My dad worked for Mc Donnell Douglas back in 1956 - 1967 then moved on . What a great time . Lived on 9212 Seneca Ln Overland Mo . Behind the old New Overland school where the post office is now . We moved away and that is a sad day for me . I lost my best friend Joie that lived on the corner of Seneca Ln and Goodale . If I remember right the address is 9126 or 9128 . I believe it was 28 . Once we moved I did not see him ever I cant even remember his last name . I was only 8 or 9 years old . I have always kept him in my memory to this vary day . We used to play a lot at his house or at the school . Fun times back then . His dad bought a 1956 0r 57 T-Bird back in the day . I sure do miss those time and I hatted were we moved too . Now I am back close to my home town in Troy IL and now I feel a hell of a lot better now . It's just been to long .
That would be great! Went to Kratz then st. Williams catholic. Woodson Terrace. Lived at 9404 Corregidor. Amazing I am able to remember! I now live in Roanoke Virginia. I loved viewing your video. Brings back the best memories ever. Happy travels! Karin
I realize this comment was from 5 yrs. ago.....but perhaps you may see my comment. I also lived in Woodson Terrace (briefly). I went to St. Mary's on Long Rd. in 1955 & then to the first year St. Williams was opened in '56. We moved to Overland in Oct. 1956. My street was close to yours. 9238 Bataan. ( 'New side' East of Woodson ) Still live in St. Louis!
That's some great content! I grew up in Bel-Ridge in the 70s and early 80s. Moved away in '83. I was just back there in late July for my mother's passing, but THIS is how I remember it all.
I had my first married home at 2918 N Hanley! Some little guy was bike riding and had to go so he pooped in our garage. He bolted out the front as I walked up. 😫😂🤢
I grew up right up the way from you around the same time period. I could walk to the white castles on natural bridge any time I wanted. My Pop still lived there until he passed in 2018.
Grew up in Overland, lived on Baltimore Ave..Went to Marion Elementary and Hoech Middle. Went home 2 years ago and drove around it was so disheartening to see the way it looks now. Remember when the lodge would do fish fry's on certain days?
I lived 3 blocks up from Baltimore on Poe Ave. I went to Marion for about 2 hrs. I had gone to Buder from '56-'59, but Buder couldn't accommodate all the previous year students and my family lived at the demarcation line between Buder & Marion. After 2 hrs. the Marion Principal told my twin sister & I that Buder had "found" space for us! 😂 Went to Hoech as well. ("Hake"😅)
It's shocking just how many of those buildings in and around over land are still there...open or not. It's been so long that I forgot that O'Malley's used to be Ma-jik Market...and I live right down the street from it.
Fun video, even if it is 10 yrs old! As a youngster I lived in Woodson Terrace & Overland from '55-'73. Literally decades later I discovered that the library on the Rk. Rd. was originally an indoor movie theater. Even as a kid I thought the interior had an odd layout for a library. ( Including the movie screen in the "back room" where we watched movies on Saturdays.) Great times!
I had jobs at Burger King and Famous Barr Soup-Con (best French onion soup ever) in the 70's in Northwest Plaza. I remember when it was outdoors, and the Christmas lights lighting was a big deal. Also, did I mess the Air Way drive inn...we saw a lot of movies there and it had the roller coaster.
Sounds like you were there right when I was. My girlfriends and I used to LOVE that French Onion Soup at Famous. The soup and a soda were $1.05, tax included. Yummmm on a cold winter's day!
I remember the 1973 Record Center Fire that went on for Days. We lived up the street from the Overland Dairy Store on Woodson Road and bought our Zenith TV's from Brockmans in Downtown Overland.
Wow! Thanks for that, so much I forgot. I grew up in Berkeley. Spent a lot of time in Overland, St Ann Creve Couer but left the states in 1983. So many things from TV you reminded me of too!
Wow, YOUR STORE was right around the corner from where my sister lived on Driver Ave. I lived on Ashby in the early 50's and Sims in the early 60"s. Lived across the street from Marion School. Thanks for all these memories. Oh, and I remember asking for the "Special Sauce" to go on our french fries at Hamburger Heaven.
Remember when Ferguson, Florissant, Spanish Lakes was nice in the early 90s. I remember the drive in by the Riverview circle. I used to work at DePaul hospital for 8 years. I used the catch the 34 rock road bus to the job from north Stl & always wanted this cheap townhouse apartment off the rock road & 1-170. If I move back to St Louis I thinking about moving to Overland, Sant Ann or St John. Used to go to school with most of them.. A lot of people think St Louis is all bad no some of these little cities don't want that drama. Miss my cheap home city
I'm seeing a school called Iveland? Never heard of that one. I'm talking about Kratz Elem School. Still called Kratz. I attended kindergarten there. Lived on Corregidor and then went to St Williams Catholic. Love this area. Great memories. Anyhow in one of your clips looks like my aunt's store.
Yea, your right. Sorry I forgot Kratz was the one closer to the Airport. I got some new gear so keep checkin I plan a Farewll video to the city this summer... I will be traveling after that (Actually use my cameras to shoot the sites and wonders the country has to share.) I PROMISE TO PUT KRATZ and if you want to share the adresses of your former home(s) I would be glad to video and Stills of the neighborhood... Thank you for your comments!
I can confirm Iveland. I went to 6th grade there in '63. Lived on Maddox. '64, '65, and '66 I lived on Ashby and went to Holman across from NW Plaza. Watched them build NW Plaza and St. Ann Bank. Sneaked into Airway and Four Screen. Played pinball machines and hung out at Red Pin under Kroger.
At 9:56 you are showing one of my old neighborhood's. There's an Applebee's right there on the corner of St. Charles Rock Rd. and Orlando Ave. At the time I lived there, there was no Applebee's the whole street was houses. That corner had a bar fronting the rock rd. Right behind the bar was a 2 story white house that fronted Orlando Are . That's where I lived. They tore most of the houses and the bar down. Later on I went to classes for Data Entry Programming in the evenings at Ritenour, back in the early 80's. I gotta go cause I find myself crying over this.
Well did you happen to know the family called the Wilson they were right up there and for about two years I managed what used to be the Clark station directly across the street small world
@@HaveRVWillTravel-DDR1954 I didn't know any of the Neighbors. When my father bought the house I was only allowed to be home on weekends. Unfortunately I was turned over to the juvenile court at the age of 9. So during the weekdays I was locked up.
We moved here 4 years ago,so I don't have these memories, wish I did. I'm wondering about at the 2:09 mark, you say the corner of niblic and highland where the trouble started. Can you explain please?
Incredible compilation of what a great city STL was to grow up in. I think the management of the past forty years are all criminals. I can comment on each photo. That tall Katz tower scared me as a little girl. So many great places to eat, so many little homes where large families were raised with one bathroom! Somehow we got by. I especially loved Northwest Plaza before the idiots closed it in. Sad end to a great mall.
There used to be a Union Jack jeans Store at the mall. Pretty sure it was a Union Jack. Used to spend hours at the mall. And I used to eat at least once a day at Steak'N'Shake up on the corner. Matter of fact when I got old enough I got a job at that particular Steak'N'Shake. They fired me because they said that 'my thinking process was a little bit spacey'. Funny shit, huh?? Now it's funny, it wasn't back then. Of course the N.L.R.B. (National Labor Relations board), agreed with me and I won my suit against them. Anyway, I've been wondering if they still cruise Creve Coure (?) Park??? Does anybody know??
Was there a Famous-Barr in Overland? I remember one in Ferguson at the Northland shopping center. The last time I was in St. Louis was during the time of the Michael Brown shooting. In fact my friend and I were driving up West Florissant to check out my old neighborhood in Ferguson (Wedge Dr) and traffic was being redirected since the shooting had just happened.
had dance recitals on the Admiral. nothing like Kroger and IGA meat. Phil Mizzerany used to crack me up when I was little he'd shake so hard in the commercials. Good memories
Wilson School, across the strt was a comm'l bakery Dolly Madison...? Also there was a drive in that had majorette thst threw a baton in the air all in neon.
Nice video with memories but what really stands out is at :40 about the Admiral where it says Cruise and be gay the Admiral way lol. Gay use to mean being happy lol.
Advertising Overland…and shows the Admiral, TV studio’s downtown and other things having zero to do with overland. While missing actual center of Overland which still has some nearly hundred years old buildings. Oops.
I was NOT advertising Overland... I was sharing the places I remembered and further, I might add the center of your memories may vastly vary from mine... And that is to be respected. I am not a professional but again it was my memories not yours
Ah...yes! The GEM theater as it was know long before it became St. Johns Cinema! As a kid back then admission was .30......hey!, as an aside, what happened to the cent symbol of modern keyboards???😂
I went to New Overland School back in the early 60's We lived on Seneca Lane back to I believe the south end of the field . A little sidewalk back in the corner that went to that street . We all moved from there back in 1968. Moved to Southern IL . The worst place to be when your a kid . Bunch of stupid kids down that way .
I just was watching RU-vid and clicked on this recommended video in overland and at my surprise they paused on the picture of the house I just moved into and was sitting in. Unreal odds! On driver
