The cool thing is how the characters in tf2(apart from medic and engineer) that have nothing in their kit that benefits the team, can swap something for gear that is entirely team-based so even if by default as the video mentions, soldier does nothing for the team, 1 item swapped to a team support tool suddenly changes everything about him. Tf2 has the ability to do what overwatch does but it does not enforce it, and being able to swap gear in the middle of combat means you cant have a "wrong" loadout or class for the entire match.

I have yet another potential suggestion for the TF2 reactions, and its a special one. The story of TF2's strangest player by elmaxo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FrQJIIbzoyQ.html Outside of that, previous suggestions but i'll still post them for ease of finding sake: Soundsmith's stereotypes series: ru-vid.com/group/PLxEAtgFEr-9mIzn8TllRxQC3WnCwT2N8P Team Neighborhood: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0DJ4P-NFByI.html There are still currently just 4 episodes of this series, there is no playlist sadly. Fishstickonastick's Bad weapons academy: ru-vid.com/group/PLzZfmFwbCT18MszHaSPQ8LLVYMSJ1-ZqT And finally, TF2's spookiest and epic halloween updates by Casperr: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gbUHyrzryh0.html

8:38 being able to slightly alter stats or change kit up just a little, is exactly what Paladins does through its cards and talents system, and honestly it would be great to see a system just like or similar to that be implemented in other hero shooters like Overwatch even if it was a separate mode from core game. Big problem with hi-rez/evil mojo is that the balance from character to character is way too all over the place on how much or how little the cards and talents change a character in Paladins just to attempt to explain the system , every character has their own deck of 16 cards separated into 4 groups, 4 cards in each. character/weapon, ability 1, ability 2, ability 3. you can choose 5 cards to equip per loadout and then you have 15 total points that must be spent with each point used changing a card's level cards are leveled 1-5 with it being a linear increase per level. example card being "on elimination gain {10/10}% movement speed for 4 seconds" lvl1: 10% lvl2: 20% ... lvl5: 50% 6 loadouts may be saved per character and they are equip at the start of a match. along with loadout you then also pick 1 of 3 talents on match start talents will change one aspect about a character as an example i'll use the very simple character, Viktor, and his talents. his kit is basic of basics, you have a full auto assault rifle, can throw a grenade, sprint, and aim down sights. his talent choices give these 3 options 1: recover 300 hp/sec when sprinting 2: rifle now fires in a 3-round burst with a higher effective range and 50% more damage per bullet, but fires slower 3: increases the explosion radius of grenade by 40%

tf2 is a masterpiece and deserves the playerbase that OW has imo. It's a tragedy. If only Valve just put in a proper ranking / competitive support to compliment the outstanding casual experience. (its still there, but you have to seek out the community)

DougDoug admits that he heavily downplayed TF2's team play. Is it less important? Admittedly, yes. Is it totally irrelevant? Hell no.

Well the thing about what you can play on overwatch isn't really true anymore, now you can create literally any game mode yourself so people have made stuff like he floor is lava, climbing maps, hot potato and stuff like that, so that point doesn't really work anymore

Overwatch Vs TF2... feels a bit icky to compare the two. It's apples and oranges imo beyond the fact they are highly mechanical FPS games. People look at the "Customization" of TF2 but I really feel like that is a bad way of seeing it. For the longest time players only had the option of a stock loadout, and when new weapons began to make their way into the game it was exciting, but Valve's design philosophy for them was apparent from the beginning. Take Scout. His scatter gun has six shots, and does more damage the closer you are to an enemy due to more shotgun pellets being able to connect. It's his primary weapon, and primaries are usually the life blood of any tf2 class with some exceptions. Scout is hard to track and aim with due to his movement, so landing those shots up close, as a squishy rat is a challenge without flanking. In comes the force-a-nature. A dual barrel shotgun which has more pellets per shot, reloads faster, and can send your target flying if you fire from point blank range. A huge upgrade you might think, and indeed when it first came out the FaN wreaked havoc on people, until they learned how to deal with it, and more classes got more weapons. While the FaN was a neat addition, it had some big drawbacks from the stock version. You only have two shots, and while you have more pellets per shot, the spread is also much wider. It -demands- you get in close and double tap people to be effective, and if you miss one, or even both shots, well now you are stuck relying on your speed to get you out of a really bad situation while you have to reload, and given it makes you get in close, you're probably not going to get a chance to before you get punished. Just about every weapon aside from stock is a side-grade. It does some things better, and worse than the base design, but the fundamentals of how the class works don't really change... except for demoknight and maybe sniper with the huntsman... and trolldier. But aside from that, virtually every loadout in the game is going to have the class playing the same way they normally would, but with certain advantages or disadvantages depending on their personal playstyle and the situation. Soldier is gonna lob rockets, heavy is gonna go Brrr, and spy is going to go for backstabs while trying to sap engineers buildings. The fundamentals of the class don't really change, just how effective they are at doing it and the path they go about it does. In truth if you want the most balanced and effective means of playing any of the classes, especially as a new player, just roll stock.

Also, sorry, long-winded reply above notwithstanding, there is a TON, of awesome TF2 stuff created by the community. A long time ago Valve basically said "Go nuts and consider our characters and assets public domain for creators." and people have done so ever since. Team Neighborhood is a great one done in the old gMod animation.

I find Overwatch to be way less mechanical than TF2, that's a big thing and reason why I didn't like it that much And I'm not saying "you need to learn to time three buttons to reach effective jump heights or else you're not worthy", although TF2's mechanics do feel more engaging and of player agency. But it's mostly about the fact that the more ways players can execute an action, the more they have their own style. So everyone's movement style in TF2 looks a little different, and in addition it allows for more rare situations that call for a certain level of skillful execution, such as escaping through a small window via an explosive jump in TF2. That requires the correct timing for the jump height and careful strafing, which simply isn't going to happen in Overwatch where every form of jumping is a mere button press that is always the same every time and where moving in the air is just pressing a movement button

@@Thornskade Oh by far and away the mechanical ceiling for tf2 is far higher, but that boils down mostly to the physics engine in-game and how exploitable it is. Valve sees those wonky attributes within the engine as a feature, while things like that in Overwatch would be insanely frowned upon and demanded to be removed from the game for the sake of balance, which again, is one reason I don't really like comparing the two. Their philosophies and tone are just so drastically different.
@Thornskade
@Thornskade Год назад
@@Kamenari37 They actually took most of it from Quake. And they did remove things like bunnyhopping, so the actual "exploits" have been mostly removed. It's less a question of philosophy and more of being factually incorrect. TF2's physics were designed for player agency, not exploitation. Some exploits exist, which are not intentional however, it's just a complex engine that can have oversights. Sure, it's a different philosophy, but for Overwatch I'd call it "appeal to the lowest common denominator". By removing any sort of complexity and giving every player the same movement capability at all times at the press of a button.
@Nikotheleepic
@Nikotheleepic Год назад
It's ironic how low the skill ceiling is in overwatch. A game that takes itself way too seriously for what it is, when you compare it to a game that doesn't take itself seriously at all but has amazing complexity and depth of mechanics
