Great info. I lost my hair 2 weeks after I started chemo for st. 3c endometrial cancer. I am 82 so age and cancer have been a challenge.I never had good hair so I thought losing it wouldn't bother me but it does. Between being bald and all my wrinkles I look so old...wait a minute, I am old😁. Love seeing your doogie. 16, wow...we just lost our almost 18 yr. Old mini poodle in Dec. Remy was 3 weeks shy of 18. This came while dealing with my new dx. of cancer. We now have a 1yr. ole mini poodle mix who we were blest to find at a shelter. She had just been brought to the shelter. We call her Rosie...she is very active and is a joy. Our Remy, who died, saw to it that we are fulfilled by having another fur baby.😁🐶❤

Marina you were very direct but gentle and this was a wonderful video-thank you for sharing. My sister is going thorough this. I dont believe hair loss its just vanity. Its primal too. You do not want to appear vulnerable or weak and you dont want pity. Pity is the worst for lowering endorphins that contribute to your over all health and wellbeing.

Hi, thank you! I hope some of this helps your sister. Yes, losing the hair has all kinds of emotions tied to it. Once I got past the fear of losing it though, I actually felt very empowered to truly come into myself. That can take time for a lot of people. But I do believe we project an energy with hair or without. Thanks again for the comment!

I totally understand the feeling of vanity although I have never been prior to the worst haircut in the world I ever received when prepping myself for the hair loss, it made me feel vulnerable, self-conscious and I just wanted to hide, and disappear. So, I just did the buzz yesterday down to a 1.5 guard and it feels so much better and looks 10 times better than the horrible haircut. Thank you for posting on this and I have shared your channel with other friends that have family and friends going through this adventure along with us.

I started chemotherapy 4 months ago, and your tips about haircuts helped me to adjust to the new journey I was beginning. I also have TNBC and had complications to immunotherapy and taxane treatments, which have been discontinued for me. The Carboplatin is going fairly well, and I have 4 more rounds to go. I stay encouraged throughout this journey but am unsure about my options if there's another diagnosis. Just like you ❤️ I'll keep pushing forward 💪🏾 ✨️ making it through. Hi Marina! Thanks for your informative videos! I just finished my chemo regimen (last taxol) on Wednesday!! Felt so good to ring that bell!! Living in Florida too hot for wigs!! But I did get one for my daughter's wedding in September in Michigan. I got it before my hair fell out so the color is really close to what I had. Hoping to have some hair regrowth in a few months. Amazing tips, Marina! I lost some of my hair (I'd say 50%), but not all because I did the scalp cooling--it was patchy, but it's coming back in after a month post chemo. My eyebrows thinned and I kept all of my lashes.

I also did the scalp cooling and it worked quite well. I kept about 60 % of my hair. It was definitely expensive but was something that I needed. This was my second diagnosis with breast cancer. The first time was 23 years ago when I was 32. I was glad to have the option of scalp cooling this second time around. Having my double mastectomy on Friday.

My hair is coming back fairly quickly, but it makes me laugh. It doesn't look like "my" hair. I've gone from being a fading redhead to a patchwork quilt of grey and silver and brown and blond! And it is incredibly curly. I look like a Chia pet! LOL! But I'll take it. 😊 By the way, the one thing that surprised me the most that I hadn't been warned about, was that both losing your hair and having it grow back can be painful. Not severe pain, but tender. Once it was shaved off, it felt much better.

One year done. Mammo clear. Start losing my hair even before chemo and I've never really had good eyebrows. Hair growing back I just spike it all up. Peach fuzz in the back more on the top. And still no eyebrows they're very faint and light just like they we're before. I did lose a lot of weight. More than I wanted to lose.

The hair on my head is growing back nicely, I'm currently 18 months post (TCHP - Taxol/Carboplatin/Herceptin/Perjeta) chemo and my hair is almost shoulder length. My eyebrows fell out a second time after they started growing back and still haven't came back in. I've pretty much given up on them ever coming back now. I don't know whether it was a just a delayed thing with the Taxol or if it was the Kadcyla infusions I had for a year after that. Kadcyla doesn't typically cause that kind of hair loss, but it does have a chemotherapy element to it. It was just odd how they came 3/4th of the way back then all fell out again the first year and there's only a few random (less than 10) hairs there now. I had dark full eyebrows before, sometimes I stencil on the brows if I'm feeling insecure about them - though I don't do that everyday.
@MarinaBlackford
@MarinaBlackford 11 месяцев назад
Hi! That’s so strange with the eyebrows. Maybe you can try some brow serum to help them grow. Check out the grande brow serum: www.amazon.com/dp/B082WZJ69R/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_1QHAT2V30K1KXD2HXQ0C?linkCode=ml2&tag=marinablackfo-20

Thanks for all the tips! I'm 1 year out from chemo for lymphoma and I have a head of messy hair that needs to be tamed, but I have no idea what to do with it! I cut it a few months ago, just a trim from the bottom without touching the shorter top growth, and now I'm afraid to cut it because I want to grow it out and I feel like a cut would be a step backwards. Any thoughts on that? Any suggestions for a style at this point? It's curly in the back and straight/wavy on top, too, which makes it even harder to know what to do!
@lillianbarker4292
@lillianbarker4292 10 месяцев назад
I suggest treating yourself to a good short haircut with style. Then it will all grow longer at the same time. I’m four weeks out of chemo and just have fuzz on my head. It seems like it will take forever till I don’t have to wear a head wrap or wig. ❤
@MarinaBlackford
@MarinaBlackford 10 месяцев назад
It’s so awkward at stages to grow out! I cut mine often at the bottom to even it out. Hard to do when you’re growing it out but then it looked more like a style. Do what’s best for you. Otherwise, hats. 😉

Do I need to shave my hair? Most of mine fell out after two weeks on strong chemo drugs for diffuse large b-cell lymphoma, but there are still some baby-fine strands of hair that either never fell out or have grown back, as I have chemo one day every three weeks. I have just left the remaining hair alone, except for cutting it short.

I actually don’t mind not having hair. I live in Texas and it’s very hot here. I didn’t get a wig because they all looked horrible on me. I’ve just been doing the chemo hats and I’m fine with that. I was surprised that not all of my hair came out. I never had it shaved. I’m into my 2nd week of Taxol. Should I go see a barber now, or wait until I get through with all my chemo?

If your hair starts to come out in clumps, it may be time to shave it. I also couldn’t do wigs in Arizona. Too hot! I went with the wrap, hat or embrace the bald look. I hope your treatment goes well.

Hi! So you are cancer free now? Since I’m not a doctor, I’m not gonna give you specifics on how to detox. I would focus on small things every day. Can you replace something unhealthy with something healthy? And I think it’s important to visualize your outcome. Channeling the stress into visualizing a cancer-free life and meditating on that. Our mind is very powerful. Do your best and let the rest go.

Hi everyone! Recently my mom was given the news about having breast cancer.. The doctors are saying either stage 2-3. Now understandable, my mom has been down in the dumps about this. Shes been focusing on the negatives about everything. Shes very scared and doesn't think that she can beat this.. Part of this is maybe her age (62) and another part is having this already vision of it being terrible due to some of her shows having cancer storylines. I her words: "I'm going to be stuck in bed" and "I'm going to be barfing my brains out". I keep telling her she needs to focus on the present. We don't know how this going to affect her but no matter what I will be there helping through it. I have started a meal prep that includes a recipe that can help with nausea. Please leave any suggestions that could possibly help. I'm planning to put together a care package of basic essentials to combat side effects of chemotherapy to help prepare and give some sense of control.

Hi, I’m really sorry to hear about your mom. Please try to continue to encourage her to be positive, the mind is a powerful thing. To help my nausea I buy ginger 🫚root from my fruit market, chop up a few pieces and boil them. I make a ginger tea. I add organic honey and lemon. This tea helps me every time. My doctor prescribed me nausea medication but I’ve never taken them (which he’s aware of) I’m not big on taking pills.

Hi Jellyfish, just reading this and I wanted to say I hope your Mom is doing ok. Her Doctor will of course prescribe meds for her nausea. My only tip would be, if one med doesnt work that well or does not agree with your mom tell your doctor right away. They have a lot of options. The first one I had was not doing the trick and I suffered for a couple of days before I called the nurseline and had them changed. What a difference! She is blessed to have you!

@@suewilliams2244 hey I'm happy to report that my mom has been doing pretty good. From just 2months of treatments.. The tumor went from a size of a little clementine to half the size of a finger tip.. In terms of side effects, surprisingly minimum. Neuropathy is slowly creeping it's way in though which I'm alittle nervous about. We got cold therapy and compression socks. However what I'm more concerned about is taxol. My mom will be starting that on Oct 13.its only 4 times but it's stronger and just thinking about how the side effects will probably get worse, it worries me and she's definitely scared. Needless to say, all chemo treatments will stop on Dec 1.
