I care about books be made as movies. I think these adaptations have considered a deconstruction of the source material. Not a butchered one. I wish Earthsea had taken the big screen treatment. Even if it isn't perfect. I don't mind if it goes against the source material. Let the producers, and directors do their own things. And believe with what all they. Do their own best. Deconstructing the source material is something I care about.
Alien Covenant was a HUGE disappointment. They built up Shaw...then killed her off and she wasn't in the film. People wanted to see what happened when she met the engineers...and we didn't even get the engineers. That was AWFUL.
I know I'm in the minority but I liked Prometheus. It was an interesting story. Covenant though fell between two stools because it had to continue from that, and yet it wanted to try and be more familiar Alien stuff at the same time. So it didn't work.
If I had nickel for every time a film in the Alien franchise set up certain characters to have major supporting roles in the following film only to unceremoniously kill them offscreen, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it’s happened twice.
@@paultapner2769no, you’re not. I liked Prometheus, I thought it had a lot of interesting concepts that could’ve worked but (like most series today) the sequel ruined the potential
My opinion is that Disney has made and will re-make their classics just to extend copyright protection, they don't appear to have any original thoughts.
MOST of DISNEY's 💩 doesn't need to be remade for copyright as theyre either original or copied from things that are already public domain like Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid, LION KING is Hamlet
They could just rerelease them back in theaters. I prefer watching movies on a big screen. All these live action remake flops are old and I hope they stop. I will never watch another after Beauty and the Beast. That was terrible.
It was not what people expected. No one really knew how to take it. I thought it was a great movie but I didn't have any real preconceptions going into it.
The problems with Ant-man: -Bad CGI -Give a 15 or so year old girl more moral power than the adults around her, even when she's completely wrong. -NO LUIS! WHY?! He's the best character in the previous movies!
The appeal of Ant-man is the contrast between giant and miniature vs normal sized. You don't get that same dynamic in this movie. What was stopping Ant-man and Cassie from growing out of the quantum realm the same way he did in the first film? The limit was never explained.
I LOVE the book. However, none of the trailers inspired any confidence that they had made a good adaptation-even with all the star power attached. From all I have heard, I’m glad I skipped it.
I adored that book growing up! I caught the trailer in the previews and for the life of me, I could not figure out what it was until they said the title! It was unrecognizable to me even from the trailer.
Disney’s Wish was a disappointment. It became a standard animation kids film with crappy pop songs as musical numbers rather then a typically expected Disney film, A USUALLY TRADITIONAL DISNEY ANIMATED FILM. And it was meant to be for Disney’s centenary year and they lie on the changes to the final product. WHAT HAPPENED?
One of my all-time favorite Arnold movies. Way ahead of its time. I think audiences and critics just had different expectations about what it was *supposed* to be, and weren't prepared for what it actually was.
I dunno. It didn’t seem all that to me. Then again I don’t think a massive amount of E.T. or Close Encounters.. either. I’d probably go with Predator if I was to pick a favourite Schwarzenegger film. Not really sure the hype about LAH was. There was an Are you afraid of the dark? episode which had a similar plot contrivance that came out about the same time and the Canadian teenagers managed to get across the same point in a half hour episode about as well.
Spider-Man 3, here's why: Sandman's whole "I have a daughter, so it's okay for me to steal money", and Peter just let him keep stealing without finding any other solution to his financial problem. Venom should have killed Peter at the church. Why bother making MJ the hostage over and over again? Why did the police kept Marko a secret from Peter and May, why? If they didn't wanna upset those two, why tell them now, to upset them? Lack of showing Black Suit Spidey being aggresive to criminals. Why did Bernard kept the truth about Norman? Harry just swore on his father's grave to kill somebody, goodness
I can assure you that all these movies put together don't match both the hype and then massive disapointment of the 1976 King Kong movie. No internet didn't matter, every magazine, every newspaper, every talk show, every media outlet we had at the time was hyping this movie. Even before Star Wars made special effects a big deal a year later we were all excited about what modern special effects could do for King Kong. And they built a 40 foot robot of Kong!! I personally couldn't wait to see what the fight between Kong and the T-rex would look like. Instead what did we get? A guy in a monkey suit fighting a rubber snake. When a 12 year old boy hates your monster movie you failed big time.
I'm sorry guys, Last Action Hero is classic. It's hands down one of my favorite Arnold movies. It was ahead of its time, and audiences and critics were so focused on what they thought it was *supposed* to be that they couldn't enjoy it for what it was. I've loved it since the first time I saw it and continue to enjoy it to this day.
Still waiting for someone who is a fan of the book and has a basic understanding of the source material to give us a more faithful adaptation. I’m sure there’s plenty of fans out there that would be willing to undertake the assignment.
@@hunterolaughlinI have the graphic novel and it seems to be a decent adaptation. It’s my favorite book and I would love to do an animated adaptation but I can’t draw at all! 😭
Nope. George Lucas was Star Wars. If Kennedy had stuck to Lucas’s original script, I would agree with you. But the sequel trilogy was the nail in the coffin for Star Wars. The franchise is a corpse at this point
@@jtgoat9810 Except that a lot of SW fans called Lucas a hack and accused him of "raping your childhoods" with the prequels. You broke his heart. He sold the SW rights to Disney because he was getting death threats from fans and wanted to protect his family from a toxic fan base. Many of you also cheered when Lucas, apparently was "never any good anyway" and "was not the reason for Star Wars success" was sold to Disney. They also said that Kathleen Kennedy was the true visionary and the one behind the throne. So SW fans actually were excited that Disney and Kathleen Kennedy were taking over. So you fans caused all this and it has blown up in your faces. Be careful what you ask for.
Just like game of thrones… As good as the new one may be, the first one destroyed the momentum for any sequels . If you say suicide squad 2 was good then I’ll check it out .
@@blackleague212 I would say at least watch it for yourself once. Even if you end up hating it, at least you've seen it and judged it on it's own merits yourself, right?!🤔 *EVERYONE* 💩 on the last TMNT movie BUT I loved it because it had Bebop, Rocksteady & Krang & I saw it with my family
I grew up loving the book A Wrinkle in Time. I remember being in the theater to see some other movie and the the trailer for the WiT movie came on. I sat there wondering what on earth this horrible thing was. It was utterly unrecognizable to me until they actually stated the name of the movie.
You should have included the abominable 2014 'Annie' remake. The studio did everything they could to hype up that movie. Its trailer aired before pretty much every movie that year, there were posters and cardboard standups that played music from it in the theaters, a big deal was made in stores about the soundtrack, and it even got a float in the freaking Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade that year! It was all to cover up what a truly horrible movie it turned out to be.
My 6th grade class read a wrinkle in time the same time it was released in theatres. We were incredibly disappointed with the movie, especially compared with the book
I had big expectations for a wrinkle in time, seeing that Oprah, who did The Color Purple, which is a great movie, thought that Wrinkle would be great too, but disappointing.
Just because Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was overhyped doesn’t mean that the movie wasn’t that bad. Despite a disappointing box office, fans are always fickle. I enjoyed the movie and one of the most underrated movies of last year. But I agree with some fans that the MCU’s content was way too much thanks to Chapek’s ego that hurt the MCU’s diminishing returns. I hope that 2025 could be a rebuilding phase for Marvel and if Deadpool and Wolverine a success (if they don’t reach a billion dollars), then Marvel is back on top
The problem with casting the right person for the role is that the people who pays to see the movie doesn't care about the right casting and the ones who care doesn't even go to the movie theater
Last Action Hero was bad because it did not have awareness of the times, i bet it was made by guys who drove convertible Coverts, wore their shits unbuttoned to the pubes, put on a ridiculous amount of cologne and drove around with Van Halen blasting out of the car because they still thought it was "cool", in the grunge era.
For me "Halloween ends". This was to be the final battle after 40+ years between Laurie and Myers. Jamie plugged it every day. Promised an epic finalie. This was her last Halloween and she was going out with a bang. This is what we have been waiting for they promised. The last 2 where 🔥 this was gonna be even better!!! What we got was...well we see Micheal defeated by a guy we just met this movie who is there the whole movie except for the 10 minute epic fight we where promised. And while "Halloween kills" was much better the tagline was "evil dies tonight" ummm no he didn't.
Shame they failed. Last Action Hero is fantastic. Phantom Menace too. Qui-Gon is perfect Jedi Master. We could all use teacher and friend like him. Shame new Lion King failed. There's no Be Prepared too. 1994 is pure epic too. Maybe they shouldn't have made shot by shot remake. Great video
Phantom Menace was great too me, it had to “start” somewhere. The politics seemed slow to me when I was 14, now in my 30s I more than appreciate it because I see the long game that Palpatine played. Jar Jar…y’all need to get over it. Star Wars will always have something silly in it somewhere (Ewoks, Chewy, etc..) it happens. The fight scenes were Iconic.
This was more a list of "movies that didn't meet box office expectations" than overhyped movies. Both "Quantumania" and "Last Action Hero" are excellent movies on rewatch. I see that "Mortal Engines" is currently on Netflix here in the US, and I look forward to watching it this weekend.
The Lone Ranger controversy is pathetic given how it’s haters poorly researched it before pretending to be offended for attention. Given Johnny Depp *is* Native American not only has he said it multiple times but he clearly has indigenous features. I’m not saying I watched the movie or that his character wasn’t a walking stereotype but to say he faked being a native for the roll is embarrassing
He's as much native american as anyone floating around this thread. His real last name is Dembrowski. Regardless, as awesome as he is, his portrayal was too comedic--along the lines of RDJr in Tropic Thunder, yet meant to be serious?
Madeline L'Engle's novels are a true example of media are exceedingly difficult to put to film. I would only trust Studio Ghibli to do it, and even then I'm not sure they could pull it off.
Live action remake of The Lion King? No, get it right. It was the 2nd remake Disney made of Kimba the White Lion. Personally waiting for an Atlantis: The Lost Empire remake. So that I can remind people that all they are doing is ripping off another anime, again. Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
Last Action Hero was not appreciated for its time, but today is considered an absolute cult classic ahead of its time. You’re very wrong on that movie, Looper.
Did they make a previous "a wrinkle in time"adaptation ? I remember the scene where all the boys and girls play with the ball. I also remember the scene was about "being normal"or something like that.
I wonder if there's an example of a movie that went through several script rewrites and different directors, and ended up being a huge success, one of the classics remembered to this day.
Quantumania was fun and better than most things in theaters and on television. People need to stop putting their frustration with their crappy lives out on movies.
Phantom Menace seemed really dumb when they tried to blow up Qi Gong's ship when it was INSIDE the hangar bay of the bad guy's larger ship. IDK, but any star ship blowing up would have the power of a big atomic bomb.
Surprised to see Last Action Hero. Looper did not do its homework. It is a cult classic and was just ahead of its time. They actually know what they’re doing and it is a parody of action movies. Arnold starring on it makes it too good of a parody.
Last action hero is one of my favorite movies. I completely disagree about it being on this list. Also, I liked 2016 suicide squad too and dont understand the hate that it gets.
When will they learn? I was under the impression that directors, producers, writers, and other people involved in making films, knew which movies to make. Hollyweird has been giving a lot of turkeys lately. Nothing recently has drawn me to the cineplex. I think the last time I went was in the mid-2000s. Prequels, sequels, superhero movies, and live-action remakes should not be made. There have been about 5 good films released recently that meet my criteria. I watch films from the 20s to the present and the earlier films are still better. I have been watching classic Hollywood films and foreign films that satisfy the film fan in me.
Suicide Squad was simply dreadful. The best thing about The Phantom Menace was Darth Maul. Thankfully the prequels got better with Revenge of the Sith being my favorite. I enjoyed the Lion King remake, don’t understand all the hate.
