This is another great example of how good the music was in this time period. These long-haired mountain boys were good. Very creative and tight.. A darn good band! Fun music with good sprirt. AND they were fun....
Tight, indeed ! All these 70s bands sounded AMAZING live. In fact, the records were just a recording of what they already were doing live; not something patched together in ProTools by a producer, today.
RIP Steve Cash. I was fortunate enough to share the same stage as him at festivals several times and he was always super nice to us "young-uns"... This is an awesome song - I will never cease to smile when I hear it come on the radio! I think you got to heaven there buddy!
When I moved to Rogers, AR in 1991, the area of Springfield and points further south were just 100 miles from us and we went there a lot. We loved going down there and spending the weekend.
octogenarian here and this is on my list of my 50 favorite classic rock tunes...........it has been one of the mantras of my lifestyle. and i did my share without harming any one. life's been good.
@@tomchrisfield7348 : Your response made me laugh 😆😆I’m assuming you’re very young as was I when this song came out. It’s ok , I don’t mind listening to “weird” 😆😆🤣 “Enter an alley “? Nah, you probably already have the best spot taken
Seen Head East for $2.00 in Centralia, Illinois at the Teen Center 52 years ago. "Supe" gave us a ride to the the Venice Cafe. He was gonna sit in with the Garbonzo Band. Supe was sitting in with Bill Davis of Dash Rip Rock at the B.O.B.
I believe there may be a silver lining if the world don't get blowed up for young people of all ages and Sexes to understand the Melodies of the 60s and 70s and how they changed the pop culture back then? There is plenty of opportunity to understand and create
I saw them in Houston many years ago. They put on a great show. I was surprised they didnt become as well-known as some of the other bands of their time. They certainly were as good as at lot of them who were better known.
Rip : Steve Cash (May 5 1946 - October 14 2019) An original & founding member who co-wrote thier two biggest hits, this one, thier first hit at No 25 in 1974 and 'Jackie Blue' at No 3 in 1975
I was born in 65 I thank Christ I was able to experience the greatest music ever from the 60s 70s and 80s Life was good in those decades...Rock on people
My second all-time favorite band, second only to the Dead. These guys very nicely straddled the line between pure hard rockin' and soulful country/folk rock. Other bands occasionally exceeded them (e.g. Pure Prairie League's Amie) but absolutely nobody delivered as well and as consistently as OMD. This particular song I hear almost every day as it's part of my iTunes shower rotation.
I was lucky enough to see these guys at the Illinois State Fair, playing in the Stroh's Beer Tent for about 75 of us back in the late '80s. They're gave 150%! True professionals.
1978 or 79 I saw them in Rapid City, S.D.. Opening were two guys on banjos playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown. I was hooked on Bluegrass and Country rock and roll ever since.
When you learn about old-school country and blues music, you can really hear where the harmonica and guitar and honky tonk piano came from. Add drums, plug in the guitar and bass, and you’ve got this glorious Southern Rock !
Same Man, I'm 20, though. But I live in Missouri, and the Ozarks, too, and they formed the band super super close where i live. And there a awesome band. They sure don't make good music like this anymore. I'm "oldschool" but I'm gonna get a harmonica soon to learn just this specific song. I love it that much. I'm a guitar player. And still want to be. Thats my main thing is guitar. But I do want to learn how to play the harmonica just for this song. 😂😅
Anyone else ever see them at The Great northern Bluegrass Festival Mole Lake, Wisconsin?! during the 10 year period i went I've seen them at least 20 times plus other venues. Partied with them at Blister Sisters Cantina! The crowd would explode when they played this song! "Mole Lake, Mole Lake, Mole F-N Lake! great guys and great musicians!
Funny thing is,I have heard all these old classic songs for years but it's only now, thanks to posts on RU-vid that I see them for the first time. Bands didn't make many videos back then until MTV started .
I had this track on a "Southern Country Rock" compilation cassette tape I bought at Walmart back in the early 90s. I liked this song. I'm going to explore their other discography now here on RU-vid. The band members they all look like daredevils!
I was 18 and myself and 2 friends went to our local watering hole ,well I went to the jukebox and put in 4 quarters and pressed H-8 16 times 4 songs per quater ,If you want to get the Heave , By O.M.D.s and let play . The Bar Tender and Owner caught on after around 6 repeats . He ask me want the hell did you do. I said I like this song and laughed .He let it play maybe 1 more time and the unpluged the jukebox , That's just too much of a good thing he said , We all had a good laugh . I will always remember that day,and I think of that day all those years ago every time I hear this Great Song .
Just love this song and band. Remember when it first came out. Running barefoot hippy. Yep. Loving a lot of bluegrass music in Western Pa. Beaver Fall.
Oh yeah: very tight.. I do remember them. I live in Virginia back in the day we listened to them. and now you know why it was not Oliver Anthony who sort of falls in the genre of Virginia music is similar to the Ozark Mountain boys.. my own mother played steel guitar and a banjo.. I love it. :) thanks for the reminder.
60-70S MUSIC REMEMBER IT WELL WHEN I 1ST STARTED TO LISTEN TO IT IN THE 1990S(WELL BORN IN THE 70S SO HARD FOR ME TO LISTEN TO IT IN 70S HA,HA) Great music that still hold up(will hold up forever)
These guys were just starting out, and played a free concert at my high school auditorium. I don't think they even had an album out, but maybe. I went to see them at the Cowtown Ballroom, KCMO.
When the Time comes, and They send that car to pick me up... I'll climb in and shut the door and not look back. And as I head Home, listening to that old 409 roar... this song will get us to the Gates. Amen.
