Hi, so ... I'm a mechanic, I work in aviation, and I deal with nitrogen quite a lot. It turns out that nitrogen is useful in tires, the nitrogen molecule is larger so it doesn't leak through the pores in the rubber as easily, so tires lose less pressure over time. Nitrogen in tires causes a lower fluctuation in pressure in regards to temperature. The machines that pull nitrogen from the air also removes condensation and therein prevents corrosion of wheels and tires, no air inside the rubber prevents oxidation of the rubber, When nitrogen is used in car tires the nitrogen is replaced several times to ensure that its up to 95% pure. We use nitrogen in every aircraft tire. Thank you for the video, was just a little bit i thought you might enjoy.

This is definitely facility, unit, and/or state dependent. I’m an ICU nurse here in the US and I’ve been able to stick for my ABGs quite routinely (along w/ RTs, attendings, residents). The consensus seem to be that if you’re a nurse/doc in a critical/emergency role...then it means you can be trained to draw them (I’ve also been trained to use iStat as a point of care gas analysis). 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hi Thank you for your video! I have a question about something that is been confusing me so much and I haven’t found an answer to, when you say PaO2 in blood is that in the gaseous state or liquid state( dissolved)? If dissolved then how come it’s 100 mmHg and the solubility of oxygen is only 0.003? Also I read that the partial pressure of oxygen in plasma is equal to the dissolved and undissolved oxygen does that mean (100mmhg of oxygen + 100mmhg*0.003)? Thank you very much in advance.

@chad1405 3 года назад
As far as I understand, we say SpO2 when we use non-invasive methods of haemoglobin saturation methods (pulse oximetry) and we use SaO2 with invasive methods (I guess, ABG and similar stuff). I would guess that SaO2 is a bit more accurate but I see these things being used interchangeably.
@anushreejagtap6163
@anushreejagtap6163 3 года назад
SaO2 is the same thing as O2Sat. SaO2 is measured when arterial blood is drawn whereas O2Sat is measured using a pulse oximeter so it's not as accurate. Sp02 is the same thing as O2Sat - they're interchangeable :)

To confirm anything you would need more tests . If his oxgen sat 02 is low and his pa 02 is high there could be a few things wrong. It could be a sign of infection, heart condition like a heart mermor,medication reaction allergic, flu ,really many thing there is not a perfect diagnose without more test for a real patient . You would need allergy checklist ,vitals, urine check for high protein ,blood panels for lab anisyise ...

Hello dr. Thanks for the video. I have a question about “the shifters”: so if i were to go to a place known for its high temperature, & i get a pulse oximetry test, will my oxygen content be theoretically less than 97% (since there is an increased ‘giving of o2, so less would be in the blood)??
@johnstewart8849
@johnstewart8849 4 года назад
So, if I use an oxygen concentrator to get to 30% inhaled oxygen, I would be shifting the curve to the right? Are there any risks? I’m thinking more oxygen to brain, heart, lungs is a GOOD thing, no??

@MedicosisPerfectionalis
@MedicosisPerfectionalis Год назад
To insure that passengers are being transported to their destination, you need to take into consideration: a. the number of taxi cabs available (Hemoglobin concentration or Hb), and b. The occupancy of each taxi cab, meaning whether each car is fully occupied or not (Hemoglobin saturation or SaO2). Having good saturation per car, but less total card available means that less passengers overall will make it to their destination (i.e. anemia).

The hemoglobin itself. But, please remember that when the patient has anemia, RBC count, hemoglobin concentratio, and hematocrit may all be decreased. So, there are many factors at play

Medicosis Perfectionalis so the amount of RBCs wouldn’t contribute to the capacity of carried oxygen? And I understand, this is just something that has confused me for so long.
@MedicosisPerfectionalis

What contributes to the oxygen carrying capacity is: RBC mass (Hgb, Hct, RBC count) and Hemoglobin saturation. All these things need to be normal for an optimum oxygen carrying capacity.

It should be carbon monoxide poisoning as there is decreased saturation of oxygen n history of headache n tiredness So ill go with co poisoning Correct me if im wrong

If hemoglobin is low obviously saturation also shd be low right?? Please explain
@MedicosisPerfectionalis

Not necessarily. Think about hemoglobin particles as taxi 🚕 cars. Each one has 4 seats for passengers (saturation). I can have low number of taxis, but every one is fully saturated. Hope it helps!

This means that the PaO2 we say is just because of the dissolved oxygen in the plasma right?

Yes! The plasma of the arterial blood.

Does 98% oxygen saturation mean that 98% of hemoglobin has four O2 bound to it, and 2% of hemoglobin has zero O2 bound? Or is it more like ~91% of hemoglobin has four O2 bound and 9% of hemoglobin has only three O2 bound?

Hi, thank u for video When we say SaO2 is 97 percent do we consider one hemoglobin that should be attached to 4 O2 molecules Or We mean out of whole amount of Hb that we have in blood what percentage of it is attached to O2 ? Please answer my question im so confused.
@MedicosisPerfectionalis
@MedicosisPerfectionalis Месяц назад
The whole amount of hemoglobin and the whole amount of oxygen on the hemoglobin averaged out.
@HodaWali
@HodaWali Месяц назад
So do u mean when we answer the question what is SaO2 ? And I answer for instance 97 percent I mean from my 100 percent hemoglobin 97 percent of them are saturated with O2 And also somehow my one molecule of Hb is saturated by 4 O2 molecules Cuz u said the whole amount of Hb and the whole amount of O2 on hemoglobin so we answer both of them simul taneously?
@HodaWali

U siad the whole amount of oxygen The whole amount of oxygen on one Hb (which is 4) or the whole amount if oxygen on all hemoglobin in blood?

Why SaO2 and O2HgB are not equal if both means the percentage of Hgb that is carrying O2

It’s not a mathematical equation. It’s intended only to show the parameters and factors that affect the result.
