Farrister, I don't know what is it about your reviews but to me they are the best out there. It's always a joy watching one of these ship review videos of yours, I think it's the calm tone and pacing.
This WOULD be a 10/10 ship if it had a) some more flares (arena commander) and b) a jump drive... Flying and fighting in it is amazingly fun and it's one of the most beautiful ships in game!
Actually, really like my P-72. I almost miss the days where the big money missions were the claim jumpers. I would fly to the nearest Hur or Cru station store the ship I brought then break out the P-72 equipped with 4 NN-13 Neutron Cannons. I was great fun taking on the loads of enemies and turrets with it. Testing my skill and pushing the ship to the limit. Sadly, the lack of Quantum capability really kills the usability of the ship. Maybe one day there will be a need or use for it but right now it's a struggle to use find any reason to use it. Great review. Keep up the good work.
These snubs are my favorite little ships to do sightseeing runs on planets with, they're just great for that. They're nice little hot rods great for a relaxing spin, and not bad if you want to get into some combat. The lack of a quantum drive is unfortunately a multi-layered detriment though. Obviously you can't get very far in one, but on top of that, the lack of a quantum drive means that the ship effectively has no navigation instrumentation on board. You can't go into quantum mode to even see what direction the nearest landing zone or station is, and if you go flying off into the wilderness of some planet, you're pretty much guaranteed to get lost. Doesn't detract from the fun of flying it.. but you might need a pick-up if you run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere.
I decided today that this will be my 1st buy when 3.18 gets on PU... I just put it the carrack hangar, and here we go! :D Atm I have one full Havoc, and it's really fun! :D Love doing VHRT on it!
@@Farrister Hopefully when the game gets more developed they’ll get gold standard polish pass on those tiny landing pads and add a touch of realism/immersion by redeploying them as vehicle elevators that retrieve inventory from an underground garage!
I love using the P72 for racing but id forgotten it has FOUR size ones! Im definitely planning on putting full distortion on mine to see how she can do😂
One of the best racers in the game. Many people forget that profession, and the potential of earning some good money from it. Since it can be hitched to the connie you can also get to those race missions by hitching a ride. That makes the Aquila even better as it can be used for so many professions. Cargo, combat, exploration and now racing! Im getting one of these ingame to replace my merlin aquila snub for that very reason.
Hello again Farrister. I'm here again tossing in my opinion. The P-72 is a nice little ship. I've had one at one time. I bought it during the St Patrick celebration, and it was painted green. When it came out it had a LTI on it, so that is the main reason I bought it. I later used it to upgrade to a different ship so it could also have LTI. I did fly it a few times, and as you said, it's a nimble ship, especially in space. It was a joy to fly. Of course, the lack of a quantum drive makes it not my first choice in craft. I have a P-52 that came with my Constellation Aquilla, so I don't really need it. I also have other fighter craft like the Arrow and the Gladius, and they do have a quantum drive. I do have two other ships that don't but those are for another time. Thank you for the review, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
Got one when I got Phoenix (aUEC annoyed that the Ursa didn’t come with it as well it was listed). I’ve gotten a bit of use out of it when I’m just using the Phoenix as a daily driver, pulled it out for a few low risk bounty missions. Most amusing use was looking for someone in a cave on MT only way in was to fly so came in very handy there.
The merlin and archmedes remind me of the A wing from star wars. They both rely on other ships to travel long distances, they're similarly sized, they're extremely fast and they both have a similar cockpit design and position.
Actually, real A-wings (Not the Disney shite), have hyperdrives. They aren't reliant on other ships to travel long distances. They can go as far as any X-wing, Y-wing or B-wing, but just can be found on larger ships in squadrons, as well.
I really like these ships and I think their ability to dogfight and maneuver with such high performance is worth the trade off of not having a QD, definitely glad to have one carried along with a Connie.
One serious advantage of the Merlin vs the Archimedes is the center-mounted gatling. If you are doing the 890 Jump mission, you can easily take out 5-6 enemies in the hangar bay before landing and starting the timer. While the Archimedes could use ballistic weapons as well (to circumvent the 2 Size-3 shields of the ship), having a center mount will mean perfect weapon convergence making it a lot easier.
This ship is a blast around orison. And you can use it to fly out of atmosphere on any of the starting planets and get to a station really easily... so long as you can spot the station overhead. No quantum drive means no navigation assist.
But fantastic for immersion, and feeling self reliant to get up or down to where you need to go in a hurry. Also one of the best to fly through rings and superstructure of stations with to blow off some steam. :D
@@Farrister I actually quite like the flight up from and down to the ground. I do it semi regularly. Taking some of the bigger ships down if I don't need to sell feels wasteful.
I hope they give it some small storage space for equipment. CIG said it won't be possible to fly with equipped rifles and possibly even only armor. I see this ship being used for stealth approach to FPS missions on planets but if there's no place to put your equipment that won't happen.

I have 2 that came with the Fortuna package a green one and strangely a white one that was with the green phoenix LOL still havent changed them over . hoping in the next patches I will be able to do that through the mobie glass. it would be great to fly to a planet / moon with the conny and then fly down with the P-72 but like Ollie found out that after some time the conny de spawns hoping 3.18 will sort that one or have a mate just sat in the conny getting drunk at the bar or using the spar ...... oh they dont work yet either LOL
I don't really understand how Krueger fans can tolerate the fact that Merlin is completely useless in atmosphere right now. Not be able to maneuver at speed 180+ in atmosphere is absolute game stopper. Archimedes is a bit better but comparing to Banu or Khartu-al - both Krugers are absolute trash.
The P-72 is a ship I'd love to fly more often but it's a hassle to bring into a situation where it could be used. Essentially the only time I remember flying one was the Ninetails lockdown and that's not an event I particularly like. The only bad things I can think of is the lack of QD and the nose being so close to the reticle. The view is otherwise great but the most important part is obstructed as you might not always be able to rotate due to maneuvering so you can keep the target above. Then again, how can you dislike the best choice for a ghetto carrier fighter?
I've had my Archimedes Emerald with my Phoenix Emerald for years now. (Only 'relatively' recently been flyable of course). But honestly, I never use it when flying my Connie. Mostly because no one wants to, or we just stuff them into a C2 or M2 for training, in my org. Still, I'm glad it came with my ship, and I prefer it to the 52 with the ballistic that can't be switched out for an energy weapon version.
I can't help but think this will be a popular ship when the MMO part of SC is live. They're cheap and you can cram them in on larger carriers. They're what really attracted me to the connie in the first place.
Ive flown every ship in the game and the Connie series is my favorite. The added fun of a Merlin or Archimedes docked when you have crew mates helping with bounties just helps put it over the top. So fast and they are great at distracting NPC ships if your Connie ever needs a break from battle to recharge shields. I justified upgrading to the Phoenix with real $ because I always wanted an Archimedes docked as the 4 bulldogs are far superior to the Andromeda's Merlin loadout and when friends want to fly the Connie in battle I love to take out the snub.
@@Farrister For me its the added windows on the sides and top of the ship that really put it over the top. The views from inside are great and even when you F4 to 3rd person the ship I love seeing inside as well
I was thinking about mocking up a Hercules L2 hangar carrier with room for 3 of these rather than the cargo bay. They would have the single outlet from under the bridge, with room in the back of the L2 for them to re-enter the ship.
You can’t permanently swap the Merlin on the Constellation Andromedas with the Archmedes. The Snubs on Connies are more of a con than a pro, they blow up too easily during a fight and cause hull damage.
I use mine when I go to orison… park the Phoenix in orbit use the snub to get to the planet and back… I wish it had a spot for a box but it is what it is….Would I buy one if it wasn’t included? Prolly not… did I buy my Phoenix cuz it had a snub AND a rover.. he’ll ya.. and let’s not forget the hot tub.
@@Farrister yes you can swap snubs, but you can not store your connie away. Its also sad seeing emerald phoenix owners cant have their emerald snub on their ship, only a standard snub
Fun fact: this tiny thing is roughly the same size as the X-wing. Star Wars single-seaters are really tiny. I really like the Archimedes for some reason, I even specifically pledged to one of these during the last IAE since that's the only way to get one without buying a Phoenix. I like the white scheme and the four weapons on the wings. I have a C2 and putting this along with a few other small ships and ground vehicles is pretty fun.
@@Farrister The fact that I can load up a Nova, a rover, a C8X and an Archimedes to go around with friends and still have space for cargo is crazy. If it weren't for the inconvenience in the case of something happening I'd just fly like that all the time XD I'm so looking forward to being able to spawn smaller vehicles in bigger vehicles directly.
the Kruger ships are my favorite in the verse just based on aesthetics alone. I would heavily consider spending real money again if they came out with more ships from Kruger if they shared the same design language.
If you want to do bounties you just stick it in a Carrack or Hercules, fly to within 30km and launch your P72/52. It's not efficient, but it's really fun.
Mine blew up, the one that comes complimentary with the Constellation Phoenix and im not sure how to get it back or recover it now, it's not there anymore in the Phoenix even after claiming it, nor can i spawn it at the mining centers, thought i might be able too since it's so small. Edit: Never mind, it came back, must of been a bug xD
You say you might want a shield upgrade if you're confident of keeping the ship while talking about its claim timer... you do know you don't lose upgraded components when you claim ships, right? If you're using it in combat it's worth upgrading the shield, no question.
You can keep an eye out for Phoenix sales for the upgrade. Otherwise it's a slightly arduous task of buying the P72, undocking the P52, and loading the P72 every time you want to fly out. Hopefully at an unspecified time in the future, ships will be able to remember better what they have docked
@@Farrister Yeah I have one Pisces, but this single seater snub ship is even cuter that just tailored for delivery missions, if devs add quantum drive on it. Well that will be really fun for fast delivery missions.

It's a shame that this ship can realistically be used only in multiplayer gameplay. Of course, a solo player can come up with scenarios to use it, but it will be artificial, better achieved with other ships.
