You all know I love (loved) the Ownboard Zeus. You know that it is (was) my go-to board.
How is it really holding up after 800+ miles?
Was it worth the money?
Is it a new boat anchor…or is it still ridable?
Watch and see.

Hi, great job on the video. I ordered one of these. I can't wait for it to show up.

Nice! I might go for the Zeus Pro as my next board. I might wait and see if they come out with something new though. I'd love to see the Zeus bamboo 1170wh battery on the Zeus pro carbon. I'm currently waiting on the B-One Titan X to be delivered.

Thank you, and glad...actually, VERY glad...to hear yours is holding up so well after 800+ miles. After getting my first Esk8 (Backfire G2 Black 2020 Edition), which I regret to as "a great short -distance runabout", I decided I wanted something with a (much) greater distance capability...something that would be useful for longer-distance group rides (the SF Bay Area has a few Esk8 & "personal electric vehicle" groups). After considerable research, I had narrowed my choices down to three boards (I'm sure you, and others, can guess all three, so no need for me to name them). In the end, the winner was the Zeus (there was no Zeus Pro...yet...but, more on that in a minute)...and, I love it (though, admittedly, I still haven't been able to participate in any group rides, primarily due to my job). About my Zeus - it's sorta-kinda a "cross" between the OG & Pro. At the time mine shipped, I can only suspect that Ownboard hasn't yet decided to sell a 'Pro' model. Why do I say that? Because mine came with the 'Pro' ESC. I suspect they were considering 'updating/upgrading' the Zeus, and were installing the newer components already received from the manufacturer...but, just have realized that they could offer an 'OG' version at one price, and a 'Pro' version at a slightly higher price. Anyway, since then, I decided to "upgrade" a few of the other components to the 'Pro' parts - namely, the base plates (with pre-installed Riptide livid cups & bushings), motor mounts, and hardware. Guess I could refer to mine as a Zeus Semi-Pro...lol. Anyway, seeing how well yours is holding up, that gives me confidence that, when I got the 800+ mile mark, mine should (hopefully) be building up just as well. Thank you, again. Keep up doing great videos, and providing great (unbiased) information. 🤙🏼

Great response. Funny you mention the BF G2. I have a G3 too. Ya, it is a hub motor with about 18 mile range, but I actually love to just cruise around on that board. I also use it for younger guys or even kids that want to learn to ride. Very mellow board to start out on. Right now my two go-to boards is the Zeus and the GTS Carbon. LOVE those two boards. Waiting on the replacement battery for my Hurricane. Once a working battery is in it, I might change my mind a little. I have been on a couple other fully working Hurricanes, and do like the board. Mine is just doggy slow. The battery is supposed to maybe arrive this week. We’ll see. My Pro is to arrive today. NOTHING workwise is going to get done after that arrives. Going to kill me to leave in box for the unboxing vid tonight. Glad to see you are enjoying and rocking the Zeus. It is a great board in my opinion. Thanks for the view and comment. Really like to hear what others have and have to say about what they have. Ride hard…carve safe…and have a GREAT day!

@@esk8unity Dude, you are so FKN killing me! You are building my suspense of the Pro arriving today. Do love me some Clouds though. Hey, have you reviewed the Zoobombs (111)? Kind of curious as to your thoughts. I have been rocking them on the Zeus OG the last month and am really kind of liking them. One thing I have noticed is that with the larger contact patch, they do have an occasion to tug you from side to side on rougher surfaces. While I like the Clouds, I do like the traditional skateboard look of the streets. Because of you, I have been checking out more street wheels…ca-ching ca-ching! Eating into my ESK8 budget man! Do appreciate your viewpoint though. Would love to have that ESK8UNITY carve though. You got it man! Later Dude!!!

⚡ *I like this different style of video* ⚡ I hope you keep makin BOTH styles. I'm a fan of long term follow up reviews like this, riders get a better vantage point. Will be great to see you compare this with the Pro. 🤙🏼🤙🏼 I think the Zeus would do great with Verreal Mad 105mm wheels (similar/same as Boosted 105).

Please compare in depth a side by side of the OG ZEUS AND THE PRO!! PLEASE PLEASE. I have a Pro ordered and just leaving China via freight ship. I'm so freaking excited I'm losing sleep. I've had 2 years experience on electric boards and 20 years of boarding in general . There are no other comparison videos of these 2 boards so I and others would really appreciate it. Thanks so much. P.s. what are the wheels you guys are referring to . The street ones. ??

@@kyleeagen9223 Hey Dude! My Pro arrived yesterday. I swapped out the bearings, checked all the bolts, charged the board and took it for a ten mile ride while stopping every once in a while just to check bolts again. Initially, I like the board. There is a difference in the trucks. Felt more like a DKP truck setup to me while actually being a TKP setup. I noticed the brakes are a little more responsive than the OG. Seemed like it had a little more acceleration. I always go a little light on any board the first twenty-five miles. After that "break-in" period...I throw all I can to it. LOVE the oil slick look! Yes, there will be a comparison of the two. Hoping to do that in the next two to three weeks. I want to get about a hundred miles on the board before I dig into it with a vid. As to street wheels...I am generally referring to the Cloudwheels 120mm. I also run the Zoobombs 111mm. My preference is the Cloudwheels.

Looks good 👍. The Atlas is holding up about the same too. The only differences I've noticed is the Atlas's grip tape is coming up and I've noticed some drop in battery capacity. Nothing crazy but after 738 miles, I've probably lost a mile or two of range.

Nice! Do you have the 2WD or 4WD version? I wouldn’t mind having the 4WD version. I have heard it is pretty sic and rides very different with 4 wheels pulling. What kind of mileage are you getting with the Atlas on a fresh charge? Kind of curious. These boards today are amazing to get that kind of speed and riding time without pumping like we do on the popsicles. Thanks for the view and comment. 🤘🤘🤘🛹

@@esk8ooligan 2wd, which for me was a better option for range. A buddy of mine has the 4wd one though and yes, that sucker PULLS lol. It felt a bit weird in comparison to the 2wd though. Maybe if the power is set to 100% in back and 80% up front it would fix that slight issue. The 2wd for range for me (220 lbs 6'3") if I'm riding aggressively usually sits around 20 miles or so. Conservative range is more like 25 miles or so. I'm excited about the Pro version that Exway just released. They're about to give it a removable extra M. Cell battery pack, which is supposed to give it ridiculous range.

@@mjdelucia1990 Dang Dude, you just debited my ESK8 budget account with that information. I have been toying with the idea. Right now I have boards from Backfire, MEEPO, Eovan, Onboard, and Propel. I might have to pull the trigger on an Exway. I appreciate the info and insight. The Zeus Pro is out for delivery...needs to get here soon. About to burst!!

How often should the bearings be replaced or greased? Mine has made the clicking noise when turning at certain angles some times, it sounded like it was coming from one of the belts or truck bushings. And with the bigger 6" pneumatic tires, what's a good tire pressure to run for street use?
@esk8ooligan
@esk8ooligan Год назад
Hey Dude...great questions. As for cleaning, that really comes down to what kind of surfaces you are riding. Dirt...clean more often. Pavement/concrete...less often. I clean my bearings twice a year at a minimum on the ESK8s since they get a lot of miles and higher speed miles. I use the 93% rubbing alcohol method with a blowdryer. Some bearings won't be able to be cleaned as they are sealed. I use the Bones Speed Creme lube. After the bearings have been dried with a blowdryer, I let them sit of about 24 hours. Then I put three drops of Speed Creme in them and replace the rubber protector. I then re-assemble the wheels. Have been doing that for years on popsicle boards and now do on ESK8s. Have had really good luck and have only roached a handful of bearings over many many years. Remember, on the rear you have three bearings. Two wheel and one hub. Hub bearings are larger as they fit the 10mm portion of the axle. As to that noise, what style of hubs are you running? Plastic? Aluminum? If plastic, there is a chance that the bearing could be shifting in the hub when putting lateral pressure on the tire. Plastic hubs will creak a lot. Also, watch that hub bearing. I have roached one of those before on my Zeus OG. Seems to always be the right rear hub on that board. Pull the bearing and see if you feel any resistance or flat spots in the bearing when spinning it in your fingers. If not, clean it, and put it back in. Probably just lateral hub pressure causing the creak. If it is a clicking noise, that very well could be a bearing. As to tire pressure, you should follow what is on the tire. Usually for off-road, you want to have less pressure so that something like a stick or sharp rock does not puncture your tire. On the street, you can generally run close to if not full pressure. By running full pressure, you will have less resistance at the nadir position of the wheel. Less pressure will create drag and use more of your battery. On my AT tires, I usually run the highest pressure recommended on the tire. Hope that kind of helps. Let us know what you found out. Ride hard...carve safe...wear that protection, and have a GREAT day.

Oh another question. If anyone's knows of the results of the pro vs like a hurricane or hadean off the line in acceleration. I've seen a comparison viideeo where the Zeus OG is kinda getting smoked off the line and I'm wondering if the Zeus Pro does any better off the line against either of those boards?? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated 🙏
@esk8ooligan
@esk8ooligan 2 года назад
Great question. I don't have a Hadean, but I do have the Hurricane. My Hurricane is down with a sub-par battery...new battery in on the way. Even with a bad battery, the Hurricane is a torque monster. Once I have the new battery, and if it corrects my issues, then I plan to compare them. Keep in mind, my Zeus Pro arrived yesterday, so I am not through my break-in/setup miles yet. Right now, from what I have experienced with my Hurricane and Pro...I would have to give the Hurricane the advantage in acceleration off the line. BUT, there are so many variables when comparing that...tire size, hub tooth count, battery charge level, speed mode...even down to the tightness of the belt. Your question is great...I am just not an off-the-line acceleration guy. I love speed, carvability, and acceleration during the ride when I need/want it. We all have our riding styles and some boards fit those styles better than others. Let me get my new battery in the Hurricane, and then I'll try to remember to come back and give you my thoughts on the Zeus Pro VS Hurricane. BOTH, are pretty damn good boards. Thanks for the view and comment. Ride hard...Carve safe...and have a GREAT day!

My zues pro on first 25km session my bearing on rear wheel failed, it was making a funny sound, I tightened it then got on it and instantly the bearing collapsed no metal balls inside even ... not impressed with the quality although I was having lots of fun the whole time, thankfully it comes with 4 extra bearings but it's not inspiring ... thankfully also it happened near home otherwise imagine walking 25km home with a 40lbs skateboard lmfao ...
@esk8ooligan
@esk8ooligan Год назад
Dude, sorry to hear that...really...trust me, I know what you mean about carrying a 40lb board. One guy asked me, "Aren't you supposed to be riding that?" Now that is when the benefits of a 40lb board come in handy. He felt the full impact of a 40lb deck. Just fkn kidding. My left rear hub bearing went out pretty quick, but then I started using the Uxcell Deep Groove bearings and I have not had an issue since. Not sure why it is just the right rear. I actually think the quality is pretty good, and I am a person that nitpicks everything. Not saying you aren't. I thought they did a pretty good job. I am starting to see a slight drop in the battery, but I figure after that many miles (almost 1k now) and that many charges, there should be an expected drop. The deck and trucks have been great. Motors are still hanging in strong. Right now the Zeus OG and the Eovan GTS Carbon Super are my two main boards. I did get the new battery for the Hurricane, and have been doing a lot of miles on it. Be sure to share more insight into your Zeus. We all can't agree, but it is always good to dialog to share info. Thanks for the view and comment!

@@esk8ooligan so the bearing collapsed caused the rear metal gears to grind on the pavement for a few feet enough to take the teeth out anyway asi was going slow when the bearing blew out... anyways been using the cloud wheels since and Ownboard is sending me extra bearings and a new AT gear for that wheel. They should also include some sort of manual or quick start guide with something this expensive other than that no complaints so far but I haven't done as many miles as you.

@@patricks1251 Dang Dude...you were a little lucky on that one and not getting thrown. Glad you didn't. Glad Ownboard is taking care of you. I just got the new baseplates for my Pro. I now have the Riptide 93A bushings in. I am a little concerned about these kingpins. I am already noticing deterioration on the new ones and they only have about 50 miles on them. Watch those threads on this kingpins. I plan to take the Pro out for a good long ride after the football game. I need some serious ride time. Too much work and not enough skateboarding makes ooligan a hooligan. Keep us up-to-date on those new parts Dude.
