One morning, cardiologist Monica Aggarwal, MD, found herself on the floor and unable to move. Her joints had grown so inflamed and stiff that she felt nearly paralyzed. Soon after, a doctor diagnosed her with rheumatoid arthritis and said that she needed to get used to the idea of living in pain.
On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Aggarwal who shares her inspirational journey back to health with the help of a plant-based diet.

My daughter was diagnosed with RA at age 4. She spent her childhood taking a cocktail of drugs daily. At about age 21 she began eating an organic, WFPB diet, also staying away from soy based products. She is now 29 and has been drug free for 6-7 years. She lives a full life including daily 5k runs. If she does get a sore spot she can pinpoint exactly what she has eaten to create the soreness. I am so proud of and happy for her. Sadly, her rheumatologist who she no longer sees, has no interest in learning about her drug free, pain free, active lifestyle. I am elated to see that slowly but surely, a community of medical doctors is coming together to get the word out. MANY THANKS TO ALL THESE DOCS!!!

@@bharatvarsha7 Sure, it started with pain in my knees,stiff jaw (I thought my wisdom teeth was about to erupt but that wasn't the case )occasionally and finger swell up from 2020 and I thought it was due to uric acid so I stopped taking pickles and lentils. It was all gone and 5months back I woke up with pain in my left shoulder and I couldn't move it at all and it was gone in 2-3days. Then, the very next week the pain reoccured in 3rd week the pain shifted to right shoulder.And 10days later I couldn't walk due to pain in my legs. I couldn't visit doctor due to lockdown. After 2months of that,I started having pain in my sole and sometimes in my wrist so bad that I thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome. Then few weeks later I felt like my feets were swollen and it felt like walking on pieces of glass along with stiff knee joints with severe pain that I couldn't flex or extend my knees, the pain gradually shifted in other areas like ankle,knee,phalanges,shoulder,neck,groin . I went to doctor and my ESR was 28 and anti CCP >500 according to doctor you don't need to have diet restrictions. I'm on medication from last 2weeks. Medicine really didn't help but if you're in pain tab nucoxia 90mg is helpful in easing pain. I stopped eating eggs,meat,fried foods,apples,banana,fermented food,biscuit,noodles and gluten product as I noticed those food flared up inflammation and swelling. My pain is almost gone now. Still trying to figure out foods that I can eat. Are you having the same problem?

@bharatvarsha7 3 года назад
@@anulama5300 thanks Anu for replying. My ESR, CCP is still showing non-reactive, but i have this occasional pain in knee every 3-4days in early morning but goes away within a 5min after i rub.This is happening since 2month. So i am worried. I thought apples, bananas are good. Also, i started eating only vegetables and lots of fruits since then with soups. I also ordered Moringa Leaves, i heard stories this leaf powder alone can keep all pain and inflammation away as long as you take one teaspoon everyday. Please order it right away. There is recent research activities going on Moringa leaves both in India and West and all showed that it removes inflammation as long as you keep eating it. I read few of those research journals and the result are encouraging.

So funny that people always say, "I was eating too much dairy..." I was eating ZERO dairy when I was stricken with RA. My problem is peanut butter and tomato soup, believe it or not. I have since started consuming more dairy in the form of kefir, yogurt and whole cream for my coffee. I now shun all polyunsaturated vegetable oils, and I am doing so much better. It's really nice to be able to use a can opener, clip my nails, write with a pen and hold my dog's leash again. Not to mention turn a doorknob....

My routine each day is 1. WALKING 30 mins or longer each day. Initially it was painful and i did grounding . 2. JUICING regimen fresh vegetables or fruits with lemon juice and honey, soy protein and moringa powder and downed with curcumin. 3. BREAKFAST : whole grain bread with tuna fish spread and alfalfa sprouts, or crunchy peanut butter with banana topping and caffeine less coffee. And off to work. 4. In between drink lemon juice again or have a bit of oats with soy milk. 5. Lunch: Rice , lots of vegetable/salads and a little piece of chicken/fish and drink warm water with my probiotics and folic acid., Vegetable soup 6.POWER nap 7.Tea time: will be crackers , biscuits no sugar and green tea or any other tea. In between i drink lots of warm water to hydrate myself 8. Dinner: Bread again with vegetable and whatever left over from lunch. Spend time with my children. 9.Night cap DRINK WILL BE COLOSTRUM MILK WITH ALFALFA TABLETS . Once in a while , i indulge myself. like once a month. AFTER 4 MONTHS, my psoriasis is less, no more joint pains except for the fingers which strength is coming back again and able to work and do household chores again. My voice is back and the redness in eyes are less. I can drive now. What happened to me was that i became more prayerful, learnt to appreciate life, blamed less, started thinking positive that i can live a normal life again. I can do squats again and a bit of yoga as well. I take B12 supplements as IT really helps with stress and nerves. never mind what the medical report says, Jesus is my Healer. My story is long but i Hope it helps someone especially on the diet, and make sure you go to toilet everyday. Don't forget to bless your food and pray daily and read the Bible. God Bless You.

I have been recently diagnosed with RA. In my case, there is a genetic component since my mother had it too. It primarily affects my hands and feet. The rheumatologist explained all the different medications and after I did a bit of research, I did not want to go that route. I've been vegan for several years already, so I decided to explore what I could do without medication. I cut out oils, most sugars, processed vegan food, and only drink water or tea. I take a few supplements: B-12 once a week, omega 3/6, vitamin D, and an ACV/turmeric/ginger combo once a day. I know there is no cure, but I feel like I'm in a place where I can manage my symptoms. I really appreciate Dr. Aggarwal for sharing her incredible story. Such a strong and inspiring woman.

I can relate to her story and how it all started so much .. this was very emotional and well done you For not giving up! I have a rheumatologist that is the same : doesn’t take in consideration anything I say about lifestyle and diet , doesn’t care that arthritis almost disappears when I eat differently and keep stress free as well as exercising, tells me that I will be on meds for life and I just have to accept it! The last Dr that has spoken to me like this was the one that stated that me having over 70% of vitiligo in my body will stay that way or get worse when I was a kid! Plot twist: my melanin started shooting out in every patch on my body and within a year of that talk I had since had only 5-10% of my body with vitiligo ! So with all the respect to those physicians don’t take their word as the last word ! You know yourself and you body! You need to experiment with it and care for it ; most of them will never do because you are just another patient to them! Being strict on diet, doing IF , loosing some weight and keeping active and stress free has made my Rheumatoid arthritis inflammation and aches go from and 8 to a 2/3!! I see it as a phase of life that Will soon be history for me , God is good and your body is your temple !

I hope she is still better but don't listen to random people who don't have any personal experience or stop medication yourself . Keep her on doctor advised medication ,keep trying alternative therapy & find out good diet for her. Diet is one of the major factor which make RA worse . Blood type diet & herbal plants helps a lot in reducing dependence on steroids . Don't do something weird and reach a position of no return. Reversing some damages is next to impossible & regret entire life .

10-12 years of extensive education, then 3 kids without breaks, lots of work related to kids (while it seems like there was not much help given from the husband or allowed from her maybe - just a judgment from what I heard of her daily schedule in the morning), and the constant high level of stress for years might have caused the autoimmune disease. Great, that she reversed it, started a clinic, and lived to write a book that can help lots of people!

Wow!! Wow!! I love this thank you, I was just scrolling through and saw it, and because I'm a RA patient I had to watch, because I feel so alone in this , I don't know anyone who has it where I could share experiences , so I'm always looking for videos or reads to help me to learn and understand more of what's happening to me, I suffered for years not knowing what was happening to me and doctors wasn't helping , they even told when they got fed that it's in my head and recommend I see a psychiatrist,I was diagnose when my son was about 2yrs old , he's 11 now and I'm on the methotrexate, meloxicam, caltrate & folic ,my stomach is a mess now and is like my whole system is failing, so much to say but... Really glad I saw this and coming from a doc is a plus, taking notes for my next appointment.🙏

I started Intermittent Fasting and eating a plant based diet back 15th 2021 of February and it has changed my life. Losing weight was a side effect ,my health has improved and I didn't even have RA. The reason I'm even responding is my sweetheart does have RA and I'm trying to get him to change his eating habits. His nutritional health is my aim and I want him to be able to enjoy life and not think this is how it's going to be for the rest of his life ,I know he can improve his health with a better diet. His doctors do what most other doctors have done by saying take these medications and prepare to live this way until.......... I refuse to believe this because I know better ,and I know that there are nutritional factors that need to be address in his diet , I just need to get him to see and understand that these medications are only a temporary bandaid and not a way to heal the body.

Thank you Dr. Monica Aggarwal for your story. I work with a lot of mums in a very high pressure and very corporate team and your phenomenal drive and personal experience has expanded my respect for "professional motherhood" even more than ever before. The modern working world can be so much better for mums (and parents generally tbh). Beyond the more obvious and direct lack of workplace support for mums there is another less obvious bias. That is that the partners of male employees in particular are grossly disrespected, ignored and insulted whenever male employees are denied any form of parental support or consideration. This simply assumes its the partners' place to provide all childcare and forces too much on mums only - when in fact dads could AND SHOULD be able to help more and "be there" more for their partner and their family.

It depends on the amount of time and/or money each spouse can contribute to raising the kids and/or earning money. Sometimes it makes more sense if one person is home raising the kids, and the other is making the money. If that the case, then the person making the money is not going to have too much time to help in the raising of the kids, especially they work a lot of hours.

My daughter was diagnosed with RA at age 4. She spent her childhood on a cocktail of drugs. At about age 21 she began eating organic, WFPB as well as staying away from any soy based product. She is now 29 and has been drug free for about 6-7 years. She lives a full life including daily 5K runs. If she does get a sore spot, she can pinpoint what food has created the soreness. I’m really proud of and happy for her. She lives pain and drug free! Sadly, her rheumatologist has no interest in her “drug free”, active, lifestyle.

I have reached the the age of 65, and because of several moves, I have found doctors reluctant to rely on previous medical history. So I have pushed on, without the medical degree, but full of hope and a desire to raise my children near their remaining grandmother. Except for lots of pain, my health is finally improving slowly, although I have lived near my Mom for 15 without a definitive diagnosis. It’s mainly an assortment of immune-related issues, just lacking an umbrella. But when you have hope, and I also have strong faith, then there is always a reason to will out! I was so fareful as the flares of the muscles and joints are terrible. M body would feel so hot and like glass cutting inside every organ...Sigh.
