First, great video! You can survive more than 2 months without food ! People eat to much these days, one meal a day is enough. Important is to skip sugar and carbs. Try 2 or 3 days without eating, the best way to stay healthy..... greetings from the Netherlands

I haven’t seen any reports showing you can survive 60 days without food. Do you have a reliable reference? And thanks for the kind words on the video. We’re having a lot of fun sharing what we’ve learned with the community. ~ Eric

Hi Pat, it would be a REALLY short video. But it is a GREAT question. So I'll try and answer it here for you. We have a Webasto gasoline powered heater that draws directly from our vehicle's main fuel tank. It uses about 1/10th of a gallon per hour. The heater is capable of heating the interior of our camper to around 70 degrees when it is around freezing outside. The heater has a dial thermostat and is managed electronically by our RedVision system from REDARC. Hope that answers your questions. If you have any follow ups, please let me know. Happy to answer them. Thank you for being part of our online community and we'd gladly hang out someday. Will you be at Overland Expo West this year? ~ Eric

Propane is actually a bi-product of oil & gas production so for me it is an inexpensive fuel readily available anywhere. I have seen people nearly blow themselves up with a white gas stove. KISS - keep it simple st*p#d - at first. Good coaching folks!
@HourlessLife
@HourlessLife 2 года назад
Hi Kelly, not sure how much you know about us. Your comment has me a little confused. On one hand if I'm reading it right, you are suggesting we are giving bad advice and being kind of rude about it at the same time. On the other hand, perhaps I'm reading it wrong, if I am I apologize. We're a family friendly channel. But a little on us...we've been traveling full-time owning no home or property for 8 years. So camping is kind of in our blood. We literally live outdoors. Also, I personally spent 20 years serving the United States on Active Duty in the United States Coast Guard, so you can imagne the level of training that I've had there. I've also been HazMat transport certified, trained in firefighting, and I've worked for both the King County Sheriff's office and Texas DPS. So to say that I may have a little bit of an idea on what we're talking about when it comes to cooking fuels and which to choose, I feel fairly qualified. For what it is worth, we've used propane extensively and agree that it is a great fuel source. If we were sticking to North America, it would be our fuel of choice. However we're kind of driving around the world right now. While propane is available globally, each country has its own equivalent of OSHA. Which means that while the propane is available in most countries around the world, the fittings that are used to refill canisters are different. So essentially you'd be looking to buy and carry around a metric ton of adapters if you could even find them in order to use propane as your fuel source. Therefore it makes propane an impractical fuel source for global overlanding. Meanwhile a multi-fuel stove that can handle both white gas and unleaded fuel is a much wiser choice for the type of journey we are on. It is globally available and requires no specific fitting to function. If your argument is that you've seen people "nearly" blow themselves up with white gas, I'd counter that with I've "actually" seen people blow themselves up with propane, and assisted in the rescue efforts in treating their burns and in some cases recovery operations picking up their severed body parts. So I don't really understand your position that propane is a better choice. All flammable liquids are incredibly dangerous and appropriate training should be gone through and caution exercised at all times when handling any fuels. So with that, my suggestion for anyone staying in North America, go with propane it is a great choice. For anyone braving to leave their home country and travel the world, go with a multi-fuel stove. Thanks for watching and being part of our community. I hope I was reading your comment wrong, that you weren't being snarky, and that my answer made sense and was respectful to you. ~ Eric

There are lots of myths about hydration. Under normal conditions you should only drink when thirsty. For strenuous athletics and hot temps you should obviously drink more. More people get sick from over hydration than dehydration.
@HourlessLife
@HourlessLife 3 года назад
DJ good point about overhydration. Not sure if it is more common than dehydration however. Regardless it is still a very dangerous condition that should be avoided. Actually many times it is people involved in strenuous activities and athletics that report overhydration issues. They drink too much either before or after and dilute the salt in their body which causes the main issue with overhydration. But as a general rule, if your body functions properly (ie no kidney failure, heart problems, liver issues etc.) then it is much harder to overhydrate than it is to become dehydrated. I've treated a LOT of people for dehydration in my service in the USCG, and while I'm not disagreeing with your concern, I would say that for the average person the consumption of water is primary for survival. ~ Eric

My husband wants to know how you stabilize the rig so every time someone moves, it doesn’t wake everyone else up.
@HourlessLife
@HourlessLife 3 года назад
Honestly DAUNTLESS doesn’t move around that much and none of us have ever been woken up from someone moving. We can feel it a little when we are awake, but when we are asleep we don’t feel it at all. Also we sleep with the alarm set and DAUNTLESS doesn’t move around enough in the middle of the night to set it off. We don’t really do anything to stabilize it. Hope that helps. ~ Eric

Thanks for your content. Curious if you have a dedicated mount for your Lifesaver, or if you just tuck it away somewhere without a specific Jerry Can mount.
@HourlessLife
@HourlessLife 2 года назад
Hi Christy, we thought about mounting it and decided against it. Our goal was to keep as much "stuff" off the outside of DAUNTLESS as possible for this global journey. Multiple reasons for that. We don't want to offer a temptation for theft, less wear and tear on the items, easier to access and actually use, etc. So we just put it in the back of the Alu-Cab Canopy Camper and take it out when we get to camp. We may wish we had mounted it someday, but that day hasn't come yet. Thanks for joining our journey! ~ Eric

What do you guys do if its really hot outside? Love the channel!
@HourlessLife
@HourlessLife 3 года назад
So mostly we live outside and only sleep and drive in the rig. We use our awning for shade and we have three portable rechargeable fans that we carry onboard to circulate air if we are in a really hot climate and going to sleep. But we do our best to chase weather and that really helps! Thanks for the kind words on the channel. ~ Eric

@HourlessLife 3 года назад
Hey SnoRnR Overland, thanks tor taking the time to watch the video and to scrutinize it as well. You are 100% correct. The Rule of 3's is 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter in a harsh environment, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. We are never above correction, and I don't know what I was thinking when I said 3 months without shelter in the original cut. Brittany and I recorded this video so quickly I think I was just in the moment. I should have taken more time to proof my work. You also caused me to learn something when it comes to RU-vid video editing. I removed (edited) the section of the video where I erroneously made that statement. It was between minute 9:01 and 9:12 of the original video. It should be properly rendered now. Thank you again for being part of our community and keeping me on my toes. This RU-vid thing is hard! Appreciate you. ~ Eric
