days ago i randomly had about 10 new hairs on a bald spot (upper side of my chin) that werent there the day before. also the little blonde hairs on my cheeks are starting to come in. i use my own home made beard oil and use a massager to increase bloodflow to my face. i also try to work out (had an incredildibly good day lifting today) and i try to eat properly. overall i think i'm doing all i can do (apart from non natural things which i dont want to do yet)

Ricky I don't typically reply to people online, but this one called to me. I'm guessing you're pretty young.. my best advice to you is to be patient. I turn 30 in 2 months and there are still parts of my beard that I'm not crazy about, but I try embrace what I have and love all that I am. Furthermore, it's great that you are working out and eating regularly - that stuff will only help your beard (and your overall health for years to come!). But this part about "non natural things... yet" - yo bro, that's an avenue you do NOT want to walk. Just embrace the best possible natural self you are, and you will do just fine. Gregory Haddock exactly. i'm only 21 now (will turn 22 in summer) and my guess is that i'll have a decent beard at 25 and a good one at 30. i just get envious of friends who have thick epic beards (damn genetics...). and what i mean by "non natural things... yet" is like maybe implants and some mild (doctor prescribed) supplements or something. but i really don't want to do that anyway, because i know what that stuff can do to your body. so i'll probably just go for implants or letting new follicles grow (technique that will come in about 5-10 years from now) if it's not good by age 30

I apply every morning after a shower. It's really up to you though. I wouldn't do it more than once a day though. But that's just my opinion.

+The Beard Baron I had a beard that was about 4 inches long, I trimmed it down to less than an inch so I can start growing a full face worth, I made some beard oil today ( Rosemary, lime, cedarwood, patchouli, pine needle oils with Avacado oil as a carrier oil). My question is, you said around the 2-4 week mark is a good spot to start applying the oil, is it fine for me to start using the oil right now or should I wait a bit longer? +.mlh When and if at all you decide to use beard oil, is entirely up to you. Some days for example, I feel fine without applying any. Some days I apply twice a day. I usually start using it after 4 weeks++

Sometimes I'm running late and my hair and beard is still a little damp. When I put my shirt on I always worry about staining it. I think I'll try out what you said and wipe it down once or twice. I stained one of my shirts from oil that I put in my hair, and it's impossible to get it out. Thanks for the heads up :)

Hi John, it's great to hear from you! I would recommend that you do not over apply beard oil! If your beard is shorter you may only need 1-2 drops of oil, or if it is about my length then 3-4 drops! Using oil will not completely change the texture of your beard if you have an already coarse beard. But, it will help soften it!

The Beard Baron I've been using homemade beard balm from a friend for a while. I stopped about a month ago because it wasn't helping with beard dryness. So for the last month I've only occasionally shampooed and conditioned, now I'm looking into getting some oil. Hey Johny! Awesome video as always. Is it normal for one to shed hair from their beard after a shower while brushing with a boar bristle brush or comb? I only brush mine dry. When it's wet, the brush tends to pull out more hair. Try using a comb with wide teeth on it for a wet beard. Works great.

I work in landscaping and my beard gets very dry and brittle feeling through out the day (I’m ALWAYS covered in concrete dust and dirt) so I was thinking that if I put a huge amount of oil in my beard, having the excess oil will help the dirt to have something to adhere to rather than just my beard hair which tends to not feel good when dried out. Anyway is that a good idea or do you have a better suggestion?

I've got a pretty thick beard, it took me a few weeks to figure out 4 drops is enough to control the wild hairs. I usually have to apply twice a day but at least I don't have an overly oiled beard. I still haven't figured out beard balm yet, I seem to always over do it even with the smallest amount.

Will my beard straighten out as it gets longer? When I was first growing it in september 14, it was had a curl to it, and wouldnt leave my face till about 3 months. the hairs under my jaw have straightened out a little bit, but my cheeks have not. I used to trim my cheeks to help shape it, but I'm going to let them grow and meet my jaw hairs. Will they eventually straighten a little bit? My head hair is straight, if that helps.

Johnny, i have never used beard oil but my order will be with me soon. What i want to know is, do i not wash this stuff out at nighttime before bed? Even with water only? What about washing my face before bed? Or does the beard oil not come out? What about in the shower the next day? My second concern is - i always turn the shower to a cold setting just before i get out, and shower my face with it. I find my skin looks better after cold water is applied. I would like to know how this will affect both the beard per se and the beard oil?

Anthony Hughes Hey Anthony, beard oil is not washed out as it's a leave in conditioner that is absorbed into your beard and skin. As for cold water you have no worries as it won't hurt your beard. You will want to apply beard oil after you shower for best results.

Question! I'm currently living in Romania and not able to find/purchase beard oil here, so I made my own. I made it about 4 months ago, and I just noticed that my oil might be growing mold? You can make your own if you really wanted to. I have been, and the whole setup cost me only about 50 bucks and I'm pretty much set for several months unless I decide to pass some out to friends and co-workers. Also accounting for errant formulas lol

Argan Oil or Jojoba Oil and if you don't like the smell, add in some essential oils such as nutmeg, cedarwood, grapefruit, juniper, pine, etc.

Coconut oil is bad for 90% curly hairs, which are different than these more straight - the first ones have higher porosity, which don't like saturated fats. You can google curly hairs and coconut oil and you'll probably see some curly girls' blogs, who write about it. I know, the beard hairs are different than these on the head, but still, I think, that oils do the same or similar job for both hairs. I bought coconut oil some time ago just for the skin under my beard and decided to try it on the beard and they behaved badly. I tried to mix it with jojoba and other oils, but every time I used even little amount of coconut oil, hairs didn't like it :/

How do you keep your beard comb and brush clean? Do you dedicate your comb or brush for only oil or balm?

David Skelton I only use my brush for dry brushing and clean my combs with water and paper towel after use.

Wooba Steve Oil or everyday after a shower, or rinse your beard in the sink then oil it.

How do you keep your beard looking so neat and tidy?? Mine only comes maybe an inch/inch and a half down from my jaw line, and it always looks a mess, I have a "beard control" conditioner thing for after brushing but that doesn't seem to do anything, I brush once a day in the morning and wash it usually every other. Do you put something in to keep it like that? Is it just trimming? I'm still growing it so like you said in one of your other videos I haven't trimmed it much as I don't want to stop it growing. Thanks in advance!

as it grows it will get better hang in there dont touch it beard butter will help or a balm depends on the length of your beard wax or no wax hope this helps

im new to oiling i notice my beard looks somwhat.... dull i guess you can say almost dry after a few hours of applying the beard oil. is it possible im over applying and the oils solidifying? or is thay the result of cheap oils? i use GIBS Voodoo prince

Do you have a curly beard? 90% of them are high porosity and can dehydrate very fast. Hairs like this need humectants (aloe, honey, d-panthenol, glycerin, propylene glicol, etc.), which absorb water and then emollients (oils, waxes), which make a coat, making the water unable to escape from hairs. I learnt it, when I decided to grow my hairs on my head and started to read about it. I'm very surprised that beardmen neither speak about it, nor use hydration conditioners... emollients (oils) are not enough to keep the hydration and can make it even worse. And it's hard to bring the balance back to dehydrated thick hairs :( I read on blogs that to do this, I have to use hydration shampoo with gentle detergents, hydration conditioner after shampooing and hydration leave-in spray conditioner in non-shampooing days. And still, some ppl are unable to hydrate thick dry hairs.
