I love dots. They are seriously dangerous! Lol. One suggestion for your water. Most Wal Marts have a water dispenser that is reverse osmosis. Once you buy the bottle you can refill over and over again for about 35 cents a gallon. Cheaper than bottles and less trash. Just a suggestion. Love you guys!
We live full-time in our RV and are staying right now in Newberry Springs, about 20 miles down the road from Barstow. The grocery selections in this area leave something to be desired. I highly doubted you would succeed in your pretzel quest - congratulations! Oh wow! The Barn is like 3 miles from our RV park, also on route 66/national trails highway. Baghdad Cafe is also just a couple miles down the road. Yes, the trains are constant. I'm gonna have to stop by the Barn and find your dollar bill - pretty cool idea!
We can enjoy HH, and brewpubs are our favorite HH place to hang out for a night. If you qualify for the America the Beautiful Senior pass, a Corps of Engineers campground might actually be cheaper if you already have your drinks & dinner figured out, and often has water & electrical hookups if not a full hookup. We can only do so many boondocking nights in a row while traveling
Thank you for sharing, Henry! We have stayed at a COE campground and loved it 😊 they are always so nice and well-maintained. Thank you for your wonderful support.
Thanks Hanks. You've created a new addiction with those pretzels. I drove across the border from Canada and found them. Nearly ate a whole bag on my drive home.
Your coffee mug though... ha ha ha! A tea kettle and a French press or Melitta is a perfect combo for non-electric sites. After living on boats for 30 years we have very few electric kitchen appliances. We have been members of Harvest Hosts since 2013 - LOVE the program & have had so many amazing stays!
The Honey mustard dots are our favorite! Didn’t know about the cinnamon churro ones, thanks for the plug haha. Wife and I hit the road full time tomorrow, you guys were a huge inspiration to us and we can’t wait to meet you out on the road!!
James, we are certainly gonna have to go back and check out the honey mustard ones. They sound so good! Let us know what you think about the cinnamon ones 😃 Thank you for your wonderful support! We look forward to seeing ya'll!
I was on my first night out on my own coming home from my sons driveway in my Class C. My home is Sultan, WA. I have never done this on my own. Buying this RV last April a couple months after my husband passed. My house is too big and 2.3 acres is too much for me to keep up with. So I rented the place out to people I know. So now I'm home there on the gravel pad on my property. 2 nights on the road was trippy and went fine.... sort of. I laughed at myself first night after plugging in to their pole at the park and going in RV and no lights worked. Then I realized I needed to flip the power switch on at the pole. Dah! Anyway.... happy travels. Thanks for your great video's! I'll be 69 this year. I'm thinking of leaving this RV parked here on property and buying a van that can be stood in and making that my travel RV so it's cheaper for fuel and I won't have to tow a car.
Hi Kathy. First of all, we just want to say how sorry we are about your husband. You are doing such a great job by getting out and living RV life to the fullest! Keep us posted on the buying of a van 🚐 We appreciate your support!
Safe travels/stay warm! Love all the different Harvest Host options. Have met great people, restful stays, some very interesting host options. Yaks, alpaca, llama, horses, farms, restaurants, bars, wineries, distilleries, breweries, rv parks...restful/safe/interesting....yes.
We have a DuraMax also, our mechanic told us to avoid bio diesel. Also, we stay at Elk lodges, the RV sites are usually away from the bar and restraunt parking.
We heard the same about the biodiesel but not much of a problem if you run your diesel engine a lot, which we do just about everyday. Most people fill up then the truck sits there a lot. That's why 18-wheelers don't run into issues but pick up trucks do
I keep hearing about over night stays in Walmart parking lots . It would be a good thing to remind RVers that not every Walmart allows over night parking , I haven't found one Walmart In Pa or Maine that allows it . Keep up the good work and safe travels to you.
Have watched your videos for about two years and learned a lot. But to be honest you can only watch you get rid of trash, fill up with gas, back in,pull out, go to the grocery store, do laundry etc. so much . I enjoy seeing the areas you are at.
Hi guys, just a suggestion! You should look into an automatic transfer switch for your power system. No need for lugging shore power cord around to plug into your inverter.
I like the sound of traffic too and especially trains. Just stayed in Selgiman, AZ, on Rt 66 where a train came by about every 10 minutes. Good snoozin'!
Great Video. I was a member of Harvest Host for 2 years and never used it. I thought I would, but my wife wasn't ready to taking long trips. We were going to use on trip to western NC last year, and we liked the idea that you can plan or book in advance. We booked a stay at Harvest Host winery in NC, but day we pick they were having a mushroom fest. We decided to opt out and stayed a private campsite for one night off I-40.
Your baaaack! Yes! Love watching y’all. Having your lives spotlighted has to be a drain at times. We all go through it. And can’t always have that happy face on. But your Happy Face is back. Goofy, Fun, Informative… Charge on. This channel is more than a travel channel. It’s also informative on how to be best friends with your husband /wife. Just an old guys take .
Hey Hanks! We stayed at "The Barn" at the end of August. Our weather was a bit different than what you had. It was 109 degrees with 40mph winds! We felt like we were in a convection oven! We also ate there... we were told we could have anything on the menu, as long as it was pizza. We ordered a pizza with a few toppings on it, and the pizza we received didn't have anything we ordered on it. We had a few beers with the locals, and had good conversation and a good time. Thanks for the tip on the cinnamon dots, we haven't seen those! We were eating our Beaver Nuggets while watching this week's episode though!
Wow!!! canyon park not too far from home!!! spent many a day there in my trailer, i didnt realize you guys came this way...my neck of the woods....wish i cud have seen you drive by !!! my house right off the freeway (91) have fun!!
Love u guys!!! You are so informative and far from boring!!! Keep up the excellent work! So grateful 2 c the wife so familiar with RV's, helping me gain confidence in taking on this new adventure.
We knew that was you guys!! We were on the 91west in cali going towards Anaheim from Riverside and we saw Solly exiting!!! So fun seeing ya'll in Cali....great video too 😊 😊
Three things: 1. I love watching your videos. You two are awesome and Dexter makes me kinda like cats. 2. My wife would drive 100 miles out of the way for Dots. 3. Check out the old song by Devonsquare called “Bye-bye RT 66”. It’s great and fitting for your trip. Bonus: Harvest Host is great. We use it when traveling in the Northeast. Enjoy!
Ready for lift off! I love your videos! So much info and content and comedy all at the same time. Keep it up! ^_^ Mom and I drove that exact freeway back to Vegas when we were visiting family in S.D. and there is a warning of black ice and sometimes it snows at that height. We were lucky enough that the roads were cleared and the roads opened up. Just stay safe you two!
Just love your posts & your videos! You two are SO MUCH FUN & truly GREAT! I just wish you posted more often & for longer segments! I know it’s a lot of work, but they seem so short! Anyhow! EXCELLENT VIDEOS! 💕
My husband calls me a weather rebel. By the end of March, no matter where we go, I dress for spring into summer. Gotta get a jump on the summer tan, even if it leads to frost bite 😂
Lol! If we ever meet on the road, you can tell me how you really feel! There are worse places, but Barstow is not my favorite. I have friends I made in the Army that still live there.
DOTS pretzels was started in Velva about 12 years ago in Legendary North Dakota 100 miles from us. Thanks Hanks for another great adventure video. PS the music is a nice addition 🤗
There's an RV park in Denver on Colfax, across the street from a biker bar. The music was great (and loud), but the bikes taking off after closing time kept setting off my truck's alarm. And, traffic...
Welcome to the world of Dot's Pretzels! Most of the time I eat their regular seasoned pretzels, but their cinnamon sugar ones are a real treat. You guys were right in my backyard on this episode. Good tip on the Harvest Hosts program. I use hosts along my travels quite frequently on my travels. The membership fee is money well spent. Keep up the great videos.
Stayed at the Harvest Host south of Barstow called the Slash X Ranch/bar. Huge parking area and quiet at night. Had breakfast in the bar, it was very good, got to see all the off roaders in their Mad Max outfits having breakfast! I'm from Redding, CA, got to travel a lot of the same routes as you.
Dots are the BEST! I haven't tried that flavor yet! Definitely will have to look for those! Crazy weather! Thanks for sharing another great video! Glad you checked that spare tire!❤
We are in WV and stayed at our first Boondockers Welcome host. We've dealt with flooded roads, high winds, and snow. Just to add some drama, Perry, our RAM 2500, decided to throw a Service DEF code. It's fixed and we're on our way to Kentucky in the morning.
I got the Dots cinnamon pretzels for a road trip because of this video. They really do taste like churros! I can see why you two bought so many bags. They are perfect with coffee. I’m trying the Honey Mustard ones next. Thank you.
Did you happen to notice that NO ONE was wearing shorts at Walmart!! LOL! We tried the honey Mustard pretzels and they are awesome - we will have to try the Cinnamon and sugar ones - as we love Churros! Safe travels!
They have Dot's pretzels at our Walmart in Va Beach. I went looking for them after watching this. I prefer savory to sweet, so the "southwest" flavor is really amazing!! Thanks for the tip!
For the Dots pretzels try Sam’s club. The one near us carries the cinnamon flavor 32oz package for $9.98 (less than Costco who didn’t have cinnamon.) Love how honest and natural you appear to be.
Guys, stay away from the big name truck stops fir fuel. We towed from northern Illinois to the Washington coast last year and found that Loves especially averaged 40 cents a gallon more than other stations for diesel. Amazing what driving a few blocks off the interstate will do for you.
We've found Harvest Hosts to be a great program to help us explore places we would have never visited. Before we found the program, and didn't want to stay in a campground, we would find the nearest Walmart or Cabela's and park there. Harvest hosts has allowed us to find everything from a sporting clays range nestled in an old civil war plantation, to a dinosaur museum! We have enjoyed meeting the hosts, and have even had dinner and a campfire with some of them.
For what its worth, there is a Flying J or Pilot about 1 mi West of the Walmart in Barstow with a dump & water station & a large store inside. Drove by that Bar-n that you stayed but wasn't aware it was a Harvest Host location. Next time... I noticed you showed Peggy Sue's in the background of your 'pitch' for Harvest Host. GREAT place to eat, but screechy part of town to overnight. We moved on.
I'm going to have to try the pretzels they sound good. Great catch on the spare tire Carl good looking out. That's the first one I've seen come down on its own. Looking forward to next week stay safe
Someone may have suggested this but if in the Anaheim area stay at Prado regional park in the farthest loop. A little off the highway & nice & inexpensive.
The cinnamon sugar dots pretzels are awesome. Next time, grab some cream cheese frosting to dip them in....caution it will make them even more addicting....😎
OMGosh I LOVE you guys!!! I accidentally landed on your channel one day, and now as soon as I get off work I'm on the Hanks' channel! You bring so many giggles and smiles to my world! Kiss Dexter on the nosey for me!❤
Howdy Hanks, it's great to see you today. My wife and I just got done watching the from the beginning section on your playlist. And it seems that yt changed my notifications. Weird
Hi Hanks. If your in the Dallas Texas area there is an indoor RV show at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium April 11 thru 14. JD from Big truck big RV just announced it on his channel. March 30 video.
We love Harvest Host!Have stayed at some AWESOME ones! Oh by the way guys…have y’all ever considered getting a small Berkey for your water? We invested in the small one just for us two & my husband loves not having to haul cases of water bottles ever again! We love it! Oh…we have property with 3 acres about 30 miles North of Nashville, TN. if you are ever interested in a stay for a few days around this area. Just PM us for more details & dates. We travel occasionally! 😊
Great video. Question? When you stay hooked up to your truck over night do put your front jacks down to take the pressure off the truck? Wondering that as we will be doing some boonedocking soon. You guys are awesome 😎 ❤
Okay Hanks I got my new camper pull behind with the two slide outs or three slide outs I guess anyway it's new to me and I hope I run into you sometime love you guys
Love Harvest Host our favorite way to overnight from place to place…thank you for all the great videos, we will look for the dollar bill at the bar 😁 #Maga 🙏🇺🇸🙏
We are heading the same direction, we passed that bar a day ago. We are in Williams now stopping off at the Grand Canyon before continuing east to Texas for the eclipse.
Hey you two...havent left a comment in a while...fellow health care worker here. I see you stayed at Canyon RV park its literally 2 min down the street from my house...i live in Yorba Linda and was born and raised in Anaheim. I pass by that campground bright and early every morning going to work. Im a scrubtech at a nearby surgery center. Would have been fun to have met up! Oh well maybe some other time...hitting the road here soon myself...travel scrubtech here i come...stay safe!
If you’re doing the Harvest Host thing, check out Roy’s Amboy Motel and Cafe (currently being restored), they have the best Rootbeer floats. If you’re continuing East, then The Junkyard on 66 in Grants, NM. We’ve stayed there a few times. They have the best Pulled Pork sandwiches.
