Dreamworks knocked it out of the park again with this one! I loved how simple and profound the message was but the real draw for me was how outrageous so many of the chaotic scenes were. The food Heist was also brilliant. Enjoy :)

The fact that Dreamworks is so family oriented but has so many adult jokes in them makes these movies so hilarious as a parent. I loved this movie as a kid but as an adult… still so much fun

That is what makes it a FAMILY oriented movie, there are jokes for the kids and their parents to enjoy. So many movies today only focus on KID oriented stuff that they lack any jokes above toilet/slapstick humor. It's partly why we have so many parents who'll just put a screen in their kid's faces and leave, how do you expect parents to enjoy something so obnoxious.

For those who don't know, this movie was actually based on a comic strip that was also called "Over the Hedge". The strip's art is seen during the credits of this movie.

Home owner associations are complete nightmares for a lot of people here in America. They’re usually depicted as Karen’s that are always harrass people and over the top. Of course not all of them are like that, but it was cathartic to see this one get her house blown up lol.

In the behind-the-scenes commentary, they were concerned about the bit with Hyper-Hammy - thinking that kids wouldn't understand the bit. Needless to say, they were pleasantly surprised when kids in the test audiences had to explain to their parents how the energy drink made Hammy so hyper that time seemed to stop for him.

This is a great reaction to Over the Hedge! Your observations about the characters and their individual traits really enhanced my enjoyment of the film. You're right, RJ's character arc is a highlight, going from a loner who envied the bear's possessions to someone who understands the value of family and sacrifice. The scene where he sees the bear as simply lonely instead of successful is a turning point in his development. I especially enjoyed your point about how the movie blends heartwarming messages with over-the-top humor. The juxtaposition of a simple message about family with scenes like the exploding rocket of food makes it entertaining for all ages. Your enthusiasm is contagious! I agree that DreamWorks did an excellent job with this movie, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective.

to answer your question posed early in the video: raccoons are opportunistic, omnivorous scavengers. so they eat the leftovers of other animals' kills, they eat wild growing fruit, berries, nuts, etc., and occasionally they'll catch fish, crabs, and other small critters both on land and in the water for themselves. but yeah, thanks to deforestation and urbanization any raccoon that lives near a town or city probably lives primarily off human waste. :/

I don’t think you fully understand the sheer contempt Americans have for the HOA 😂 There are some who say the lady did not get all she deserved hahaha. I live in a community with an HOA and the rules are unreasonable. I can’t clean the gutter over my own roof or trim the tree in my yard without asking the HOA and each of my neighbors for permission. We can only select from three colors to paint our door (white, blue, or red-can you guess why?). And the HOA likes to drive around taking notes on everyone. Once I caught them peering in through my kitchen window! Absolutely bonkers. But anyway, Over the Hedge (along with Open Season) were a staple in my great uncle’s home. These were the only child-friendly DVDs he owned so we watched those every time we went over. Good times

The reason why the female antagonist of the film was mistreated so badly in the film, is because shes the head of a Home Owners Association, and they are generally, and irrefutably, the most useless, and most awful people you can imagine. They are universally despised, they are pretty much the same as a bad Land Lord, but on a town-wide scale, so this movie was basically taking a stab at them.
