Hi Daniel am looking to get the W2 kit and am wondering would it be worth waiting for a Meepo belt drive system or is this as good as it gets for budget belt drive options. I am on my Meepo V2P still Loving it but would not mind eventually switching to e belt driven boards, thanks in advance.... Milan 😁
To me Ownboard is underrated, I mean most of the time few people talk about this brand but to me they really do an excellent job while trying to not be too expensive. Great review but now I want the W2!
I really enjoyed the video bro. Great job! Simple to the point and visually appealing. You hit all the points that matter to me in a review. Not just the specs that manufacturers give but how it pertains to real world and comparisons to other boards. Great job
Ordered w2 in March, it arrived only in May. The battery died on the second ride. The truck went bad as well. Waited almost 3 months for replacements. The new bushings rattle and the washings don't fit. There's a gap between the status display and the enclose it sits in. Any splash gets through there, and through the top also (between the foam and the enclosure). The wires inside the ESC enclosure are protected from water with a tape. It's an amazing board, but only if you get a good one. If you get a defected one, be prepared to spend A LOT of time and energy to get anything from them.
i really love my w2 with w1as swapped deck. been riding 20-40km a day the last month now.. really wish i had gotten the kegel pulleys tho, they incl them like a few days after mine was sent to denmark :D also great video Daniel!
Nice! My W2 is arriving in two days and will be a nice upgrade from my current Ownboard W1S. I was going back and forth between the W2 and the Meepo NLS Pro but finally settled on the W2 because I've never had a belt driven board.
What a great video review. I acknowledge that it isn't as refined as a boosted but I feel it is a much much better value especially with your discount code. Even though it has the generic hobby wing remote IMO without the boosted app it's just as good as the boosted remote minus the trigger. You get so much more than a boosted at a much better price.
hmm board arrived a week ago, and i don't have rubber ring and also come unstuck grip tape. But otherwise the board is excellent. Ownboard should seriously raise quality control.
Mr Daniel :) Love the new format of your videos (fells more "refined" and I like it (not that I didn't like your other videos). Excellent review, thanks for taking the time to create it.
this review is really thorough and good. Thanks. I have been wanting one like this since boosted first came out. I was hooked on evolve one day, but can't justify price. I see this to be the one I'll probably go with. What's the major difference between this and the AT with cloud wheels? Do they have similar road feel, or is the AT far more comfortable?
Want this for college. Is it good enough for class to class travel? I looked at the fixing belt tension and it seems way too complicated haha. Is there like a charging stand or something to charge it
I actually rate the customer support due to corona virus it was delayed but sally was there all of the way answering any questions fast considering the huge time difference but yeah I’m happy to say my ownboard w2 is arriving today.
OKAY !! I'm watching Ownboard W2 from prototype stage - and now I really think that I will get one \ it simply fits my budget \ or BANG for my BUCK $$$
Awesome and thorough review! Thanks Daniel! If only streets in the U.S. were as nice as the streets in China. I really like the board, i have an Ownboard W1A hub motor, its rough riding on the streets here. But its held up over the past 2 years or so. I am debating on the W2 or an all terrain board. if only they made really small tires for boards like this. Maybe someday.
The major downside of an AT board is its portability, but how much that affects you might depend on where you live. I imagine it’s much more of a hassle in places like SF or Manhattan and not much of an issue in suburbs.
@@DanielKwan no the rocks get stuck in the belts, like embedded, I have to dig it out. I think it's because the w2 doesn't have shields like the boosted
As always amazing review/vid 🤙! BUT LESS flex than the Wowgo 3? Then there's something wrong with my Wowgo 3 or Ownboard W2. My Ownboard W2 is super flexy. My Wowgo 3 is much stiffer, though it has more flex than stiff decks like Koowheel/Kooboard, TeamGee H9,...
@@DanielKwan yeah, that's what I was thinking. Because W2's deck is AMAZING 😱! If it had the enclosures and finishing touches as the Ownboard 3, then this board would be the t*ts 😅. I'm going to contact Wowgo 3 for this. My W2 is super flexy and a joy to ride. Just ordered my Kegel pulleys and my Cuagama's and Zealous bearings are waiting to put on 😎. Thanks again for a great vid amigo 🙌🤙
Any idea why they changed the belt covers? A list of changes/improvements and reasons behind them would be awesome! I purchased my first eskate (the W2) based on your coverage. Thanks!
Yeah don’t know why they made that cosmetic change. The other changes, off the top of my head: battery, clip to hold motor cables, detachable pulleys (Flywheel), both trucks, Kegel pulleys, extra set of wheels... I think that’s it. There might have been other minor stuff. Oh and there’s now a logo on the ESC enclosure.
@@DanielKwan +1 +1 +1 make this comparison!! It's the two boards that I have in consideration for my first board purchase, I'm probably going with the Wowgo.. But this one is definitely my no.2
@@DanielKwanI love the handle on my boards. I have the W1AS because of your review video. I still love that board and ride it regularly. Thanks for the accurate reviews.
Daniel I’m with you on the breaks!?!? I think That the more you pull the wheel back the harder the break should get and if you pull it back all the way the wheels should lock up.
No discounts for Backfire at the moment, but if you use my affiliate link dkwan.com/backfire and keep your email receipts, I’ll send you some stickers later. I’ll have more info about that soon.
Great review! Would you pick this or the wowgo 3 for rough city roads? It's gonna be my first flexy board, figured it'd be good for rough roads, but i hope i can still take either up to speed when i want to.
The option to go with any style wheel is good. I have the wowgo-3, the wheels are not only soft but wide and with the flexible deck it eats bumps pretty good.
It turns fine. You can always make it turn more by adjusting the trucks and/or changing the bushings. It has a decent amount of flex, similar to Boosted Stealth (tho I’ve seen others report more flex). I think choosing the right wheels will do more than a flexy deck for bad roads tho.
Great review as always. When you said less springy than the stealth was that good or bad? Sounds like with a bit stronger motors and better looking enclosures this would be the perfect and real alternative to Boosted.
We need a WowGo 3 (flexi deck, orange soft wheels, Telemetric able HW ESC, LED display Remote) with the Onwboard W2 beltdrive, and that Samsung 40T 10S2P 60A able battery...
Is it possible to change the wheels to AT wheels? I'm thinking of getting the W2 dual belt motor kit to install it on my backfire G2T but I would love to have AT wheels on it
Traffic looks pretty intense over there. You may want to consider getting a small mirror for your helmet (just like ones commonly used with cycling. 🚴♀️) those little bikes that are everywhere there won’t sneak up on you.
WowGo 3 would probably get you up a hill more quickly, but W2 should get you up more hills (assuming it’s able to get up those hills). Hard to say for sure...
great review but your point about torque of belt vs hub is wrong. you might use a bigger motor in a hub to compensate but pulleys on belt drive give a great mechanical advantage.
Daniel Kwan, I am ordering a w2 for myself and ownboard is asking for a picture of the actual credit card price deduction. They say I can cover everything else up and just show the w2 transaction, but this is still weird to me. They said I have to send the picture before they ship the board, just wanted to know if this is your experience too or not. Thank you for the great videos!
Daniel Kwan Thanks so much for the reply, I feel much better paying now. Happy holidays and keep up the great videos. I love the quality, no bs, and great humor. You’re definitely doing something right man.
He doesn’t have a review of nls pro so I don’t know how it compares. From what I have heard the nls pro has a pretty good ride so that eliminates the one advantage to this boars
I think it's because Meepo wouldn't send just anyone a free board. John Paul's es8 YT chanel has all the great V3 videos, currently the top 3 fastest board he's ever tested.
I wish this board was out when I bought my Boosted Board, I could have saved a lot of money... hopefully they make a budget bamboo all terrain model for around the same quality and price.
Bnory ownboard has pretty bad customer support reputation. You can see a lot of posts on reddit about it. I think the boosted board was still worth it since you can always count on the company. Hope you have fun with it!
I have not tried it but it seems like a good improvement over the Vestar V2. If comparing with Ownboard W2 be sure to check the battery and wheel options.
I have a question, i am looking to get an electric skateboard and boosted is too expensive. And l am on a tight budget 600 $ max, which one would you say is better this board, or the backfire g2 galaxy?
If you could only keep one board, and one board only.. Would you go with the Wowgo 3 or this one? (Wowgo 3 with better battery, 120+ dollars for Molicel 8.4 Ah battery) The Wowgo do become slightly more expensive with this though compared to the W2. But if money is not part of the discussion which one would you go with
I have a question about battery. My ownboard w2 is showing 0% battery and still can ride, is that have anytging to do with voltage, because display is showing 32V and 0% battery?
I bought a w1s sanyo version last year but since then i was always looking for a way to put custom wheels on it. So now, can I upgrade my w1s to a w2 with an upgrade kit? Can I just get the belt motors or do i have to change the esc as well?
I do like everything on this longboard but not a deck, how do u think, could i put some solid top mount for this motor and battery? (Sry for bad english)
Oh that I don’t know. You should consult Ownboard about that. I don’t think you can point the motors backward with the standard kit but maybe they have another solution. And then there’s the ground clearance issue for the battery case.
@@DanielKwan Okay thank you man, you halped me a lot! Its becouse the city when i live has a lot of downs, and i dont know if it will be comfortable to do downhills with this flexy deck :)
I asked the boss guy about that after seeing the Reddit posts. He said those trucks were from an earlier batch and the current trucks have indentations that lock the mounts in position. Pic: www.patreon.com/posts/28701035
Daniel Kwan hi Daniel, I’m fairly new to eskates and I’m thinking to get one of the Chinese budget skates. Which models should be the safest or what ESC and controller should I pay attention on?
Alex K. Look for something that uses Hobbywing’s ESC and take into consideration what your roads are like. I think Backfire G2 Black would be a safe choice for most first-time eskate buyers.
So don’t sell my slowly aging and value dwindling boosted v2 xr and buy an ownboard? I’ve never got anything close to 20 miles on my xr and I just use it for cruising
Personally I would prefer the Boosted. The brakes are so good and there’s like no lag at all in the controls. And batteries are swappable. They really should update that remote’s charging port though. 😄
Daniel Kwan man that charging port is such a joke. I bought my boosted used and almost panicked because I don’t have any electronics that use that style or usb anymore.
Their customer services are joke they sent me a scratch up remote and blame it on the shipping defective like seriously it all protected with foam poor customer service don’t order their boards you been warned
OWNBOARD SUCKS SO MUCH i ordered the carbon AT on the 18.10. and till today the board/package still hasen't cleared the customer clearence in china... so my recomendation would be that you dont order anything from them because they are clules and they suck a lot... had no problems with meepo and backfire, meepo even delivered a week earlyer also the customer service sucks, and all they have are empty promises...
Stop the clickbait and those horrible "sneak peak" intros dude... This ain't TV. I'll just skip to the part I wanna watch (and NO I won't go back to watch the rest, which I would otherwise...) A very bad strategy my friend
