Mine listen as well although quite often. I'm 62 n they're 30 somethings and now they are fans too. So when I'm not playing their vinyl my neighbors are. And yes vinyl from my teen years.
These guys make me feel lucky to live in the Ozark Mountains. Growing up, I heard them play all around this area. And their music is now truly classic. Very cool.
That brings back such good memories when I was about 13 in Bolingbrook Illinois listening to all the new music .my friends had older siblings. They listened to yall. So I loved it. Being from south eastern KY. I never knew music. Or heard it. It's still the same ol feelings. Pease and Kindness..Robin
Well, I guess us old codgers can be thankful you young un's got to hear and appreciate some decent music. :) Even if you did hear it first in a game... at least you did hear it. Some of the best music made was from this era.
Alan Kelley well you're not wrong. You're from the generation I should've been born in. I'm 24 and heard Nine Pound Hammer's cover of this song. I never heard of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils until now and everything I've clicked on has been right up my alley. Anything classic rock, southern rock, outlaw country, and bluegrass front hat era is my kind of music.
Back in the 70’s I definitely remember this music! I’m 49 now, but when I was a kid, my first stepfather had this vinyl...this and Chicken Train are the ones I remember!!! I hadn’t heard this stuff in AGES...but suddenly tonight I remembered the riffs from Chicken Train, so I ran to RU-vid...and OH HOW GOOD IT FELT to hear this stuff again! Seeing now that they also did this song - man, I feel like I am back together again!!! GREAT memories!
I quoted this song to my Mom once when I was in my teens and getting chewed out for being too...rowdy. My Mom, the daughter of a Baptist minister replied "Oh really? Well you keep on acting like a fool in this house and I'm going to provide you the opportunity to find out!"
The irony here is that I loved this song as a teenager. I grew up and I still so love this song...and I became a Baptist minister. And I still think this song is awesome. It takes me back to my youth.
I'm currently deployed and in that time I was doing some genealogy and maybe related to one of the band members. Also I didn't realize it until reading the comments playing GTA V as well. I may have heard this song and not even realized it! This band is good whether I'm related to Michael "Supe" Granda(?) or they have one song in a videogame. I would suggest you guys checkout more of their music! Their entire show on Old Grey Whistle Test 1976is incredible, I'm just learning about them myself. The reason they didn't blow up was they chose to not move to Hollywood and leave their home and families behind. Very respectable in a day in age where people would sell their souls to make it big!
im sure that this comment will be reassuring for many out there. I am an 18 year old, and i LOVE music like this! this here is what i like to call, REAL music. not this new age stuff that has no soul, no feeling in it what so ever. as long as i can, im going to keep this music alive! like their album, ALIVE! haha
I'm in band with 2 other brothers and we still enjoy slipping this song into the set list on occasion. Lots of fun and the Southern Rockers love it...........
I see that several of you have referred to OMD as a Southern rock band, Well, not really........think Jackie Blue here. They are, much more specifically, an Ozark Mountain rock-fusion band. This is a music found only in a few counties of southwest Missouri, northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma. Started in the 70's, continues today. The Daredevils did a reunion last year in their hometown of Springfield, Missouri and were as good as ever. Everyone was there except Dr. Brayfield. Awesome!!
Man, We had the best. Lord I miss it. The Southern Rock seen was just killin it. All us Southern Boys raised HELL! Thank You for postin. I'm callin for a coalition to petition all of our beloved Southern bands to go back down to Muscle Shoals, Lock the doors ,Don't come out till ya got somthin that rocks our asses off again! Now give me a beer and a hairy little beaver!!
1974, I believe. I was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado when I first heard this song, and I fell in love with this one & "Chicken Train". They just don't make music like this any more, and that's a shame.
This brought back sweet memories. First band I ever saw live, over 4 decades ago. Haven't seen or heard the Daredevils since but often think about that Grey Whistle Test concert in London. Thanks to a friend for evoking those memories.
I heard this song on Supernatural series, OMG! I fell in love with it and I searched for it on SpotiFY. Its catchy! Why have I not heard it long ago???? Good song guys!!
i have some friends from my home town that did some shows with OMD back around78 ,79 or 80 in flordia.''RIVERSTREET'' was the band. and they told they had a great experience with these guys and they were very humble and talented players. came driving up to the gig in a couple of ford pick-up trucks and a ford econoline van. unloaded their own equipment and set it up with maybe one roadie. sounded great and played even better.
Wow brings back the good memories. I saw them in 1980 at a little place in Tulsa called the Cain's Ballroom. People were siftin seeds off the budweiser trays and rolin j's! They had every kind of instrument you could imagine....even the washboard!
I'm 52 , my brother is 51 & we've always played " who sings this , lol , this was his go to song to trip me up , but I'm on to him , lolol I live 2000 miles away now & I'm still raising HELL !
can remember going to see these guys back in the day i was in the army. had weekend cq duty had paid another guy to take my place so i could go the the show but didnt clear it with the 1sgt boy did i get my butt chewed out that following monday the had to do cq duty for a month but have to say iot was worth it
CQ better than cleaning pidgeon shit off the fire exit steps. Miss the 70s. Miss the Air Force and miss my late husband. We met in the Air Force. He from GA and I from TN. Married 32 years. We shared our love for the Daredevils, riding back roads and doing things we shouldn't, especially while in the Air Force if you smell my smoke.
As a result of living next door to these guys on Monroe Street in Springfield in 1970, a musician myself, I ended up with a 1.2 GPA at then called Southwest Missouri State. I remember playing my recorder with a couple band members. I also remember playing pinball with lead singer we called Superman. I turned out okay eventually, but would not trade those wild times memories for anything wholesome. They rivaled Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, I also had the privilege to hear live.
What a fantastic memory drinking beer, skinny-dipping at the old swimming pond listening to OMD. Wore out the old 8 track tape this was on. Great concert at Kansas City breathing in all that wonderful smoke that was floating around.
May I say Thanks to my Brother Lance Hubbard to introducing me to these guys several years ago he is now in heaven at just 52 I want to thank him an send this song out to him for sharing his love an amazing knowledge of all kinds of music. With me Tommy His little bro...
Still love these guys! I wore out an LP, then wore out the 8 track, then wore out the cassette, then....yep...wore out a cd! (someone scratched it and I freaked cuz it skipped on all the good songs..yeah, all of them!) It'll Shine When It Shines, my all time favorite album!
One of my favorite pick me up songs. I saw the daredevils in 1980 at the Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa Okla. Had a front row TABLE! We used the beer tray to do some seed sifting! They had it all going on that night, first time to see someone play the washboard. They don't make music like this anymore, a true folk, rock icon.
Same!! I literally stood there and watched him dance his ass off for like 8 minutes straight...I even let him live cause I enjoyed the song & that was hard to do since I was Trevor & it seems like a no brainer to kill him after lol
Hey Randle Chowning ..... lol we are cousins; my grandad in Springfield , told me “ his brothers son was in this band” we were very close hope you and yours are well
Oh yeah.. remember seeing them live, great show! One thing I remember was a old hound dog on stage with them.... asleep in front of a big speaker! always wondered if that dog gone deaf, lol! Great music!!!!
