Check out the Oztent SV-5 Max Canvas Touring Tent here:
www.snowys.com.au/sv-5-max-ca...
Create a roomy and protected shelter and uncover area at your campsite with the innovative SV-5 Max Tent from Oztent.
Named in honour of Oztent’s late owner Shane Viglione, this tent features a patent-pending angled frame design which creates a 3m wide front. It sets up in just 30 seconds and has sloped walls for more useable space, plus it's made from 8oz Ripstop polycotton canvas with No-See-Um Mesh fly screens for ventilation and insect protection. A heat-sealed PVC tub floor keeps you dry, a SkyMesh Skylight provides added ventilation and stargazing, and a peaked awning for shelter with a zip-in tarp extension gives you 5m metres of undercover space.
In this video, our gear expert Ben takes you on a walk-through of this tent at the Brownhill Creek Tourist Park.
He starts out with what's included with the tent, plus details on the packed dimensions and weight before moving on to the external features. There's the awning and tarp extension, fabrics and materials used, internal features, how much head height there is, and then he adds a stretcher, king single and queen airbeds inside to demonstrate how you can use the space - so check it out above for all the details.

If anyone is worried about buying one of these, don’t be! I’ve had an RV 3 for yonks. My son-in-law has an RV5. Simple to put up by yourself. Top quality. Highly recommend Oztent.

You really are a bloody good salesman, the passion and knowledge in which you sell other peoples products amazes me, BTW a setup and pack down video would be good and a look at the tent with out the fly, and was wondering if a camping bunk and double mattress would fit inside, curious about bunk height at tapered end, thanks mate

Oh, thanks 2,808,892 views #1 ON TRENDING! We've got a setup & pack away vid here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Spab6rDThhI.html - which also has some shots of the SV-5 Max without the fly (from about the 4min mark). As far as fitting a bunk & double mattress - you're right, the tapered back wall would prevent the double high bunk from using the space efficiently. It would fit - but would take up too much floor space and you wouldn't be able to fit the mattress. Cheers ~ Ben

Such a useful video thanks, particularly for the dimensions. I was interested in this but am cooling on it. Interestingly, if it's 2.8m wide at the entrance, 2.1m at the very back and 2.6m deep, then it's got less usable floor area (6.37m2 trapezoid) than the RX5 (2.6*2.6 = 6.76m2), which I was surprised by. I was initially excited about it but the RX5 seems like a much more usable space being square. Thanks again! ☘

The RX5 is actually 2.4 x 2.6 when you account for space taken up by the internal frame - as Ben has done in this video, the SVMax is actually 3m wide, but he's gone for 2.8m useable space due to the fame. Based on the measurements of useable space, the SV5 floor considering all angels and sections, its around 7.3m2, as it doesn't taper evenly. The RX5/RV5 is based on useable space is 6.24m2 Totally agree that having a squared of floor can be more functional than a taper though. Glad the video has helped! ~ Lauren

I can't believe how flexible and capable these different OzTents are. Something for everyone it seems. This SV5 has serious awning shelter space. There are side and front panels available but no zip-in floor available for the SV5 tent. They just weren't featured in the video. Do I understand that correctly? This is a 3 year old video. Has a zip-in floor been added or has the SV5 been discontinued since the making of this video?
@SnowysOutdoors

The SV5 still exists, but it does not have a zip in floor for the awning, you can get a groundsheet but it doesn't seal at the base. The RX series from Oztent has an awning with walls and a floor that all zip in to create a more protected space, check it out here - www.snowys.com.au/rx-5-touring-tent. ~ Ben

This looks like a great tent with plenty of living space but I am worried this wouldn't really sleep a family of 5 when we're using traditional air beds. Seems as if I am at a cross roads; look for an alternative bigger tent (Zempire 10P) or if we opt for something like this we need different style mattresses. Thoughts?
@SnowysOutdoors

A family of five won't fit with traditional airbeds, you'd need a combination of mats to fit the width. I have an RV5 and need to use a double mat and two hike mats for my children, this setup fits snugly. The SV5 offers more width, but not enough for 5 x standard airbeds i.e. 90-100cm wide. ~ Ben

I’m alittle confused with the number of people this tent could sleep - it’s rated for 5ppl but you can barely fit more than two king single airbeds. How would a family of 4 go? 2 small double airbeds fit? Again fantastic and informative videos!
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 года назад
The way manufacturers rate the sleeping capacity of their tents is not actually very useful, Tristan. You can fit 5 people in here, if they were sleeping on thin mats shoulder to shoulder. In reality a family of four would probably need to use 2 low profile double mats. I sleep in an RV 5 which has a little less room and use a 10cm thick double mat for my wife and I, and two compact 8cm thick camp mats for my children. It's cosy but comfortable. ~ Ben

Wow which to get now RX, RV, or SV geez. No front room with the SV?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 года назад
Not fully enclosed, Jay, if that's an important factory then the RX is the best choice. There are side panels and a front wall available, for the SV though, but no zip in floor. ~ Ben

Yes, it's a dilemma and with certain panels from one type of tent, not integrating with others? I can't help but feel that Oztent have lost their way a little? Just let the RV range do everything: more people would then buy one... Snowys; love your work, as always!
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 года назад
@@DougieL I don't reckon it's that straight forward. By adding new models Oztent were able to introduce new features in the RX and SV tents without making the RV series and their accessories redundant. The RV tents still remain the most versatile though, I reckon. ~ Ben

@@SnowysOutdoors Thanks Ben. Well I am confused as wanted to get an Oztent but am now a little lost... RX is probably the go for my needs, with the two sealed rooms where we can all sleep (fam). On top of that I want two further side panels and a roof, to use as kitchen, sitting outside. I can't see any pics of that with the RX? Is it doable?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 года назад
@@DougieL not quite to the extent that you are after. With the RX you can set up the two enclosed rooms and then extend the panel on the front wall out with a couple of extra poles to create an awning, but you won't be able to attach sidewalls to this. You could consider an RV tent and purchase a Tagalong tent also to create two enclosed separate rooms, then you can use the central space between the two sleeping areas as either open space with a roof or enclose it with optional side panels. Just working this out quickly, the price would be roughly the same and it would create more versatility. www.snowys.com.au/rv5-canvas-touring-tent www.snowys.com.au/tagalong-tents www.snowys.com.au/rv-deluxe-side-panels ~ Ben

Unbelievable, the biggest tent, but you still can't fit 2 double mattresses. Why couldn't they change the dimensions just a tiny bit, so that those fit and the tent is actually usable for a family, I can't understand.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors Год назад
I can;' answer this for you sorry, mifki. I have an RV5 and can fit a double and two small kids mats inside, the SV5 would make this even easier. I guess that by the time kids need a bigger mat they might be wanting their own tent anyway. ~ Ben

No gain over rv5
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 года назад
There is more internal space, Vasko, along with a larger awning, a skylight and an included zip on extension awning. If these things are of interest to anyone then I'd say there is gain over an RV5. ~ Ben

Awesome tent but too small and too heavy for me and the hassle of loading unloading off the roof

It is awesome, but you do need a bit of muscle and a roof rack to transport it. ~ Ben
