Im not a "professional" graphic designer by any means, but they could have found a way to incorporate the aesthetic without making all the apps look the same right? They could have at LEAST kept gmail's logo an envelope for fuck sake. (Also the G logo isn't a perfect circle and it drives me crazy even though it's not that noticable/important)
Yeah, I honestly miss the confidence companies had back then. Now, some of them are some of the most play it safe teams out there. I would rather see a bold company try something that doesn't work rather than a safe company try something that has no critical reception
Same. All these simple logos are just so boring. I'm of the mindset that a logo should be designed to catch your attention and all these simple logos have the opposite effect. At least half of them nowadays are so far simplified that I actually have to think for a second what it's supposed to be at which point if I wasn't already actively searching for said brand I'll have already driven or scrolled past it.
@Safwaan "and one day that bubble will pop" I really hope that day comes soon. I just really hate feeling like I'm deciphering ancient egyptian hieroglyphs when I'm shopping plus the old way logos were done in the 90's/2000's was just way more fun and interesting to look at.
I feel like we're gonna get logos that keep on being more and more simplified that at some point there will be effort made again because no one is gonna recognize something that's one single dot.
@@Alex-kh8zj I’m not complaining, I just don’t see why they felt the need to simplify it in the first place. Why are you still talking to some guy in the comments who had nothing better to do that day?
HP - “ITS JUST SO GOOD!” But I didn’t even know what the FUCK IT WAS. Glad some others agree with me. There’s always something in an Alax video that leaves me baffled by a choice of his...
I think companies should have both a simple AND a detailed logo. So depending on the situation they can choose which one to use and everyone will be satisfied and won’t have to look at the same few boring shapes every second
I feel that is the case with HP and Sailor, they both use multiple logos, the hp in this video is only on some laptops to match the style. With Sailor they use the "long S" logo on metal components, the "casio-like" logo for most things and the "thin" logo as their official brand identity one.
It's all cyclical...I think. Though I'd say in the 90s/2000s we really had more hard edges, more serif fonts...we played around a bit more. When I think over-complex I think of engraved illustrations and the like of the early 20th century. We could easily somehow see that again. (Probably not.)
If you were to ask me what's the worst example of an oversimplified logo , it'd be the one for Nickelodeon , cause it just feels like it sucked out the creativity and fun out of the original logo.
@Dusk Raccoon the modern nick logo is just the word "Nick" written in a font and made orange. I could do that style of "logo" in less than a minute in microsoft word.
Haha! That's so funny Toxiquid! Begging for money on patreaon makes you such a funny joke! ( i sound like an asshole here but man that reply just rubs me the wrong way)
I really loved those late 90s early 2000s logos. Overly detailed sure, but they seemed like the big budget version of the old logo. Instead of just flattening it.
I hard disagree on the HP and GO logos I think they're awful. It's just nonsensical shapes. I think a logo should also be discernable to someone who is not already intimately familiar with the brands. I see those 2 logos and have absolutely no idea wtf they're trying to represent or convey in the slightest and I actually got the HP one after a few seconds trying to figure out what the hell it is.
@@obvfw Supreme is a skateboarding brand first established in 1994. The brand used to be fairly know back than but seen a huge uprising around 6 years ago. Their logo is very simplistic.
Counter-argument: make a logo that’s time consuming to draw so that kids will go buy your stuff just so they can cut out the logo and glue it to their notebook!
Yeah that’s kind of what all the oversimplification of brands are trying to achieve make logos so simple that anyone can make them that way people themselves can do the marketing for you
Game Theory: Oversimplified logos are being made because companies are trying to make their logos simple enough to be one of those things that gets seen everywhere in normal objects, like the Crewmates
NGL that simplified YT logo actually is pretty clever and surprisingly complex. You can tell it’s RU-vid because of the Y and T, as well as the nice Variation of shades in the reds making it feel relaxing yet movie-ish. You can also tell it’s a Video site due to the Play button.
Agreed. Logos of all kinds fascinate me, and Alax's presentation style, knowledge, and humor had me pointer-finger-death-punching Subscribe and Like within seconds. Time for a binge catching-up session!
your videos have such unique pacing and comedy, it feels like jontron with how special they all are. I hope to keep seeing your future stuff and keep up the great work!
If the oversimplification goes any further, the amount of information condensed into such a minimalistic design will hit critical density and collapse into a conceptual singularity. All the logos will be just dots.
All these simple logos are just so boring. I'm of the mindset that a logo should be designed to catch your attention and all these simple logos have the opposite effect. I sit here every day, of every month, of every year. Wishing, hoping, praying that one day they'll bring back the older version of the Pepsi logo. Y'know the one that had so much life put into it.
Why? The logo atm is basically the same, previously while the logo was the other thing unconsciously everyone considered the logo what is currently is. If you asked anyone to draw the logo they will have drawn the current one
I was yelling at the screen "that's Hungry Jacks!" and remembered that Hungry Jacks is Burger King but Aussie, and then realised thats where BK stole the logo from haha
I had no idea that was supposed to be the HP logo. I can't agree with you on that one. If you hand't shown it was supposed to be HP I would never have figured it out in my lifetime.
To be honest, I still prefer 2000's style logos. Part of it is nostalgia, part of it is just being sick of modern design trends, and part of it is the fact that these logos actually had much more character than modern logos, even if I know what the purpose of a logo really is.
Personally I really miss the overdesigned stuff of the 90's but then I also love it when I see a Need for Speed Underground looking shitbox with big wing and underglow so maybe that's just me
Speaking of Ben 10, people keep thinking I look like Ben 10 in my world Seriously, I was given this human form by the First Existence, show some respect!
why can't you guys overcome the 2000, sometimes you need to remember these logos aren't in a vacuum, they are together in desktops or in shops, and the old over detailed logos where a visual nightmare when put together
Hey Alax! As a graphic designer I love that you made this video. I wanted to add that I think a part of the problem might be schooling as well. When I was getting my degree the professors focused on us using very clean modern fonts and that led most of us using Helvetica or Gotham and some other plain sans serif fonts. They wanted the creativity to come from what we can do with the type rather than choosing fonts that fit the subject we were working with.
