Thanks for the review. I bought the jacket last year and found it to leak like a sieve. Took it back and it was returned to Oxford. Found to be defective and replaced. The new one (so far!) has been waterproof albeit only up to about an hour or so of heavy rain so it might be worth taking it back.

Jock Biker. Thanks for the revue. I also watched The Missenden Flyer's review on this suit and as a result bought one in late April for a six week tour of The Balkans. I found the suit comfortable and waterproof in light rain and even in a heavy downpour of 30 minutes to an hour. I live in Australia and we can get heavy, monsoonal type rain all day long. I wore the suit over a two day downpour and found it's true quality - disappointing to say the least. The jacket leaked around the sleeves and the neck. The trousers were a disaster. Wet through! My summation is: the suit is fine for light rain and a short heavy downpour but it is definitely not up to an eight hour day of riding through tropical, monsoonal rain. I have never owned a high end suit like Klim or Rukka so I don't know if they would have faired any better. But then I only spent £450 on the Oxford Mondial suit not £1500+ like some others. The old adage - You get what you pay for. Anyway thanks again for the review.

Just to qualify, what I mean by waterproof ish, is that it is not guaranteed waterproof. The times when it leaked was torrential rain over a 7 hour period when away at a camping weekend in Skye and an trip from Edinburgh to Bristol again in nasty rain all the way. When I say leaked I mean a few wet patches not complete failure. It is a great suit for the money and way better option than carrying waterproofs just in case. Hope that helps.

if it's not cold ,jacket sound ok, hope so i just ordered one,if you are doing 7 hours in british winter weather, go by car, i think anything would leak in 7hrs rain.

What about trousers? Are they waterproof (30-60 min of rain) and ventilated enough ( several hours of driving)? My r1150r hardly protects my feet from getting wet.

yes, the jacket and the trousers are waterproof got the jacket online ,when i was happy with the jacket i got the trousers from newport, i wore them home in the worst rain ever .very dry and worm, i think they come with 1 or 2 year guarantee, , i cannot compare these to any of the other top brands as this is the first real good quality i have had. and i would buy again. now is no need to check the weather beforehand.watch the black ice and i see you out there.

Thanks for the review, if the suit can cope with most of the weather Scotland can throw at it then it must be pretty good! Quick question on another topic... you said you ride a GSA but have a 29” inside leg. How do you cope with the seat height?
@JockBiker
@JockBiker 4 года назад
Mark Mottershead lower chassis, touratech extra low seat. Both feet down, just. One of my other vids covers that.

Mark Mottershead. Did you buy the suit yet? See my comments on this review. If you have bought the suit I hope it works for you. One tip that The Missenden Flyer said, ditch the liner and get a good quality down puffer jacket, it will keep you much warmer.

I live in Florida. All we get are torrential rain storms! Problem is, here in Florida you need a jacket that vents. That's just not possible. Best jacket I've got for both water resistance and venting is my Fieldsheer Sugo. Not really happy with Fieldsheer's new offerings though. Thinking of getting a Firstgear TPG Ranier on closeout though. Other than that I have a new set of frogg toggs I have yet to test, replacing my Olympia rain gear.

Wabbit1961 I’ve been in Florida a number of times and if I were riding there I’m not sure what the solution would be. Depending on your budget and preference I would want the guarantee of gore-tex, something like Klim Badlands, just a shell with decent direct vents. The problem being the heat...

Jock Biker - not a Klim fan. Brother had a few pieces that just don't impress me and even he can complain about it. I think here it's just best to carry rain gear. The Firstgear TPG Rainer I can get on closeout for $150 US. D30 armor, light. Maybe buy REAX rain and thermal liners for it. I'll let you know what I do. That said, most rain pants (in this kind of rain) give you wet crotch in less than 30 minutes because they saturate through - rain proof be damned. A shame because functionality-wise I love my Olympia rain pants. Super wide leg openings with large Velcro to snug down over boots. I'll see if the new frogg toggs fair any better. I do have silicone spray but it can only do so much for older garments. Daily rider here, rain or shine, so rain gear might last a year or two. Then it's just been stretched out too many times to be as good as new.

I have the 3.0 set they were fine for two seasons but now leak very bad, so bad I have purchased an over suit ti keep the water out, in light rain there ok and warm in the winter but heavy rain rubbish

Hi there, does the water ‘bead off’ the top layer of the jacket or does it ‘wet out’ (get saturated)? Great review btw Many thanks
@JockBiker
@JockBiker 3 года назад
It saturates in. The waterproofing is “in” the material rather than a layer on the surface like say a 3 layer pro shell rukka with gore-tex. so yes the jacket does get wet.

Nice review actually better than that pap TMF, of course he's gonna give it a good review, so would I if I got it for free. I'm considering this suit myself as I've just tried the jacket on here in Dundee but I'm not sure anything is 100% waterproof in torrential rain for 7 hours other than a car.

Nice little review. And from someone who actually spent his own money - don't forget the chap mentioned at the start got his free of charge from the manufacturer so I'd take his opinion with a pinch of salt...

Hi Ian. Thanks for the comment, although it was a bit confusing. Just to clarify, I did buy this suit and completely unbiased opinion.

@@JockBiker No I realised that. I was referring to the MissendenFlyer. I always think that people who get given stuff for review may be a wee bit less critical than those who buy it with their own money. Anyway, I bought a set of these myself and agree with your findings. Mine are waterproof on my normal hour and a bit commute, but if I'm out all day in heavy rain I slip a thin rain jacket over the top. I use a Revit H2O.

I've been looking at this jacket based on TMF recommendation, so thanks for your honest review I'll probably give it a miss now. I'm also in the market for a good 100% waterproof jacket, so, just a thought, did you ever try out the Oxford Hinterland Advanced MS textile tri-laminate jacket, or any other transaminates? What do you think of them if you did, too stiff, etc?
@JockBiker
@JockBiker 4 года назад
Yeah. The mondial jacket and suit are good, but not a proper laminate jacket, hence I’m looking for a new suit also. Never tried the hinterland. I think the normal laminate jacket such as klim, Rukka, Rev-it etc are all too stiff and cardboard like. Unfortunately I think you have to look at £1200 plus for a good laminate suit, hence I would be doubtful about the hinterland. If you have the cash look at hideout leather, they do a custom made textile laminate waterproof suit but it’s expensive.

@@JockBiker Cheers. I've just got into biking and picked up my bike the other Saturday, 25th July, from Smiths Honda over in Chester, and then headed back to Liverpool - I only got my CBT the week before that ride! Never mind the cost of the bike, I've spent a small fortune on clothing and a decent helmet!

soulrebelno1 yup it’ll get you. You’ll figure out what’s right for you and how/when you ride. All the best.

@@JockBiker I got the Merlin Columbia Outlast Textile jacket from SBS the other week for half price. Great jacket, but don't know how waterproof it is, it was touching 30 degrees the first time I went out for a ride wearing it! It has two small vents, a waterproof liner, and loads of pockets, it'll be okay for the autumn, maybe even winter? After roasting all day, I decided to buy a summer mesh jacket, so I got the Icon Anthem 2 jacket. Both of the jackets came with full armour. I've got an old two-layer Gore-Tex jacket, and the Icon Anthem 2 fits nicely under that, so I'll think I will take my time and look for a bargain, that's if I need one. I'm doing all right on the biking front, I bought a brand spanking new Honda CB125R because it had some cash off the RRP. It's lovely little naked bike; I've been out for a few rides on it, and done some low speed practice in a local car park. I'm still getting use to a wet clutch and sequential gears after driving a car for years! I'm going to go for my 'A' licence via the DAS route, and eventually get a bigger bike, fingers crossed. Anyway, you stay safe, cheers.

You said the jacket only leaked down the arms and neck roll. So the material is waterproof, but the water got in where the neck didn't close fully, and the wrists?
@JockBiker
@JockBiker 4 года назад
Hey - Absolutely, around the neck where there us a gap and you would expect some water ingress. The wrists were closed fine and no water got in there are they over my gloves. The leaking point was where you bend your arm and through the seam that is there. Haven rode all winter with it on, it is great in the cold and some damp conditions, but i did get caught out on a recent rider where it leaked on the arms again. I will be changing suit next summer for the winter months, already talking to Hideout Leather to get a custom made textile suit.
