I opted for the Montreal. Couldn't be happier. Live in Florida. The jacket gets heavy which is noticeable when you take it off, but it never once soaked through. I guarantee it rains harder here than you're used to riding in. Mine has a pull out hood but I've never cornered with it... Lol. Going on three years now and it's never failed. Still looks great too.

Hi Nathan, it was great to meet you at the NEC last week. I was there on the first Saturday, we talked about the Matlock ride, I have the old KLE 500. Will be interested to see what you make of this kit, and hope you get the trousers to test as well. Hope to book a tour with you next year and look forward to the next video.

Been using old Klim latitude jacket(bought very well used) for a year and it's been great. Couldn't afford new prices so this Oxford kit is defo top of the list when it's time for a change. Watching with interest.

I think this outfit looks great and a superb price too... and a 3 year warranty, if it is as good as we hope, then it's going to burst the market wide open. At that price, you could use it for the 3 year warranty, bin it and buy another, giving you 6 years of warranty and still be cheaper than a Rukka. Really, Really interesting kit. As for the size, you'll probably find when you sit on the bike with it, it'll be just the right length as in it won't bunch up like some longer jackets do. Also if you haver the trousers too, they'll probably sit much higher than your jeans, giving you more coverage there. I'm looking forward to a 'first impressions' after a day out in our crappy weather. Looks great though! Cheers, Michael.

Ha! Just bought one of these this week - the last S in the universe apparently. First impressions are good. V comfortable, good fit (a first for Oxford for me...). Agree with your neck comment - it is too low. Otherwise a nicely thought out bit of kit, great detail and functionality, and great price. Always after one jacket to rule them all... Hope this delivers.

Bering have just launched a couple of laminate 2-piece suits - one with and one without Goretex. Motolegends are raving about them - but then they do about everything they sell. But they look nice and a bit more subdued in style next to the Oxford. Good to have a bit of choice lower down the price range.
@rickp4864
@rickp4864 5 лет назад
will M yes, it gets quite amusing when every jacket they sell is the best one! But, joshing aside, they are one of the better shops out of the ones I’ve used. On jackets in general though I think the laminates are the way to go - especially now more and more reasonably priced options are coming out. But personally I want a nice looking laminate with no armour which I can wear over my armour of choice - currently Knox. Sadly though it seems motorcycle jacket design is mostly stuck in a time warp to me.

Hi any update on how the Oxford kit is performing In real world terms ??
@Navin.R.Johnson
@Navin.R.Johnson 5 лет назад
I have been using Olympia gear for a while now and have been pretty pleased. However the waterproof-ness of their gear is somewhat short lived (unless I'm supposed to buy new gear every other year?) Klim is absurdly priced, but I hear it's good. However, I feel that for that price it shouldn't just repel water, it should ensure the sun is always shining on my rides. So I'm interested in what I would consider 'fair' priced gear that is waterproof. I'll definitely be interested in the outcome here. One thing I didn't hear you mention, ventilation. For it's shortcoming in the wet, the Olympia 3/4 length jacket has amazing ventilation. It also has 2 way zippers for when it's really hot, so I can zip down from the top and zip up from the bottom opening the jacket even more while retaining it's protection.

@petergoddard1960
@petergoddard1960 5 лет назад
Looks to be an excellent choice given the daft prices you can pay for gore tex laminates. The Missenden Flyer has had a suit on test for a few months and rates it highly. I’m wavering between this and some of the Adventure Spec gear although they still haven’t brought their waterproof layer to market yet. My main concern is that the Oxford has sufficient lower leg room for a more substantial boot (in my case the Forma Adventure) which is a tight squeeze in my current budget textiles.
@nathanthepostman
@nathanthepostman 5 лет назад
Yeah I saw the missenden flyer has had a suit for a while. I gather he also had a tie in with Oxford previously so I'm taking his review with a pinch of salt at the minute. But a good call on the trousers and whether they have room for adventure boots. I would have imagined so. You'd hope at least!
@petergoddard1960
@petergoddard1960 5 лет назад
@@nathanthepostman Yeah you would hope. I wouldn't go for the suit unless I had a chance to put this to the test first. As you say, it doesn't make sense to have the waterproof layer on the inside and a heavy outer layer sodden with water. I think the layering approach used by good quality outdoors clothing with base layers, insulating layers (as required) and a waterproof outer is a far better approach, even down to what layer contains the armour, and I favour the approach by the likes of Forcefield and Knox here (albeit the latter on a more urban slant), that is without resorting to full compression hard armour from the motocross world. Having the armour less likely to move around seems sensible and frankly an obvious approach that most if not all manufacturers are getting wrong. Up to now its been a a price point issue. From budget gear all the way up to the mid expensive price point (your RevIt Sand 3 being an example) this backwards logic has been peddled as a catch all solution, and it doesn't work for prolonged travel. It's fine if you return to a warm house with the ability to dry your kit, but when on the road for multiple days or weeks it all falls apart very quickly. Oxford have brought a laminate in at a more 'mortal' price point and they are to be applauded for that at least. Having said all of that, I still suspect that I'll go for the AS Atacama Kit, Forcefield armour and use my trusty Richa Rain Warrior jacket and Trousers over the top if its tipping down. Here you are, once again, playing guinea pig for us less bold procrastinators out there! One thing is for sure, I'll take your opinion as a good honest one any day!
@peakrider4886
@peakrider4886 5 лет назад
Yes it would be interesting if they have put some thought into the trousers based on the popularity of adventure style apparel. I have to wear my TCX adventure boots over the top of my current textile trousers which isn't preferable. Like the jacket though, Nick Sanders has been wearing the green one on his last epic trip across Europe to the Far East. Whether there has been any Oxford sponsorship involved I don't know, but knowing how Nick likes to do these journeys completely unsupported, his kit has to do its job or it's his life on the line.

How are you doing with this jacket Nathan??
@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
You might weigh it against the RST for comparison. I have the RST Pro jacket and agree it has some weight on it. The Oxford does look a little short too.
@thewoodster8607
@thewoodster8607 5 лет назад
I was going to go for that RST jacket but Ride mag tested it at the same time as the Oxford jacket and found it leaked at the arm zips. What's your experience in this respect mate?
@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
@@thewoodster8607 - RST Pro - had it 3 years and about 25,000 km in mixed weather, a lot of it wet and downpours. No leaks whatsoever, not a single time, warm and comfy too but it is weighty compared to these new laminates. I don't want to exagerate the weight, it doesn't get waterlogged or anything. Didn't go for the matching trousers, just found them too bulky but that might just be me. The thermal lining is easy enough to put in/out but no choice on removing the wet lining, that is stitched in. I think for the money the RST Pro is very good value, loads of pockets, internal and external, enough vents etc. It has an excellent quality storm collar but in reality it is pretty useless (like all others) because it restricts head movement far too much, either over or under the chinstrap. If I thought about it again I might look for a jacket where the thermal lining can be used as a casul light jacket. My other half has the old model Triumph jacket and the thermal layer can be worn as a stylish top which is a bonus, the RST liner is too rough to do that. I did purchase it from a shop that had massive stock and all sizes to try on, it made such a difference, I could have had any of three sizes but only one was really comfortable, mail order can't match that. I did have a popper break off, RST was zero quibble, back to the dealer, they shipped it to RST for repair who shipped it back to the dealer (who offerred to post it back to me). Didn't cost me anything and I appreciated the zero fuss, it was no bother at all. I think that stands to the company and is a good response considering its price. Met Nathan in Dublin last year (or was it the year before?) and bought his book, top guy, very easy going all round nice bloke. I would trust his reviews so look forward to what he thinks of this jacket as time goes on. Let guys like Nathan pick up on all the areas that might be improved, wait a year or 18 months and buy V2.0!

@nathanthepostman
@nathanthepostman 5 лет назад
Yes I'll see how I get on. In two minds at the minute. The jacket doesn't have the latest CE protection stamps on them and neither do a lot of other bike stuff so I'm non-plussed about trailing stuff that some argue shouldn't be on sale. It's a whole minefield of technical jargon. I might just stick with that army surplus jacket, which I gather is Airforce issue and I just got it from an army surplus place just outside of Hereford.
@BorisKarloff66
@BorisKarloff66 5 лет назад
@@nathanthepostman cheers for your quick reply, regards the CE protection can't you just add your own CE level 2 into it, I gather it does not have a back protector, this is probably a cost cutting excercise. On a side note a number of my riding mates don't worry about crash protection, they say I'm not going to fall off. I I the other hand prefer proper protection CE level 1 minimum. I'm now looking on eBay for that air force waterproof
@nathanthepostman
@nathanthepostman 5 лет назад
No, It's the garment itself that as of April 2018 has to be CE approved. So the actual jacket has to be tested for abrasion etc. A lot of companies are arguing that it came in without enough notice and speaking to Oxford yesterday they claim the jacket is built to the required standard but that it doesn't have the stamp but will do as of April 2019. They're not the only ones not to have the stamp and it seems a huge legal grey area. In principal though anything without the stamp shouldn't be for sale. Obviously the jacket will be as good as any other I've worn and I'm not questioning its quality. It's just a huge can of worms and I'm not surprised Missenden Flyer didn't mention it as he's had some connection with Oxford in the past and maybe it's no big deal. @@BorisKarloff66

Jacket is warm, waterproof and its cheap for a laminated without DWR treatment. It has as a waterproof membrane laminated to the outer liner called dry2dry with a 10000mm hydrostatic head which is less than 1/3 of the 28000mm not 3xs more expensive stay dry for 11 hours shifts under heavy stormy rains (not 2 or 3h like this one) goretex pro laminated 3l membranes. This jacket because it doesn't have a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment on the outer liner soaks up loads of water and stays wet for 2 to 3 days depending on your house's temperature. Sent back and will never buy a non laminated goretex pro jacket without a DWR treatment on the outer again as without this it gets soaked and takes 2 to 3 days to dry without using the heater as required which is not good for professional every day use but for an occasional sunday greenlaning outing should be fine. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for the technical explanation Marco. That makes sense as I certainly found the same and it needed a lightweight waterproof jacket over the top to make it usable day in day out.
