Ainz himself is basically completely neutral. But Demiurge and Albedo are pure evil and he follows their plans a lot because they are extremely intelligent. But Ainz did set up a bunch of chests full of treasures right outside of the tomb. That was supposed to be their last chance to take that money and run. Basically, Ainz didn't want them to come inside. But since they chose to not just take the treasures he left outside and go, they were forced to suffer the consequences. The main reason that this whole plan was put into place was as justification for forcing The Empire to come to the offering table. Ainz is ready to basically go public and announce Nazarick to the world as a new political power.

Funny thing is that in the web novel Arche lived and was turned into Shalltears vampiric "toy". Later she would be given more freedom and Ainz would learn of her sisters and save them and the three would live in Nazarick together. The author actually put up a poll for fans to decide on whether Arche would live or die and majority chose die. Also Ainz gave the workers every opportunity to leave before the traps started. He tried talking them out of it when he asked why they were going there but knew they were motivated by greed so words would do anything. He then gave them more then enough money even split among all of them. In fact if Arche thought for just a second she could have taken enough of it to save her sisters but she too got greedy and wanted more. He even put those low level skeletons at the entrance to make it seem like it was a low level area and they found the main treasure and have them leave. Once they started going further into the tomb Ainz was done giving them chances, they sealed their own fate.

in the light novel she dies and her parents sales the two sisters, where they then die from exhaustion. but hey she should have said something when momon asked why are yall trying to pillage this tomb... and lets face it if ainz was low level they would without a doubt kill him like they did floor 1 skeletons onsight. so i cant really blame ainz

Regarding Ainz's character, Something that the anime fails to address that is in the Light Novel is that Ainz was already an emotionally detached individual before being sent to this world. The player that would become Ainz came from a distopian version of our world where homeless people lying dead or dying in the sidewalk was an every day occurrence and basic freedoms were virtually nonexistent. He did not care about seeing people die when he was human and being turned into an emotionless undead only strengthened Ainz's indifference to the suffering of others.

Yup, and to address the cruelty he showed afterwards, imagine the little flame of humanity (memories of his friends and the small hope might be in the new world because of the lie) Ainz had given that he was now undead and his emotions are being suppressed, immediately being spat on the moment he figured out they were lying.

Something that has to be noted, and is not always apparent, or at least, people keep forgetting it is that Ainz is not human, he is not the same person he was when he played the game. He is, literally undead, besides emotion supression, everything that his character had is now him. This includes his complete and utter uncaring attitude towards life that he isnt directly involved with (Either the creations of himself or his friends). This is why he can be friendly and even funny, confused around his subordinates while being so merciless to anyone else. I think its also a problem with the show that seasons 1 and 2 started with making Ainz seem like the "good guy", he never was the good guy. Its just that his actions in season 1-2 coincided with being seen as "good". He joins the adventurers to learn about the world, he saves a village to learn about the world. He can do good, but at the end of the day, morality is irrelevant to him. All he cares is the result. So Ainz is a character that can save 100 puppies one second just because one of his subordinates asked him to, and the other second he can massacre a village just for an experiment. All he cares about is result. But yeah, starting with Season 3, the story makes sure to emphasize, Ainz is not a good person, he is the villain of the story. At the same time, the show does not try to paint him as entirely illogically or silly evil. I guess thats why i like this show, because its so good at portraying evil thats, well, logical and effective for the most part as opposed to "lul, im going to be evil for random things".

The tragedy of Foresight is how supportive they were on Arche paying the debts asap. In the cut content in the beginning of the arc, a debt collector came in their usual meeting place and kept looking for Arche as her parents keep charging all debts to her. Others had to kick the debt collector out from harrassing. The debts keep getting worse. The entire team was sus of the mission and wanna back out and Arche told them they dont have to do this mission just because of the debts. They took the gamble to save Arche from suffering and now they have to suffer in Nazarick while Arche is free of debt in death.

Lots of people seem to not have gotten that Ainz is not a hero. In all accounts and all angles, he doesn't care about anything in that new world other than the residents of Nazarick and those who support it. If they don't do anything to Nazarick, Ainz won't do anything in turn

I mean yes and no, he constantly lets Demiurge and Albedo do plans that are horrific to people who frankly didn't do anything to deserve it. Like the ten thousand humans they took when Demiurge was Jabladaboth, or baiting these workers who are desperate for gold for various reasons into attack Nazarick so they can force the Empire's hand. So just, "Not doing anything to Nazarick" has a pretty big asterisk 😂

If they were frank and honest right after being teleported, declining to fight and requesting to leave after finding out the tomb had intelligent creatures in it... they probably wouldn't have died. At worst, gotten the 8 fingers treatment.

there was a seal of property they where well aware it belonged to someone it wasnt an empty unexplored tomb. they are theives and jivnic knew it belonged to ainz specifically

I don't follow the notion that Ainz's character has suddenly changed here. Even in the game, his role was essentially running a player-controlled raid dungeon. He is not a "good" guy in the standard sense and never has been. Momon is a persona that has done "good" but is really there to gain influence and learn about the politics, relationships, and culture of the world. He allows his subordinates to treat humans as livestock, keep slaves, and slaughter their "enemies" mercilessly. Let's not forget the slaughter and subsequent subjugation of an entire race of creatures who did absolutely nothing wrong in the beginning of season 2. This season just continues all of these trends. The only thing that has changed is our perspective on his actions. We see the direct impact on the humans: the destruction of families, the cruelty of his subordinates, and loss of innocence. We now understand that Ainz is really experimenting to sate his own curiousity, find his friends, and find the limits of the world.

Manga Only Notes - Spoiler if they ever make a Season 5 or 6? Good News - After Erya Uzruth was killed (Arms cut off and Bashed in the head by Hamsuke), Aiz said the elves weren't guilty because they didn't willing enter. They now serve the 6th Floor Guardians, Aura and Mare. Bad News - Arche Eeb Rile Furt (the girl eaten by Shaltear), her little sisters Ureirika and Kuuderika were both sold into slavery by their parents to pay off their family's debts. There, the two eventually died from overwork. (Canon by Author)

Many people mentioning light novel and good and evil ainz but simply if someone enters you're home without you're permission what do you do, he says this simply by comparing them to Margot's in his food do you let them live, well he gives them an answer by asking before they went in "so you are going into the tomb" (do you see that no trespassing sign and you just chose to ignore it.

The new world treats Ainz and co as the villains, but they are monsters. Why do people expect then to be compasionate to humans? That like us being compassionate to chickens or pork. We gonna eat then, even better when theyre fresh.

Ainz gave all of them 2 chances. First was his line of questioning as Momon(he might have spared some of them if he found their reasons agreeable) and second was the treasure near the entrance. Also think of this whole situation in Ainz's pov. He gave them 2 chances, and yet they ignored both. Their greed pushed them forward with no care for the fact that they're desecrating a tomb. Yes as adventurers it's normal for them to do these types of stuff but in Ainz's eyes, they're desecrating his home and so are deserving of death, nothing more. Nothing matters in this world other than Nazarick and it's inhabitants to Ainz. He is perfectly fine with the whole world burning down as long as what he finds precious is safe and thriving. If he had a human avatar his human morals might have momentarily stopped him but as an undead with a karma of -500(Extreme Evil), it's a miracle that he isn't actively and maliciously spreading death to the world.

It's a bit of a continuation of the themes from earlier with the lizardmen and the Yaldabaoth situation, where Ainz doesn't really know people's circumstances and is simply acting in his best interests or with the plans of Demiurge or Albedo, while as the viewer we are shown the full consequences of his actions. He isn't that different from the other rulers around him in how ruthless and uncaring he can be, he simply has more power.

he gave her a chance as momon, she said nothing so for him all of them only went there for money. which is what makes overlord interesting because if you stop and see the perspective of a character for the most part its not evil, demiurge is kinda logical scientist so his "farm" (to humans) is evil but demiurge isnt a human so in the same way we take rats and animals/bugs testing hybrids and hides, skin, or fur..... to him its kinda the same thing, with species, and our intelligence isnt really all that high to him or albedo. ainz is viewed as their god because he's of the 41 beings that literally created them/ gave them purpose to exist....

Other people in the comments have note that Ainz isn't acting out much differently than before, but another factor to consider as well is that over the course of these seasons we're observing a "becoming the mask" situation. When he first arrived, he was Momonga/Ainz, but still very much a human getting his feet in an unusual situation. Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of all are his own followers, who view him as a god and a law unto himself, but also who are more than capable of overwhelming him if they chose. He didn't want them turning on him even if they regard him with such devotion, and this world has presented him ample opportunity to grow into the role they expect. He nudges thing his own way, perhaps even tempering some of their more dangerous plans (as in the case of Demiurge's actions), but they expect him to be the power they've known. The more he's done this, the more he's gotten used to it, and the more he's fitting his role as himself as much as what they expect. He's not the man he was who played the game but taken on this hybrid of his character (Momonga) and himself, even if neither are fully correct. The mask he's worn in the role of Ainz is what he's become. Granted, I have not read the LNs myself, so there is plenty more at work I don't know in detail, but just from the anime that has been my impression, and something I really like about the whole plot arc of the series.

I never considered Ainz a “hero” everything he does is either for himself or the residents of Nasreick. Sure there are times when he is the hero but it’s always with a selfish reason behind it to benefit him and naserick.

Yeah, because of what I heard happened to the sisters in the LN, I dropped the show for a while, until I was able to process it. What also got me is that, I heard the author put up a poll on whether Archne and her sisters survived, and there was a huge support for them to survive, the actually won the poll, but the author decided not to follow through with it, stating that them surviving would not fit how dark both Ainze and the story are.

Author did a poll for the WN because he was afraid of (backlash for) killing her off, then changed it in the LN because it didn't fit the story. There is no proof for this anywhere. Its what most people believe.

The poll was for the Web novel, and in that Arche “lives”, as a mind-broken vampire servant for Shalltear, though she does get to live with her sisters under the care of Nazarick in the end. But since the author's personal choice was to not let her live, in the LN and anime, she doesn't.
