Overnight Homestay in Khuoi Khon village with Black Lolo Ethnic Tribe | Bao Lac | Lô Lô CAO BẰNG
About this video -
Our next destination after visiting a beautiful bamboo forest and a quick lunch was Khuoi Khon Village, famous for black Lolo ethnic minority. These minorities originally came from Yunnan in China and have migrated south to Vietnam and Thailand. This village is located high up in the mountains, around 60 km from where we had lunch, and it took us close to 2 hours due to winding mountain roads. As we were about to reacg, the road turned very bumpy and eventually ended at the entrance of the village. Here we bought a ticket to enter the village and it cost 1 USD each person. This mainly helps them to keep the village clean and functional for outside visitor. We reached during the beautiful sunset time and also managed to get some great drone shots. The village itself is beautiful and authentic, and the views from here over the mountains and rice fields are stunning. Houses here are mainly made from wood and built on stilts, and most of the local residents are farmers. After 5 minutes walk we reached our homestay and were greeted by the local lady owner of the house. Women of this minority wear their traditional costume, often a black tunic and colourful patterns embroidered on the sleeves and front and gold or silver necklaces and earrings. Setting of the homestay was very traditional with a long hall for people to eat, sit by the fire, chit chat, guests to sleep, and rooms around the hall for kitchen and owner sleeping area. They have a tradition that as the guests from outside the house, men and women are not allowed to sleep together. After we settled our luggage, Tien took us for a short walk around the village where we came across local people coming back from their farms, children playing after school. We then visited one of the black lo lo house to get the real upclose experience of how locals live here. It was dinner time and there were lots of people in hall, many were eating and many sitting around the fire enjoying happy water (local rice wine), eating sugar cane, smoking tobacco pipes and chewing beetlenut leaves. It was such an authentic experience. After spending some time, we went back to our homestay where the owner was busy preparing for sumptuous dinner for the night. We all sat down around the fire, and Tien shared stories about black lo lo and their culture. Soon enough, it was time for dinner, and we had tofu, chicken, egg, cabagge, pork, and dumplings with rice. Of course, we also had the ever famous Happy Water with our meal, which is the local corn wine. Full bellies and warm hearts. This is the kind of experience we live for. Eating locally, spending time with the local people, and simply just being. It was such a great way to learn about their culture by spending night with local people and especially sleeping far away in a very, very long hall;)

About us
--------------
We are Mayur, Gayatri, and Om residing in sunny Singapore. Amongst us we have an Indian who grew up in India, a Singaporean ceylonese who spent decade of her life in Australia and lastly our son, a true born citizen of the mixes, half Indian, half ceylonese and very Singaporean.
Our videos mainly consist of mountain climbing trips and some solo journeys but mostly of our family of 3. We thrive with each others company on our road less travelled in our own unique style. We really love off the beaten kind of adventures, eating local food, meeting ethnic tribes, going back in time with some historical sites, and simply getting lost. Being in corporate jobs for daily survival, our dream here is to inspire people to explore this beautiful world and realise that there is more in life than just 9 to 5.
