I’m curious what you think of practical stunts by Tom cruise in MI or Tom Hardy in Mad max. I really agree that Hollywood has lost the art of practical stunts just curious what you think about movies like that :) I’m also curious your thoughts on directors like Christopher nolan who opt for real set pieces over cgi when possible. Edit: Jesus Jackie is built like a mother heffer!
I saw an interview where Jackie said he didn't like doing movies for Hollywood cause they won't let him do 128 takes on a 2 second shot to get it just right. Chinese cinema let's him do that. Yeah he's an absolute perfectionist and artist
Makes me wish Jackie could make his own studio and makes movies with the quality he wants. Not just make movies, but find and train people with the same perfectionist mentality. Not just actors, but stutmen, camera crew, grips and gaffers, writers, editing, the whole production. Jackie has a very specific style, so it's likely someone with his mentality will have their own specific style that has to propagate throughout the whole production. For example, when a punch is thrown in a Jackie movie, sometimes to emphasize the hit, the edit should show the hit twice. Show the hit in wide, cut to a closer shot where the punch hits again. In Hollywood editing, the hit is never shown. They show all the way up to the hit, and then cut to the reaction. It shows that in order for a vision to be realized, all steps in the production has to be on the same page
This is a really cool idea! I kinda thought it was gonna be giving "Jackie Chan Adventures" the Overanalyzing treatment, and I would be down for that very much, but this is just a fun video.
Love that fan quote; perfectly summarizes a lot of his career & the characters he chose to create/play. "It's not 'Jackie so good,' anyone could do it - it's if you have the patience to do it."
But the thing is, no one has the patience to do it and safety protocols will prevent people from trying so Jackie Chan will remain the king of that style of physical movies for a very long time
Brings to mind a quote from the game Furi. "We are what repeatedly do. Excellency is a habit". Come to think of it, that particular boss thinks the best way to fight an alien cyber-samurai is an oar and copious amounts of training. There's a connection here i think 🤔.
Jackie Chan is probably the greatest stuntman to have ever lived. Just imagine how many smaller injuries (like bruises and dislocations) he suffered through for our enjoyment even without considering the heavy stuff. I can honestly say, that in my eyes at least, he surpassed even Bruce Lee in terms of using martial arts for entertainment purposes.

Bruce lee only dis 4 or 5 movies and basically invented the genre. People like jackie chan and samo hung refined and puahed it much further. Sadly it peaked with them as well.
I hear what you're saying but it's like the MJ and LBJ argument. MJ and Bruce Lee changed the game so people like LBJ and Jackie can not only have inspiration, but can hold the torch and bring it into the next generation in their own way. In no way can we say they 'surpassed' them.
Can't believe you haven't mentioned that the James Sie, who voices Jackie in The Jackie Chan Adventures, is also the voice actor for Cabbage Merchant in Avatar. Great video as always!
I know this video is about Jackie Chan but I also think the kind of real action he pioneered is why Tom Cruise remains so popular despite his everything else. He does his own stunts, and they're kind of nuts. Tom Cruise has Jackie Chan to thank for why Mission Impossible has so much staying Power.
“A broken ankle I hear that’s one of the worst most painful things to break” from experience yes it is. It is the most painful thing I’ve ever had to go through I was drunk as shit came home and didn’t understand how to use crutches yet and like a dumbass I stepped into my house with my broken ankle fell immediately to the floor in writhing pain the fact that Jackie Chann can just continue filming a Hong Kong action film through that is just absolutely insane.
I'm not surprised you like Jackie Chan. Avatar really reminded me of him. One of the big things that makes me like both is how creative they are with martial arts choreography. Whenever people ask me if I like action films, I always think of something like that and want to say "yes", but then I remember they're probably asking if I like cars and guns.
Man.. Now that I think of it, Aang's fighting style is pretty Jackie-like a lot of the times. He improvises a lot and uses his environment to his advantage quite often.
Watching Jackie chan action scenes makes me feel the same way pro wrestling does. Like yeah, its staged, but holy shit there's some incredible athleticism involved that leaves me awed
i really love the fact that this channel is branching into different styles of content. Your overanalyzing Avatar series was outstanding, so i am really happy to see your aproach to making videos evolve and take on different forms.
I’m loving these types of videos, obviously avatar is amazing and I loved your series on it, but you are seriously talented at taking topics and breaking them down in a comprehensive and interesting way. Can’t wait for more videos like this and Bigfoot! Haha 😂
You really did the impossible. Building your entire fanbase from Avatar and switched to other topics once that series was over and we all came with you. Hats off to you bro!!
Seeing this has motivated me to check out the Jackie Chan flicks that have been sitting in my Netflix watch list for far too long. And as a budding actor-director, glad this made me appreciate Jackie Chan in a whole new light ^^
I went on a HUGE Jackie Chan kick a few years ago, and the man has my enduring respect. The level of perfection that man exhibits while also being a genuinely great person is so admirable.
I obviously found you because of Avatar, something I'm extremely passionate about, and I wasn't sure about how I'd like your other content but you're a great story teller and analyzer. I look forward to whatever you put out man. You're so talented.
I always had respect for Jackie Chan himself and his stunts and after watching this it has grown some more (Enjoyed the video btw and have a great day or night)
I grew up with the likes of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee through the influence of my dad, and I couldn't be more grateful for it. Hence I absolutely loved this video! Can't wait to see where you're taking this channel
Thank you for touching on the old tradition of doing your own stunts. This is something that no one ever thinks about in modern movies because you can be suspended with ropes they can edit out. They didn't even have that back in the 90s. You either had a stunt double or less like likely you would do your own stunts, and there was a certain amount of clout you would get back then for doing so. Jackie Chan being the stunt king.
Didn’t know what you would do after Overanalyzing Avatar was finished but you have just kept putting out bangers. Love the style of how you deliver your content. It’s different than everyone else and keeps me hooked and listening. So glad I found this channel a couple months ago. Keep up the great work!
Been loving these videos dude. With your personality and sense of humor you could make videos about anything and people would still watch, myself included. Keep up the great work!
Part of me is like: wow yeah, some of these clips were comedy gold, I need to watch some old Jackie Chan movies. Another part of me is like: yikes, this doesn't seem healthy and I'm kinda cringing thinking about how painful that must have actually been. Maybe I should stick to the cartoons.
Jackie was, and still is, my favorite actor to watch. Kung-fu related or not, he is truly something else. You should do something overanalyzing the movie 'Kung-Fu Hustle' Not sure what injuries happened, if any, but its a favorite of mine, and reminds me of Jackie through the whole film. This whole trying to find where the channel goes after avatar, I'd love to see more martial arts related content, you're fantastic at it man! Thanks for the content!
really glad to see you making content after finishing with avatar. I especially love the subject matter. His initials being JC isn't a coincidence. The man is a god
Statement of fact: Jackie Chan is The singular greatest action actor of all time, not Sylvester Stallone not Arnold Schwarzenegger not Bruce Willis not Bruce Lee not John Wayne or Clint Eastwood but Jackie Chan. Absolute fact. I’ll say that Tom Cruise puts in an incredibly high level of effort as well I might truly be the master of the number two slot but Jackie Chan still exists which precludes the GOAT spot.
I would 100% would watch a series completely new to me as long as I was watching it weekly with you over analyzing it. Or under analyzing. Or really anything, your humor is a perfect match for me
I always looked up to him because he was so good, but just as he says, he’s not good he just keeps going until it is perfect. When I heard him say that I looked up to him even more, because not giving up is one of the most important things to be a successful and interesting person.
This was great! I'd be totally down if you wanted to go through some of Jackie Chan's movies. Or hell even doing a series on Jackie Chan Adventures. That shit is aces.
Jackie Chan is the coolest person ever to direct and star in their own films, nobody will ever be able to do what he has done again. Loved him since I was a kid and the more I learn about him the more I admire and respect this guy.
its good you are diversifying your channel I've been watching you for a bit now and I've watched you grow in confidence from your first episode keep up the interesting videos
I love how you format and talk about stuff in your videos, so if you keep making videos about random topics you’re into I’ll probably watch them all. Keep up the good work my dude!
I'm so into this overanalyzing-type genre you're pioneering! Especially on Jackie Chan here; I knew about the injuries but not to the full extent you analyzed it at.
Some of your best work yet! Keep your videos coming. I don't care what you talk about, if you are passionate about it and want to make a video on it. Im going to want to watch it.
Oh my god I am so glad to see you make a video about Jackie Chan, he's such an incredible mover and and absolutely inspiring person to me and so many of my friends, great stuff
You're currently proving you are not limited to just one type of video. You've got some incredible on screen charisma and sense of momentum, even from your first video you've had the building blocks for a great channel and I hope you stick with branching out into talking about a variety of topics without having to be stuck with one type of video. Fantastic work man!
Is it bad that he makes such good and well made videos and still the patron shout outs are my favourite part , how has this man got the part of the video most people skip and leave to be the best part. 100% would watch a super cut of them all
Your style of video can really just make me watch about any topic, I didnt even think I cared for the genre of movies jackie chan made but now its sorta interesting
Awesome video. The point about action scenes not really sticking with viewers now is spot on. I often zone out during superhero fighting scenes. Jackie Chan's movies have a clear realness to them that the comedy only adds to.
Yesssss, this is why I stayed subscribed, most people now find it hard to find a direction in there channel, you are the avatar, who over analyzes everything
