Ryan Hall is my go-to. He can cover seven states with severe weather at the same time. His 501c team goes directly to those who need immediate help with recovery.
We stayed at that Harvest Host Winery - Bar Z. We had a great time. The owner was very friendly and showed me his high performance BMW. Had pizza delivered and watched a NFL football game. We would definitely stay there again.
We love & support Ryan Hall,Y’all. He and his team are our go to whenever weather comes alive. Especially when we’re home in LaPlace, LA.. He’s called out our street before for a tornado.. ❤️ your adventures!
I use a 50 amp to 15 amp pigtail all the time. It plugs into the 50 amp plug on the RV then I run a 15 amp extension cord from there. It is so much easier than wrestling with a 50 amp cord when you only are plugging into a 15 amp outlet. Especially handy when boondocking and running my 2000 watt generator.
We love Ryan Hall, Y’all and his Xtra channel! (But we love you guys bigger!) So glad you got through it unscathed. We opted to stay in Clyde, TX for the eclipse, so we missed totality. I hated it but we just couldn’t trust the weather in the Dallas area. Just FYI: In Grand Prairie, TX there’s a campground called Loyd Park at Joe Pool Lake. So nice! Close to shopping and dining. Seems like y’all don’t get much time to just hang out and be quiet, but if you find yourselves in that area again, it’s a pretty nice campground. As always, THANKS HANKS for all you do for us! It truly makes our RVing experiences better! Smooches to Dexter! 🐱
SoTina, you have stayed in Lloyd Park and liked it? We rode through but were just not that impressed. However, there was a lot of rode const. in the area, and hard getting in and out. We stay at Cedar Hill State Park Due to back surgery we haven't been since we got everything redone and reopened after the flooding several years ago. We may just have to check out Lloyds Park again!
Oh WOW…Watching your video last evening, we noticed the Airstream captured (08:31) at the Amarillo Harvest Host was us!!! We love your videos…Keep them coming!
We've watched you guys for about 3 years now (along with 5 other full timers). Husband retires in Nov. Wednesday, we bought our RV!!!!! We'll sell our house soon and live full time in our 5th wheel. Time to see all of the US. Thanks Hanks for all the support and encouragement! We hope to see you on the road (We're in Utah now but from CO)!
Dang Hanks! Just 50 miles away, guess I should monitor ya’ll more better. Glad the storm didn’t catch ya’ll, it got us instead. Life is good though, only the pool pump was damaged (that’s a whole nother story). Happy Trails Hanks!
Grew up in Texas. Welcome to Texas spring weather. It’s like this every spring. Been following you two for 3 years. The wife and I love seeing you 3 each Thursday. We owe you a lot because you are part of the reason we have been full timing it for last 2 years. Yes, we are just rookies.
Ah the Bar Z Winery, good choice! Danette was born and raised in Amarillo. After I meet her at Disneyland, I moved from Porter Ranch, CA to Amarillo to be with her. We moved to sister city, Canyon, TX where we had our bike shop. I always got a kick out of the Chamber of Commerce brochure that said, ..."a gentle breeze flows over the plains." They failed to mention it was at 30 to 40 knots! HOLD ON TO DEM DOORS!!! lol
Ryan Hall is the go-to for anything severe weather. He and his team is in the game. I recommend his feed to everyone who wants to keep up with the weather.
Great advise on Ryan Hall, he is awesome. Haven't found any one better. He does a great job Keeping you posted if things are going to get bad. Been watching him for a long time.
I put the fan in my camper just like you did on your fridge. Trick I did that would work easy for you is I have the fan plugged into a remote. So I can turn the fan off and on from inside the camper. The remote plugs into the outlet your fridge plugs in and you plug the fan into the remote transmitter. Got it at the local hardware store. Love the videos.
Ryan is the BEST! 👍 He was not on last week when a tornado touched down here in NE Ohio, that just popped up out of nowhere! Luckily it was a little SE of us when the warning came, then a PDS was issued. Nobody was was hurt but it tore up some stuff and rolled 2 semis on the turnpike
Something I don't miss about the south and central USA - hurricanes, tornadoes, hail the size of small dogs, etc. Living in California, dealt with earthquakes, now in the PNW and the serious things here is snow in the winter and fires in the summer. Doesn't matter where you live, there is always something to get ya! safe travels.
You’re a 5er, don’t worry about leaving later at a HH if it’s reasonable (when the open or 10ish in our experience)! Our current theory: class C’s, cans and travel trailers are in a rush and leave quicker. Class A’s and 5ers tend to go regular pace and leave after their regular morning routine.
We are first time everything. 😅 we love your channel. You give it to us, straight and honest. Glad to meet you guys. I am Dawn and the hubby is Michael and we are looking into a new travel trailer. You have given us a lot of information and advice. Thank you, thank you. Dawn and Michael
If you were from the mid-west, you would go out side when the warning sirens go off and stand in the yard and watch for the tornado. And if you see or hear it, then run for cover! It is just what we do!
Lived in Texas for a year (military). As a native FL I’ll never forget! TX weather hits different!! Frying pan in the summer, snow in the winter!😮 And don’t even get me started on the bugs!😳😬☠️😳🤣
Got me chuckling with the awning out/rookie move. Just went through a flash flood warning/evac a few parks ago in SW MO @ 230AM (with crazy downpours and nearby tornadoes) so totally felt this episode. Spring in the midwest! Also added those Dot's cinnamon sugar pretzels to my WM pickup order tomorrow as we head to our new park/home for a week. Cheers!
Welcome to Texas! We bought a brand new F250 on a Friday evening. Sunday morning we had the worst hail storm I've ever. seen in my 57 years! About $10,000 in dent removal, and two weeks later, we got the truck back and it looks brand new again! The new roof and gutters on the house are in process! At least our trailer was in covered storage!!! Enjoy your channel! Come back to Texas when it isn't tornado season!!!The weather this spring has been worse than usual!
Lots of traveling and then into possible Tornado. It was just like I was riding along. Glad it didn't get bad for y"all. Safe travels and looking forward to seeing the Harvest Host.
Carl, I would really urge you to install a transfer switch for your inverter. I actually have 2 in our class B. They are fully automatic. As an engineer I did not have to learn the hard way that the inverter can't be used to power the battery charger.😊 My 2 switches work this way: The first is connected to shore tie and generator. If shore tie is connected the switch goes to shore tie, if not, the switch is lined up to generator. The output of first switch goes to second switch. If either 110 source is present, that source is connected, if not, it is connected to the inverter. The battery charger is fed from a branch circuit off the first switch, so it cannot be powered unless generator or shore tie connected. So one thing this does is power my entire 110v panel off the 2000 w inverter, but there are loads that I need to cut off or the inverter would overload. I put red and yellow labels on the breakers and turn those off if running on inverter (air conditioner, Hot water heater). (The water heater also runs on propane). I'd be happy to help you fix up Soli!
We need to figure this out for the long run. For now we are basic set up with portable generator and will see how boondocking goes. Thanks for the great tips!!
Hanks, you guys are the best! Two things…1. I40 is the WORST highway I have ever traveled! We went to Houston and back last year…thought we were both going to need new teeth! 2. If the dryer hose comes loose again, you could simply put 2 screws through the band clamp after tightening it, that will fix it so it won’t vibrate loose, but remain removable.
We love "Toe Beans" 😻 Hey! An Airstream! Yay! Kitty cuddles are the BEST! We have not heard of Ryan, will have to check him out. OH NO! Glad you figured out the dryer vent issue. - Michelle
Enjoying your channel. Always scary when there is a tornado risk in the area. But I still always smile watching this. Carl just continues to remind me of Harry Solomon (Actor French Stewart) in Third Rock From The Sun.
Yes!! We love having access to his channel!!! We were in Texas just before y’all. We got out before the crowd of people arriving for the eclipse. Up here in northern Illinois we experienced 90 ish %. Our goal had been to escape winter in March. We avoided a big snowfall.
I've been a member of Ryan Hall's channel for over 2 years and his streams are super helpful to know what the storms are going to do way before they get to you. I live in Joplin, Missouri and grew up in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas so I've been through many storms and a few tornadoes. Stay safe out there!
Oh my goodness. I relate so much… always find myself rushing across country. Legit tell myself to slow down and enjoy the journey and I just don’t. Haha. So fun watching your videos !
Where are your Beaver Nuggets in that snack pile? Visited our first Buc-ee's last week and totally your fault that I'm now addicted to their Beaver Nuggets! 😍
We are from Ontario Canada, and don’t experience many tornadoes. When we are snowbirds and travelling through the states, Ryan Hall is my go to channel to follow the weather. He has an awesome channel. My husband is pretty chilled about the weather, but I am always watching and thinking of where to go to be safe.😂❤️
Love our harvest host membership as well. Been to many wineries, pubs, farms, museums - just nice to get off the road in a safe place. Must say.. you are very entertaining - could watch you guys all day (but I have chores to do!). Be safe!
Another great video! I had to open trip wizard when you pulled in at Wichita Falls because we just booked a reservation there. At the same place! Nice to see where we'll be staying for a night on an upcoming trip. I grew up in tornado alley so it was fun to hear all the storm talk. :)
Hey Guys, just a little tip. That screwdriver you're using to fix the vent is also a nut driver. It has a couple sizes built in to it. You can pull the flat bit out and you will see the shaft is like a small socket. If you flip the shaft you will have another size and I thing there is a shaft then a sleeve which gives another size and then the bit. So you can use it on the hose clap and get a better tightening on the clamp then what you will get by using the flat bit. Happy Trails :)
We are happy you stayed in our town of Whiskey Taw Falls! We would have loved to treat you at our local brewery. We were already camping in east Texas for the eclisp that night. Please look us up if you are passing thru again, we are right off 287 between Iowa Park and Wichita Falls and have a driveway long enough to park your rig! Ken and Brenda T.
I am a new viewer to your channel, and I do love it so far. This video is ironic in that you folks were on your way to see the eclipse, I flew to Missouri to see it, and go camping at the same time. That camping trip made me decide to get ready for my retirement and buy an RV and a truck. And you traveled on the 40 from AZ to TX, which is what I did two weeks ago to pick up my RV.
Good advice to pull in your awning when high winds come up. Also if it gets bad enough reduce your profile and pull in your slides as well. High winds can blow through the slide seals and bring in the rain where you don’t want it. Good luck on your way to the eclipse.
Hey Hanks We just left that RV park a few days ago, following the eclipse. We also had a tornado warning while we were there. Fun times. Isn’t that an interesting RV park? I’ve never seen sites so long. But we enjoyed our one night stay there. Keep it going! Tim n Bev
Hey Hanks... You can still a hole through the floor for the power cord to go through, so you can shut/ lock door... Many different kinds of opens to choose from to seal hole when not in use... ( The big one that the stinky Slinky goes through is the best, it's large and has a screw in sealed opening) Good luck, safe travels... 👍
Carl !!!!! For your dog bone connection.....use the vent that was installed for venting your flooded batteries. Should be big enough for a pass through.
Hey Kids, I am from Wichita Falls thought it was cool . My Uncle came and visited in his motor home and stayed at that same rv place. I have been watching y’all the last 2 months we just purchased a 21 ft travel trailer and so I started watching you two sweet/funny kids to get lots of tips and tricks on how to own a travel trailer have learn d a lot from yall. God bless y’all in all your travels. If you are ever back thru WF maybe we could meet up.
As a lifelong Midwesterner, you did pretty well! Yes, severe thunderstorms are pretty common, along with a few tornados. The nice part about tornados is that they’re small, so the odds of one hitting exactly where you are are small, but of course if they do it’s bad - kinda like standing in a field while someone shoots a bullet across it…somewhere. Asking about or scoping out what the best shelter option is upon arrival is definitely the right move, and filling up the water tank is a smart tip too. Having things all set to take pets with you to the shelter is key too - you don’t want to be scrambling looking for leashes or collars when it’s time to skedaddle. The one improvement I’d suggest is to also get a NOAA weather alert radio, for when you can’t rely on cell service for a warning. (This also comes with the caveat that you need to know where you are - keeping track of *county* names when away from home and in unfamiliar areas is important.)
I went through junior high and high school in Wichita Falls; in fact we attended my 50th reunion in 2022. We were in Germany when the “big one” hit in 1979 and couldn’t contact my parents for 3 days. Check out some of the videos when you get a chance. The storms are nothing to have a false since of security about; you two did the right things. The locals respect those “watches and warnings “. Since you made it through the storm, I can tell you about the time we had baseball (no kidding) size hail that bounced eight feet off the ground after it hit. 😳 We hope you enjoyed the eclipse.
Oh yeah, we watch Ryan Hall y’all a lot and he’s really great. We bought his silly snow measuring tool to help support his channel but sticking it in the yard so you can you know when you start filling up with snow it’s gonna let you know how deep it is, thanks for the great video
An idea for you, add a LITTLE silicone around your vent pipe before sliding it on to to act as a glue, but too much and it will destroy the flex tube taking it off if you ever need to. Another great video, keep it up.
You should keep a small neccessities bag packed all the time with a Change of clothes also in emergency bag. I keep all my important papers in one notebook with plastic pockets. All in one place. You never know when you need it. Lived in Kansas for 15 yrs....I'm in Ohio and still have a bag (literally have had 2 tornadoes here this year). Glad you are good.
