My Dude, thank you for all you do. Tripped over your channel early in the pandemic and it has been great. Keep the love turning and burning. (Also love this song!)
With all due respect to the brilliance of Jackie Blue, this is the REAL Daredevils. I miss honest, real country-rock like these guys, the Flying Burrito Brothers, early Eagles and later Byrds. If you haven't reacted to it before, I'd recommend "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" by the Byrds, off their masterpiece album "Sweetheart of the Rodeo".
Sweetheart of the Rodeo was the first album I ever purchased more than a half century ago. I had been a Byrds fan, but it was “You Ain’t Going Nowhere” and that steel guitar that dragged me reluctantly into country rock music. Been there ever since. RIP Gram Parsons.
Oh wow! I haven't listened to OMDD in decades! Always loved this song! This band was popular during the 70s. This song was released in 1973! Thanks for the reaction, Jamel! 💙✌
Jackie Blue is a wonderful song, but completely different from this one. GREAT harmonica riffs. If you like harmonica. try "Fox Chase" or "Train, Train" by Blackfoot. Your ears will weep.
My wife and I went to Nashville this summer and went to the Grand Ole Opry and much to my surprise the Ozark Mountain Daredevils had there Opry debut that night. They played their brand new song then "if you wanna get to heaven" what a treat! Have loved that song since I first heard it on the radio.
I saw The Ozark Mountain Daredevils in concert last week. Great music and a great time. Lots of fun. They've added Molly Healey on violin to the show, which makes them better yet. The show had dueling violins and violin and harmonica dueling. I know how much you like cow bells, they have a song called More Cowbell. If you get the chance look up Chicken Train live.
Yay!these are my hometown boys!!! They just played the 4th of July concert at the National Mall in DC. I’ve been going to their shows since my sister took me for my 16th birthday. Their biggest hit was Jackie Blue. The harmonica is the late great Steve Cash. Good bunch of down home hillbilly hippies!
Born and raised in Missouri... Raised on Ozark Mountain Daredevils and raised hell my whole life. Great band but very underrated. Those of us raised on southern rock have many gems in our back pocket like OMD!
I love to hear my husband singing this and the guitar he played on here is great! You should check out more of his music. My Old Band is a GREAT song. He's got new music out right now. Lots of great writing. Thanks. Jaynie Chowning
If you want to see them live at their peak, check out (on RU-vid) their 1976 performance on the British TV show Old Grey Whistle Test. Fantastic blending of rock, country, mountain music and 70s singer-songwriter styles. Chicken Train has to be seen and heard to be believed.
"I'm The Only Hell (Mama Ever Raised)" Johnny Paycheck. Does that qualify Mama for Heaven? This song came out in '73 I think. But they are still kicking. I am wanting to go see them on the 29th if I can make it. I saw them a lot in the 70's and 80's with my mom and dad. I didn't get notified when this one dropped, stupid YT. Great reaction, thanks for the memories. Have a great week.
See, this is one(of many) reasons I love your channel. I’ve never heard this song before and knew I’d like it within that first twenty seconds of the song.
You’re in for a treat if you chase down more Dares tunes. Love these guys! The did the Rock cruise with The Who this year, played The Grand Old Opry and did the July 4th concert at the National Mall in DC last week
FINALLY someone does this song. This hit FM rock radio when I was a freshman in high school. They have a few other hits but this was always my Ozark favorite. Let the music play!
Omg! Thanku so much for playing this song Jamel! It was such a get up and dance and feel good song back in my teenage years.!! I'm not sure if they are still touring still or not. 70's!
Man I love your channel. My Mommas family is from the Ozark Mountains and my Dads family is from the Ouachita Mountains, both here in Arkansas. I was born and raised in the Ouachitas. Love you giving love to us Hillbilly folk. Im gonna go through your Playlist, but if you aint done em yet BLACK OAK ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!
Black sky also has fantastic harmonica. Beauty in the River is like going to church when you see them live. Also love Country Girl, You Made it Right and It’ll Shine When It Shines
The harmonica intro is my phone's ringtone. Was in line at the grocery store and my phone rings, i answer the call and told the caller I'd call them back in a few. After i ended the call the guy behind me in line said he wished id never answered the phone because he wanted to hear the whole song, he hadn't heard it in years.
Love Ozark! Thanks.. 2 other similar bands, and a great driving song is "Two Lane Highway ", by Pure Prarie League, and also an unheralded band is Goose Creek Symphony.. "The Corn Won't Grow, So Rock and Roll".. both are excellent.
Excellent! Haven't heard them in years, thanks Jamel! I've been away from your channel for a bit, following other rabbit trails, but I'm glad to be back! You got me through the dark days of the pandemic lockdown and your spirit and vibe are still necessary. Peace man!
Glad you are doing some music again without getting blocked. Great old tunes I forgot about. Thanks Jamel! I appreciate you bringing me the memories and keeping the great music alive!!
I never like to burst bubbles but... through the 🎸/harmonica solo the drummer is doing a simple quarter note 🎶 pattern on the ride cymbal 😮.. not the cowbell. Love your love for the cowbell
OMD is a great band and has so many good songs, try: Look Away, Noah, Walking Down the Road, Fly Away Home, It'll Shine When It Shines, Fools Gold, and more, a good live version of their early music including this song is on UK's Old Grey Whistle Stop, A little known fact on OMD, from Spring Field Missouri, yes from the CCR era, early 70s, and of course, what is great is for a while they had Rune Walle, a Norwegian playing banjo
First time I saw the Daredevils live they were recording a live album. They had 4 guys that sang lead on different songs. 3 or 4 of the guys played several instruments. And it was fun to see them move around to different instruments between songs. Great harmonies, fun show. Also the crowd came to party. There was so much pot smoke in the air you got a contact high, and everyone brought wine skins. WHICH check out Homemade Wine, Snowbound, Backroads, Country Girl, It'll shine when it shines and many others.
the Old Gray Whistle Test show is at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9nhSuxjX030.html 41 minutes of greatness, includes jackie blue, it'll shine when it shines, walking down the road, chicken train, keep on churning, if you want to get to heaven, standing on the rock
Hey Jamal check out Ozark Mountain Daredevils were big In the 1970s. Would have liked to see Magic Dick , Ozarks harp player and Johnathan Popper have a harmonica duel on stage together. Magic Dick plays with J. Geils Band. Check out the whole Blow. Your Face Out .J. geils Band at there finest. Can not remember the year it came out but I think it was. In the middle 70s.anyway definitely check this whole double live album out. The last album J.geils Band made before they went commercial was called Sanctuary one kickass. Anything they did in the 70s kicked ass. Peace ☮️ Out
Another group you have got to get to my guy is King’s X. They are often compared to Rush. Alice In Chains and Pantera were big fans of theirs. They are often called the most underrated band of all time. Extremely unlikely you would get a strike from them, in fact they’d be ecstatic if you reacted to them. Do “Over my head” or “we were born to be loved” for starters. They actually made a new album this year that hit top 10 in physical sales, crazy they are in their 70’s now.
