Hey y’all & welcome to this Vlog of our P&O Iona Cruise to Norway. In this episode we embark on P&O's cruise ship Iona from Southampton U.K before heading up to through the North Sea into Norway. In this video we will visit Stavanger, Olden, Alesund and Haugesund as well as some days at sea.
We start off by showing you the checking in process at the Ocean Terminal in Southampton. We got dropped off at the terminal, and straight onto the ship, so we walk you through the embarkation process.
Once onboard we explore the ship and take you with us as we head into a day at sea. We will be checking out the entertainment, restaurants, and more that Iona has to offer, including The Olive Grove, the Keel and Cow and Pearl and Coral Restaurants. We also take you with us to the Headliners Theatre, Oasis Spa Thermal Suites, and bars including the Sunset Bar and more… For a full Ship tour remember to check out our channel.
On this Cruise Vlog we will be taking you with us as we explore the towns and cities in Norway. Most we did independently without booking any excursions, with the exception of Olden where we head up the Leon Skylift for the first time! We will be sharing the locations we visit with you, providing What3Words locations so you know exactly where we are heading.
Our first port of call is Stavanger where we explore by ourselves and head over to the Valberg Tower and explore the Old Town. We also showcase some other shore experiences you could take, including a hike to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) and a relaxing scenic cruise along the lysefjord, taking in beautiful waterfalls and breathtaking sights. He also highlight a few museums which are close by and worth a visit, including the Maritime Museum, the Norway Canning Museum and the Petroleum Museum.
We then sail onto beautiful Olden. Here we take part in our only shore experience booked via P&O, a visit the Leon Skylift. We take you with us, on this thrilling ride, up one of the steepest skylifts in the world. With snow still on the ground we explore and show you around.
We also showcase some other shore experience options you may wish to take part in, including the Briksdal Glacier with troll cars and the Kjenndal Glacier. We also highlight a beautiful historical church located in Olden.
Next up we visit Alesund where we have a walk around the town for a spot of retail therapy and a spot of lunch at a local bakery. Alesund is a city known for its art nouveau architecture located on the entrance of the Geirangerfjord which is a UNESCO world heritage site. We also show you an option of climbing the 418 steps up to the Aksla Viewpoint, with views of the ship docked up and amazing views over the city and surrounding area.
We then go onto our final port of call, Haugesund or do we? We show you around the town and taking in the shops and city.
We have also showcased a ‘back up’ port of Bergen. From a previous cruise our final port, Haugesund, was cancelled and we were lucky to visit Bergen instead. We have highlighted some options for you, just incase you find yourself making an unplanned visit to Bergen. Some things to explore on your own include the Floyen funicular and meeting the goats. The views are great from this viewpoint. And we also show you Bryggen and Baker Brun, a small bakery with delicious offerings. Bryggen itself is a UNESCO world heritage site comprising of old wooden structures, and is one of the most recognisable places in Norway.
It’s then back into a Sea day relaxing onboard P&Os Iona, having great food and being entertained.
The big question is did we see the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights) during our bucket list Norwegian Fjords cruise? You will have to watch the video to find out…

Glad to have found your channel, although I'm annoyed that I had to watch that Cinnamon Bun close up right before having dinner - I now want nothing more than a Cinnamon Bun, ha! Looks like a cracking cruise - I'm dying to try the Fjords on Iona!

Hi! Thanks for subscribing, we really appreciate it!… Norway is absolutely stunning! We loved the Briksdal Glacier, it’s well worth a visit. I think the highlight of this cruise had to be the Leon Skylift. The views were beautiful and the snow at top made it even more of an experience. And yes Norway will always tempt you back now! It’s certainly got a place in our hearts! Thanks for commenting and your question :) Pete

We are going on this cruise in 2 weeks. Thank you!. PS is the WiFi package worth it? It's appears very expensive. In one of the videos we have watched they said if u don't buy the package you get 1 hours of WiFi free every day. Is that correct?

Hi… thanks for your comment. Those 2 weeks will fly by now! Not long to go! We personally usually get the WiFi package. Remember that you will need to put your phone on airplane mode whilst out to sea so you don’t connect to the maritime network (this is super super expensive and avoid at all costs!) so you will be disconnected for those 2 days, which may not be a bad thing… We always get a single device package. You can log in and out of it, meaning you can share the log in. I know they were offering 1 free hour on this cruise… this is due to them recently partnering up with Starlink, so it was to showcase the speed etc of the service. I’m not sure if that offer was for 1 hour per day…not that we were aware, and we would be quite surprised if that was the case. Usually the WiFi is cheaper to purchase beforehand so bear that in mind. P&O usually do 15% off offers etc before you sail. Or if you have onboard spend you can use that towards the cost, but bear in mind it will be full price at that point. I hope that helps… Have a great cruise! Pete & Dom

@DomPetesTravels thank you! I might just purchase the package and then turnoff roaming on our mobiles to recover some of the money.
