Some Pokémon moves lose use due to time, being replaced by better options. Some could be good but have been overshadowed by moves simply stronger or more valuable. In this video we take a look at some of the most OVERSHADOWED Pokémon moves.
Did I miss any? Drop a comment and let me know which moves you feel are overshadowed!

You can make it ignore any type of protection aside from detect which can block it and get more value because of this. Why? fun fact, dondozo with waterfall over liquidation/wave crash has recently been seeing more usage (especially in ubers uu) due to its higher pp and slightly more useful effect, as dondozo cannot take advantage of the defence drop, and you can get a lucky flinch against pokemon using phasing or under trick room.

What’s funny in gen 1 is that Machamp has a niche in para flinch teams, not with submission, but with low kick. Because in gen 1 it was a fighting type move (so it gets stab) and had normal damage and flinch chance like stomp. Also with Pokiwrath, it can run submission to hit chansey but it’s main use is as an amnesia (basically two calm minds in gen 1) sweeper with surf and ice beam /blizzard (which was 90% accurate)

I think Seed Bomb hits the overshadowed mark right on the head. 80 BP and 100 accuracy is solid as far as attacks go, but that's all there is to it. Even back when it was introduced, it was outclassed by the likes of Power Whip, Wood Hammer, and the newly buffed Leaf Blade. Then as the generations progressed, it kept on getting more and more competition from moves like Horn Leech, Petal Blizzard (honestly another overshadowed move in its own right, but still stronger than Seed Bomb), the large array of signature Grass attacks, and even Bullet Seed backed by Skill Link, Technician, or Loaded Dice. The only reason you'd ever use Seed Bomb over its competition is that it's your only option for a decently strong physical Grass move, so something like Donphan or Morpeko, or you're ingame and don't have anything better without shaky accuracy. Coolest Fighting-type move is Body Press btw

I feel like flying definitely has disappointing pool. In first 3 gens wing attack and fly were your only goof options since drill peck has a very small distribution but even to this day brave bird remains the best (physical)option which isnt bad but for regular gameplay i tend to avoid recoil moves to promote longevity. Which leaves dual wingbeat which is essentially 80 base power but only 90 accuracy.

I see your "give X-Scissor a high crit chance" and raise you a "convert all of the 70 BP high crit chance moves into 65 BP guaranteed crit moves instead (including buffing Frost Breath and Storm Throw to that BP)". Would make the moves much more reliable at combating defense buffs/offense debuffs while still being decent even if no stat changes are in play.

Sky Uppercut is my favorite fighting move, it hit targets using Fly, Bounce, and Sky Drop. I wish it was stronger.
@Twinsidedsoldier
@Twinsidedsoldier 3 месяца назад
It could have an effect like double damage to mons using fly, bounce, skydrop. The fact that its made as a suprise move to mons who take to the sky should be taking them by suprise (hence more damage).
@WimerC10
@WimerC10 3 месяца назад
@@TwinsidedsoldierI don't know how much power it has, but you can make it double damage to every foe which isn't on earth, making it a very viable option. Why? Because flying type mons, levitate mons, magnet rise or variants and the moves you just mentioned gets double damage from it. Maybe a 70 base power would work because the ghost mons are the only ones (if there isn't scrappy or similar skills). Basically a flying mons facade which is dangerous if distributed wisely.

Another trio ovovershadowed moves now is Thunder Fang, Thunder Punch and Wild Charge, thanks to the introduction of Supercell Slam. Physical Grass types will lean towards Grassy Glide over moves like Horn Leech or Seed Bomb, or even Wood Hammer. Flare Blitz is used over Heat Crash, Fire Punch and Fire Fang.
@WimerC10
@WimerC10 3 месяца назад
You could give new properties to these moves so they won't be as useless. Seed bomb You could be given a new life if you add 30% flinch rate, because its name evokes explosions those can stun you, then giving this property would give a good move to the grass mons with serene grace or a more dependable move because of the 80 base power it's evenly matched with iron head who also has 30% chance to flinch. Well, the rest of the moves are boosted by their own characteristics if you have a skill like iron fist or strong jaw, the only one who is lacking is wild charge, but if you make it an electrical close combat it would do wonders. Wild Charge Power, accuracy and effects of a close combat just with the electric type. Reason, after doing it you lose some of your charge reducing your defenses towars any incoming damage.
@grunkleg.3110
@grunkleg.3110 3 месяца назад
No, not quite. - Supercell Slam is a pretty garbage move all things considered. Its drawback of 50% recoil upon failure means all you need to do is switch in a Ground-type or something with the proper ability and that attacker's losing half their health - Grass-types will only use Grassy Glide if they have terrain support, so basically limited to Rillaboom and maybe ally Ogerpon in Doubles. Otherwise physical Grass-types would rather use Power Whip / Horn Leech / Wood Hammer / Leaf Blade / signature move - Heat Crash is more of a sidegrade to Flare Blitz. Max power Heat Crash is the same as Flare Blitz but without the massive recoil, so some Fire-types like Gouging Fire will sometimes use Heat Crash over Flare Blitz. Plus a few things that want Fire coverage learn Heat Crash but not Flare Blitz, such as Snorlax
@bapbeepskull
@bapbeepskull 3 месяца назад
Supercell Slam & Wild Charge are kind of on a middle ground, really. Depending on whether you're taking the risk of strong 100 BP with a small amount of self-harm if missed or a solid 90 BP with slight recoil impact depending on how hard you hit your opponent.

Speaking about magnitude, the fact that the damage it's random i would change it to something better. A ground type heavy slam. Depending on the heaviness of the mon its damage will vary from 50 to 150. (I don't remember the range) This is specifically good for the ground type because the same as steel and rock types, the ground mons in general are heavyweight making it an excellent option for them. Why? Because the mons who are weak to it, fire, poison, electrical aside from some steel and rock mons are lightweight making it a move which easy can get over 120 with no side effects

Lets fix some of these moves: Sky Uppercut - super effective against flying types Frost Breath - 70 base power rather than 60 (105 power with crit) Lands Wrath - buff to 110 base power (so it gets use over earthquake) Shadow Punch - buff to 80 base power Chip Away - buff to 80 base power Uproar - buff to 120 base power (on par with thrash) X-scissor - high crit ratio Extrasensory - buff flinch rate to 30% Twin Beam - buff to 50 base power (100 with both hits)
@WimerC10
@WimerC10 3 месяца назад
Shadow punch it's a perfect accuracy move for ghost and those in general have 60 power by it's characteristics, so instead of more power i would add another effect, make it let the mon be able to ignore priority moves, which will make this a lot stronger in exchange of the power, many mons can learn it, perfect precision and the priority gets nuked by this.
@WimerC10
@WimerC10 3 месяца назад
I would make frost breath with 30% on freezing chance. High freeze ratio, critical hits to ignore defenses which makes it a solid 90 base power move with two effects one direct (freeze) and another indirect (ignores defense boost)
@aghadlarhen9397
@aghadlarhen9397 3 месяца назад
Lands Wrath should have a better secondary effect because even though it's a signature move for Zygarde, Zygarde's other moves, Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves have better use cases. (Arrows especially for hitting flying/levitating.) Maybe giving it a sorta "secret power"-esque effect that inflicts status/stat downs depending on the current terrain.

Okay as a nuzlocker who mostly plays the older games this video is kind of breaking my mind. Staple moves in my runs are considered overshadowed and moves that are less that 100% accurate are considered viable. Really highlights the differences between Nuzlockes and competitive I guess
@redwings13400
@redwings13400 3 месяца назад
Nuzlocke runs are limited via tm distribution and placement, so your movesets in nuzlockes are often limited by what you have access to instead of by what the pokemon can theoretically learn. Nuzlockes also value consistency and pp a lot more than competitive play. In a nuzlocke, using something like high jump kick is a death sentence because you will eventually miss if you rely on it, and you only need to miss in one critical situation for a pokemon to die. Brick break is a much more reliable option that usually has the power necessary to ko the generally weaker pokemon you face. In competitive, you sometimes want to take more risks with stronger, less reliable moves because not getting a damage range to ko an opponent is more common, and not having that extra power is much more often the same as not attacking at all. Basically, every competitive battle is played as if it’s the last fight in a nuzlocke, so more reckless and riskier strategies are often needed there.
