In my case, SCE rejected my load calculation in Excel and asked for the acknowledgement form instead. They stated the calculation form would delay the process. In the correction email they stated that I had 10 days within the email date to respond and stay on NEM 2.0.
I just submitted my application yesterday, and my proposed system is double my previous 12 month's usage because I'm buying an electric car, and will be using far more electric heat and AC. I sent in Excel justification form with calculations, conservatively estimating a 2.5x increase in usage. Do you think applications are being rejected based on this, or rejected because a justification wasn't properly included in the application?
Good point! Maybe take a look at that 150% rule I looked at in the FAQ on SCE. Let us know how you interpret it. Also I’m new to this. Can you tell us what your hourly kw rate is on your car and how many hrs per week your driving. Is it close to what I put down on the video?
@@dannyjensen4954 The 150% is confusing. In one place it seems a recommendation so as not to waste money; in another it seems that's the maximum offset allowed, but didn't seem directly related to application approval--just the maximum NEM payback. I tried calling SCE but the wait times are currently in the several hours range--no doubt because of today's deadline. A friend of mine put his system up in 2022, requested and got 200% of load for the same reason as me--planned upgrades. He had to sign an attestation of higher use, but the system was approved. I don't know the consequences of "underuse" but it logically the penalty should just be not receiving payment. But it's a utility, so who knows. In my friend's case he was changing from a gas to electric pool/Jacuzzi heaters--a massive consumption jump. I'm buying a Tesla Model 3, and calculated consumption of .35kwh/mile (it's somewhere between .25 and .35), so driving 6000 miles per year would equate to 1500-2100kwh used just for charging. I also added another 2000-3000kwh for using ceiling radiant heat, which i never use because it's so expensive to operate. I'm in So RB and have a medallion electric-only house, so gas isn't an option. The whole reason I want to go solar is to charge the car and be able to freely use heat and AC without an insane electric bill. Current charges are hitting $0.40-.55 per kwh, and only likely going up. One solar installer told me that under NEM 3.0 the justifications are removed, and you can size your system as you please. I guess this makes sense, since you're only being compensated for about 25% of your excess generation under the new scheme
@@dannyjensen4954 Current annual usage comes in at 2800kwh. Est solar production will be 10800kwh using 20 x 400w Qcells panels. The solar system will be installed after my home remodel which adds 500sqft and switching some gas appliances to electric. Yeah so I could find any additional forms to do the justification. So I just uploaded my house plans and the remodel permit.
Hello Danny, I am in Lomita. I appreciate your videos and I just submitted my self install app last night just 30 minutes under the deadline. Lets get together and have a beer in Redondo at the Marina. I will buy you a beer in person and we can co-commiserate over this process. I did get some AMAZING help from Wattmonk! They are amazing!!!! The generated my plans and saved me lots of headaches. The also generated the SLD in my plans. It is amazing how fast they worked my stuff for me. I hope we can get together for a beer this weekend. Thanks for your videos.
I just got home today. Tomorrow I’m busy again. I don’t work so week days are good. Or maybe we could talk on the phone before 10:00am? Tree1ofor8ninertree4to7 text me we can talk about projects.
@@dannyjensen4954 I'll join you two for that beer! Danny, I think I'm your neighbor in South Redondo, and was wondering if I could view your Solar install. I'm a big DIY'r, including re-roofing my house, plus extensive electrical and plumbing work, and flooring too--all learned form watching youtube videos. Solar seemed a bit too daunting, esp the engineering details and application process, but your videos proved me wrong. I got my application in with 45 minutes to spare. Hopefully it'll get approved, but risking $94 to save maybe $20,000 or more is a pretty good bargain!
@@dannyjensen4954Jensen Wow, glad this is over, one way or another. Why did this have to be so complicated? I guess for SCE/PGE, it would reduce their responsibility moving forward if more customers had batteries - is that the reason that getting grandfathered is so difficult? I guess that would make sense - more EV's supposedly will severaly tax the distribution grid, much less the power generation one - and most (?) would be charging at night. Anyway, thanks again Danny for making this less painful. Too bad we don't have a discord to chime in if/when our various applications are approved or rejected. Maybe there is an appeal process you can do another video on. :) It didn't occur to me, but i wonder how chatGPT would have answered.
Attach this to justification upload on nem2 app asap www.sce.com/sites/default/files/inline-files/Customer%20Affidavit%20for%20SystemAnnual%20Production%20Increases%204_2_20%20WCAG.pdf
@@dannyjensen4954 Is this affidavit needed in addition to the Load Justification spreadsheet submitted as part of the NEM application? If so can I still upload it to the powerclerk site even though the 14th has passed?
@@hbfilmworks3717 If you can attach it and submit it I would do definitely do it if I had a system with less than 12 mos history, it is a required document. Please re-read the FAQ first to see if you agree with my interpretation. Do this ASAP. Please let us know if you were able to submit the modification and report what the status screen says on the date submitted.
@@hbfilmworks3717 perhaps submit the signed form to the email address on the support link in your home area and take screen shots of the submission just in case. technically you have submitted a complete application at this point if you can deliver the form.
