I don't know if you've seen Lemmino's video on this stuff but I love it because of the level of research and analysis while balancing skepticism and entertaining the possibility.
@42069Zukosame. Actualy that would be a good way to branch out his chanell. He is the avatar of overanylzing so his name would be just a nod to avatar and not that he only does Avatar
One thing to also consider is trying to guess the behavior of aliens when we only have ourselves as reference. Our first guess would be like conquerers or helpers or whatever, but if they have alien origins, they may have completely different concerns or goals, and if they are truly advanced, whose to say that such immortal machine-things may have nothing better to do then just live out as explorer/librarians, going around and studying stuff
Something someone mentioned before stuck with me. Consider the difference in intelligence between us humans and say a tiger. We may want to conserve them and their habitat but we’d never never try to form any higher communication with a tiger or set up fair trade agreements or smth. Any societal matters that have to do with them involve simply preserving their species and their living spaces and are limited to the countries the tigers reside in. It would be ridiculous in our eyes to say tigers have their own countries which they own and should be viewed as equals, they’re essentially under the power and control of whatever country they reside in. Imagine the gap in intelligence and overall power between humans and aliens is the same or even much greater. What’s to say our planet or even solar system isn’t just under the equivalent of a country rule by a species or group of aliens. To them we’d just part of the native fauna just like a tiger is to us. They might not have bad intentions for us but they certainly may not view us as equals and wouldn’t ask to come to Earth just like a country leader would never go up to a tiger and try to translate to it if they were allowed to come to their territory. When people try to communicate to nonhuman animals like cats and dogs we have to use basic commands and body movements to convey simple emotions to them, what if for aliens because they’re intellectual capacity is so many leagues higher they simply naturally function and communicate on a higher level and to “speak” with us they’d have to do the same equivalent of dumbing down of language as we do with a dog just to get the most simple statements across and if they actually tried discussing anything relevant to their societal system, personal politics (and this assuming if they’d even have a social structure vaguely convergent with humans) and sciences our brains simply would be mentally incapable of processing their concepts just like if I tried having a normal conversation to a tiger even if some universal translator existed the tiger simply wouldn’t have the mental capacity to process half the ideas and meanings I, and our species as a whole present and discuss in everyday conversations let alone actual things related to government, science and politics.
Yeah it's truly a mystery. They could be like the Krogan from Mass Effect, bloodthirsty brutish warlords. Or they could be giga Chad hippies that just want to learn more about the universe.
@@jasonberryman1035 Very poignant. It also leads to some more troubling thoughts. Look how we treat the lesser species of our planet. We do what we please, we mass breed them to kill them for consumption, we cage them gawk at them, we keep them as pets, we kill them for recreation. I'm not bringing this up to be preachy or condemnatory but it leads to some genuine concerns for what could happen when an ultra advanced species discovers us.
An underrated and throw away joke that I appreciated was him saying the 40's was almost 50 years ago. That's how you can tell he's an older millennial. It still feels like the year 2000 to us.
All these sightings rely heavily on video footage, so it's also important to think about how cameras might affect (or even create) the sightings. Corridor Crew have done some really cool videos on this, where they show how a camera might create these images, and in some cases even they can't explain the videos. Worth checking out
One interesting explanation for the greys that I heard once, was that they are memories of human faces from before our pattern recognition and eyesight were fully developed.
@@Validole I guess? But not all depictions of them are small. Their small size may instead come from their association with mind over matter. They have weak bodies to compensate for their big brain.
Duuuude you are just straight up good at this-- it is now clear that the quality of OA wasn't just from the richness of the source show but the talent of the creator. Please make more videos about more things this is great
Oh, this was a good one! Now I'm curious if sometime in the future there will be a "Overanalyzing Ghosts" to go along with Bigfoot and Aliens. Just might be interesting to hear your thoughts even if personally I'm not a believer.
Something that you kinda touched on is the fact that communicating would take forever because radio waves travel at the speed of light. Same thing for telescopes. One of the closest habitable planets, Kepler-B, is 640 light years away. This means we are seeing what the planet looked like 640 years ago, and vice versa. If there's intelligent life on Kelper-B, and they have insanely high resolution telescopes, they wouldn't see lights on our planet at night, so they might think there's nothing here.
if we are alone, there is no competition for resources, and we have to preserve life, both of which encourage us to keep the spark of life safe and to spread it across the universe, right?
@@garlicamvs6235 ...Not being alone is undeniably more terrifying. I mean being the sole intelligence in the cosmos is terrifying from an epistemological-philosophical existential dread way but at the minimum that would mean there's no competition. You really don't see the terror in being surrounded by hyper-advanced civilizations?
It's REALLY hard to gauge given the non-existent context but I would place my money on an extraterrestrial civilization performing a preemptive strike on ours to remove a future competitor before we have the chance to cause them any problems down the line@@ltsMotion
When I was about 6 or 7, I actually lived in Phoenix Arizona, and was able to see the lights over Phoenix (or what I could of it) from my backyard. Which would spark a lifelong fascination with UFOs. UFO documentaries have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and like any impressionable kid, at times I was much less critical than I should have been. Its hard for me to watch UFO documentaries these days without triggering the cringe reflex, despite the fact that I'm still fascinated by the idea. Point being, I wish there were more UFO content like THIS, and less content like Steven Greer rambling about how you can psychically summon UFOs like they're yugioh cards.
There’s lots of content on the version of aliens presented by science like he mentioned at the start of the video. “Fermi paradox” is a great starting search term. It’s all reputable science too, since none of it relies on anecdotal evidence
Sure, let's make demands of a guy who just sorta started a youtube channel because he wanted to scream into the void about how cool Avatar was and it turned out the void screamed back. Keep in mind that while you're getting this for free, it's still a person doing work and living a life. Maybe ask instead of demanding.
6:05 You know what would be funny? If what this guy was saying turned out to be true, but the alien he was talking to turned out to be a fellow crackpot from across the stars who just so happens to also believe in psychics.
I love the notion that there's just a similar species which has crackpot occultists and theories on rituals and psychics, and they and Alistair Crowley connected from across the galaxy, forever ridiculed as loonies until our two civilizations meet and discuss fringe historical figures.
Glad to see that you didn't stop making content after finishing up all of Avatar. I loved the series you did, but I'm pleasantly surprised to find I enjoy these random videos you make even more. Keep it the good work, homie, and I hope those copyrighted videos make it onto YT soon.
as much as I like his newer videos on random phenomena, will he ever review the legend of korra? the show isnt a perfect successor of the original, but it does have its own charm.
@@thatguystandingbehindyou0_0 Which honestly seems perfectly reasonable. There's plenty of stuff on the internet already either trashing it completely or making insane leaps in logic to explain why it's actually an amazing show.
I just love the idea of these god-like creatures chilling and observing us. Like: "Hey Jerry, bet they use a nuke this time" "Nah, it's not been long enough since the last disaster. Give it 50 years I reckon"
This was actually a super entertaining video. Your meme-y irreverent snark style is still absolutely hilarious and I love it. XD I also lost it at "HP don'taskaboutthecat Lovecraft", oh my elder gods. MAN it's wild he thought it was ok to name the cat that.
@@fearedjames This is true, it's a well known fact he was a massive fucking bigot. Even so, to name his cat THAT takes an incredible amount of both bigotry AND idiocy. Like, fuck, what kind of idiot makes it THAT obvious they're an asshole and puts it in a book forever? XD
@@fearedjames Also tbf he wasn't the one to name his cat that. It was given to him from a friend and it already had the name. Still messed up but still. I remember hearing he changed his views and regretted his racism and xenophobia towards the end of his life, but I could be wrong about that
He was also a massive technophobe. He literally wrote a story about how air conditioners could create abominations of people who kept their rooms cold enough to become immortal and went stark raving mad when the machine started to fail. One of his most famous stories was literally just him not understanding how inferred light works.
I really love this and the bigfoot video. They're really great topics to overanalyze, and I think you've approached both of them with a good mix of open-mindedness and skepticism. Great stuff
You really should rebrand and do more of these paranormal/ufo/cryptid/unexplained episodes. The rapid-fire narration is a nice switch. I really like this and your bigfoot episode. Nice work.
I wasn't expecting something non-avatar related to grab me on your channel, now I realize that it's more than just Avatar that keeps me coming back. You are entertaining and fun to listen to. Thanks for all the content.
These Videos are actually really interesting and well made. Well placed jokes, intriguing philosophical questions. Really appreciate what you are doing, keep up the good work
i think the ending comment is a pretty good line. Sure, there may not be aliens from Zeta, or bizzare lizard shape shifters. But there sometimes weird shit in the sky that people can't explain.
Good stuff! I love the little text commentaries accompanying the graphics. "Oh shit it works" for the quantum entanglement line cracked me up. Pretty insightful stuff too, a nice refreshing take on the topic!
@@christianngallego4150 it's a proposed solution to the fermi paradox that states that the reason we can't find any signs of alien life is because they hide their signatures due to the immense first strike advantage granted by relativistic weaponry. Essentially, any civilization that doesn't hide gets genocided by relativistic missiles or similar weapons before they can even respond since such weapons arrive moments after the light that announces them. The book "the killing star" has that premise, and earth is destroyed within a few paragraphs near the beginning of the story
Good video! You cover all the points I tend to when talking about ETs, but in MUCH more detail! I'll have to point others to this video next time the topic comes up.
I love your content and will keep watching whatever you put out! I love learning about random things so these vids about things other than avatar are always an eye catcher when i see it in my recommended feed!
I worked with Dr. Marcel, son of Major Marcel from the infamous debris picture. Before the internet, by the way, so it wasn't perhaps as popularized but flat-out asked him those reported "alien symbols". He got out a pen and reproduced them for me, very open about it. Lost that irreplaceable paper, of course but boiled down to his description of his father geniunely believing it must be an alien craft.
I started watching you because I liked ATLA, and you did fantastic ATLA analysis. I continue watching you because I really like your editing style, your humor, and you just make fantastic videos. I really like these vids where you're talking about urban legends. Keep it up man, you're doing great.
Oh, the Phoenix Lights are one that I have a personal connection to, and I remember when it happened. My dad used to have an aviation business at Falcon Field in Mesa (FFZ) . The v-shaped lights were a formation team practicing for an air show at Falcon Field later in the week. I think it was a biplane team or some similar historic flight unit. I don't know why this doesn't come up anywhere in the discourse online, but I distinctly remember my dad coming in with the newspaper and having a laugh about how the air show rehearsal had spooked the media. I wish I could find some info online to back this up, but any of the comments my dad gave the media don't seem to have showed up online, and I'm not having much luck finding the FFZ event schedule from 1997. But here's one random, unsourced internet guy to tell you that the Lights were never anything at all.
While this is a neat comment and a believable piece of the puzzle, it doesn't account for the fact that the event lasted 3 hours over a far greater area than anything flying out of Falcon Field would have been able to cover (at least as far as show planes). In particular, I'm left wondering why so many sightings were to the north of Phoenix when Falcon Field (to any reader not from Phoenix) is far to the southeast. Now I'm the last one that's going to claim it was aliens, but this doesn't really do justice to the full picture. Great contribution though!
5:20 Nah, if you look towards actually continued reported UFO sightings the same shapes have remained. Disc, Deltas, Orbs, Cigars/Tic-Tacs. Those are the most commonly sighted since the phenomenon has been recorded and it hasn't really strayed from those handful of crafts.
Dude I loved this video, I honestly wouldn't mind you doing other stuff too! This was actually super fun and informative to watch! I'd watch you overanalyze grass growing.
Not gonna lie I thought you'd always be "the avatar guy" who I only stay subbed to out of respect but you really make pretty much any topic interesting and are now one of my favorite "essay-like" youtubers. Keep it up man
14:00 During one of the Russian missions, the cosmonauts also reported seeing UFOs. And over time they were noticing more and more of them. Eventually, they figured out that those UFOs, floating around the space stations, were in fact, bags of poop, ejected from their toilet into space
I'm doing research on Folklore, FairyTales and stuff like Cryptids and Myths. So These things kind of feel close to that in my eyes. That's why I wanna know what are some of the biggest alien Stories/myths floating around that I should look into if I want to catch those that really left a mark on human culture.
Dude. Great! Many things I knew already but the density of information per second. Damn! Perfect summary of this topic. I love how you do this!! Thanks!
Y'know. I can't belive Im saying this, But I think I get more existed for these types of videos more than your avatar ones. your just overall a great creator, good job man!
@15:40, I'm reasonably familiar with these types of videos from targeting cameras. FLIR and GIMBAL are both almost certainly just infrared glare. "GO FAST" is considerably more interesting, because it has range information, so you can do some math to figure out its speed relative to the jet taking the video. From what I can tell, it's not actually going that fast, only in the 1-200mph range. It looks like it's going much faster because the targeting camera has insane zoom on it, and the parallax from the camera plane and the object moving in near opposite directions is giving the illusion of it being way faster than it actually is. I did a whole bunch of math to ballpark the speed and came up with ~130 miles per hour. And then I thought to convert the relative velocity (190vc on the right of the tracked object) from feet per second to miles per hour and... surprise. 129.545 mph. It doesn't look like a Cessna... but it's going the right speed to be one.
You kill it when it comes to being an everyday person that happpened to look to into the topic like "hey this info seems cools as hell ima talk about it" please continue just looking and expressing opinins about stuff i love the content and i love that i can telll you find intrest in it
I’m sending this to everyone because frighteningly. This is what my brain sounds like all the time. It’s like my brain doesn’t have any punctuation or stops her breath nor to you. This amazing thank you. Also, I think my 80 HD meds were off already today.
The biggest problem with ufo sightings is that military pilots with automatic cameras keep seeing videos of low velocity objects like birds that look fast because the plane they are on is moving fast, it's not easy to keep track of how the automatic camera rotates
yeah if you track a balloon at 4km altitude with a camera in a plane at 6km the parallax would make the background relative to the ballon move at twice your planes air speed. Given military planes can do mach 2 easily it would make the baloon appear to travel at mach 4.
And the biggest problem with you comment is that there wasn't a single period. It was just a paragraph long sentence. There wasn't even a period at the end. Is that key missing from your computer's keyboard?
@@ADRIAAN1007 can do mach 2, but don't. That burns up their fuel at an insane rate. Like, out of gas in 15 minutes or less. For normal cruise, they do MUCH less than that.
I think the Aleister Crowley story has led some to theorize that at least alien encounters are actually encounters with demons. It certainly would explain the strange physical properties of these sightings.
I am slowly coming around the idea that Aliens exist SOMEWHERE. But this weeks “This American Life” episode explains well to me why UFOs don’t make sense to me
One of the basic assumptions about astronomy is the 'copernican principle', basically that our position in the universe isnt special. If life doesnt exist somewhere in the universe, if the earth is somehow unique, then that flies in the face of a great amount of our established science. It would be more surprising for there not to be aliens out there somewhere than the opposite.
Have you tried overanalyzing glitches in the matrix? There are some incredible stories of people who have stepped through time, cats stuck in a loop, and even meeting there double. I'd like to see your thoughts on some of these
Just looked through your catalog of content I'm not really a big fan of all the cartoon stuff but I'm still here for whatever you post from here on out I'm down with an open mind to overanalyze the fuck out of things
I recommend you look at Answers With Joe's video on the UAPs. Most of the military videos can be discounted as camera artefacts or tricks of perspective. Once he elucidates how those work (like, literally, how the camera systems that shot the footage work), it's hard to see anything else. It does beg the question of why the military is treating them so seriously, but then I live by the adage "never ascribe to conspiracy that which can be adequately explained by stupidity". It's an excellent limiter on the wilder flights of fancy that grip the world these days. That said, I'm healthily sceptical on both sides: I don't believe every piece of evidence just because I want evidence of aliens, but I also don't discount compelling evidence because I've decided it can't possibly be true. I want it to be true, but I want the evidence that proves it to be above reproach. I myself have seen strange things in the sky, and I have witnessed paranormal phenomena (which were later adequately explained by the frankly awesome phenomenon of "sleep hypnagogia" - the intrusion of dream images into waking, real-world perception.)
I like your way of critical thinking... Every person is confronted with the question whether or not there are other forms of life out there, either by media or just by being a regular person 😅 The waging and believing in some or other aspects of it is a fun mind teaser 😆 I'm considering a Tattoo of Drake's equation on my left thigh... 🤔 I mean it's a ~really~ interesting topic, personally 🤣
I enjoy the Overanalyzing videos! I wouldn't want a Korra vid series tho. Atla's videos were very positive, very pleasant even while taking jabs at bits. Korra would be mostly jabs. I feel like taking that one apart would come off as just mean, as it has so much less going for it than the original. Keep up the great work!
About Greys; my personal conspiracy theory on them is that human civilization went spacefaring and settled an at-the-time-habitable planet mars, before the Younger Dryas Cataclysm, which happened in sync with or perhaps because of a war between the humans of earth and mars, scouring the surface of mars with Thermonuclear Fire, and when the victors saw what they had done... the majority exiled themselves to the stars, leaving earth a cradle for civilization to dawn anew unaware of the horrors of the past. Perhaps they even left earth to the survivors of the marsborn humans, as pennance. And so they took their things with them and left earth, upon spacecraft potentially hundreds of thousands of years more advanced than our little rockets, depending on when in the history of humanity their civilization developed. Their bodies slowly adapted to space. Heads enlargening with blood, torsos shrinking as the need for full-body musculatue decreased drastically, the lack of sunlight turning their skin pale and then gray, as what is left of a humanity unwilling to return home explores into the stars.
