I'm Plat and was in a comp game with Plats and Diamonds, defending Route 66. My team and I were all standing on the petrol station roof, ready to defend from the high ground. Our Soldier 76 was running around on the ground, preparing to defend from there, and no matter what we said to try and get him up on the roof with the rest of us, he didn't listen. He said that standing on the roof was stupid because you just watch the payload go by without competing it, which is what I think the thought process of a lot of people is who don't want to defend from high ground. This guy could not understand that defending from high ground gave us better defence since we can aim low and it's harder for the enemy team to aim high; all he could think about was the payload - forgetting that, yknow, once the payload gets to a certain point we generally opt to jump off the roof and start competing it anyway. So that's my theoretical answer to Stylosa's question about why do people defend on the low ground.

I was about SR2500 and dropped to SR1 just to see how bad it can get and believe me, this is great compared to some games I was in. Now I'm at SR2250, and I recovered quite quickly. The biggest problem about these sub-1000 SR matches is the lack of communication. When I played my "comeback" games it was really easy to turn games around just by communicating. You can get at least 1 person to switch and that can do the trick in many cases.

Stylosa coaching videos are great! They are also best enjoyed at 1.5 times normal speed. Slow down or pause as needed to watch particular plays.

As a bronze player trying to get out,trust me it's rare for people to choose one tank or one healer.Its rare for people to switch,when you find a person or team that clicks keep it.

As a Winston main I kinda disagree with two things you mentioned in the video. First is not to attack, or prioritize, Lucio. Yes he can heal himself, he can boop Winston away and he can speed boost himself. However in my experience lucio has generally been an easy target for me, you can dive onto him and do the landing damage, drop your bubble so that sort of protect you from the boop, and you can do tesla cannon damage to him--although tesla cannon itself does a low damage and lucio can self healing, you can still do quite a lot damage to him if you get the landing damage and don't get booped away so that you can continuously do damage to him.Then if you get booped, or lucio speed boosts himself, you can jump again to chase him, since the cooldown is only five seconds. I'm a low diamond player and I know that's not good enough or whatever but in my overall experience lucio has been one of the easiest heroes to kill as Winston. And secondly I don't think you should pop your ulti only when you're about to die. There are other situations that might be suitable for using ulti, like pushing enemies off the cliff, or pushing an enemy to a corner and trap him/her, which is quite effective against mobile heroes, since Winston's damage is relatively low and for a lot of times you can't just kill the enemy right away and they can run away or get help from teammates, but if you trap them they basically don't have a chance lol. It's also an efficient way to get to the point faster but I guess you've said that in the video so yea that's all I wanna say lol😅 guess I'll be sending you my Winston play sometime and have you analyze it :D

Low-level Winstons drop their barriers as soon as they land because they *think* that's what they've seen pros do--pros who have superior game sense and know where and when to jump in and where and when to drop barriers--and so they think they're using a pro-level strat. When viewers watch pro games, we don't hear any of the communication and coordination and shot-calling going on between the players, we just hear the shoutcasting explaining what just happened. We see the technique, but don't understand what goes into deciding to use it. So you see people in low comp ranks playing with QP mentality (i.e. defending on the low ground immediately outside the spawn because they all think they can get a sextuple kill that way) using what looks like good technique on occasion, but without any understanding as to WHY it was a good play at X moment, but a bad play at Y. Bronze Rank is the 'high school student getting mad at their teacher for telling them to stop drawing anime and learn the fundamentals of proportion/perspective/composition' rank. They've taken the style of more advanced players and apply it without the underlying fundamentals informing the execution, so they don't apply it WELL, and they can't adapt to new scenarios--all the can draw is the same picture of Naruto over and over again and they don't understand why they aren't getting better.

It's counterintuitive to me not to prioritize the Lucio as Winston. Sure, he holds up longer than most other supports due to his healing ability, but Winston can be exceptionally good at taking him out where other heroes have to hit his obscenely small hitbox to kill him. Also, killing a support is always good since it cuts down enemy sustain, right?

Every time you watch a low tier player you said something like "This isn't Bronze gameplay if you ask me." but it is. He makes mistakes consistently. You can't tell them that you don't belong in this elo, because that's the mindset that keeps lower tier players in the low tiers.

When I first got the game I fell to bronze for some time and we were winning with zero healers, team composition has no effect at this rank

As a Winston player, I want to say a lot of this advice is situational, for instance, when you get into higher level playing and everyone is grouped up, like 8/10 times you are going to need to drop your barrier almost instantly.

In Bronze, no one has good enough aim to defend from the high ground. If they defend from above, you can just push the payload for free.

As a Silver player, I can assure you that defending right outside spawn is very common on pure payload maps. R66 is actually the worst for it -- the game breaks down into a series of pointless duels around the train carriages until the defenders are dead, and they can't make it back to the payload until it's almost at the checkpoint. Nobody cares about the gas station roof until after the attackers already have easy access to the stairs. Dorado and Gibraltar are slightly better, because you can sometimes convince people to hold the first high grounds (directly in front of the payload), which are not as good as the high grounds around the first corner on each map but at least it's better than skirmishing around the payload.

"Why are you not talking to your team?". Well, some people in EU that speak English are not native speakers. We might write in English a lot, but our accent is shit and we know that, so we don't need anyone to make fun of us trying to communicate with the team while we're in some butt clenching moment that will make us lisp like some unstable person on heroin. It's just very uncomfortable, especially when you get a team where no one talks back that just makes you feel stupid
