What is his gimmick about actually

@@zawarudoclock3927 So basically Junpei starts off as a relatively underwhelming character with pretty poor frame advantage, very bad combos that don't do much damage, and not very good neutral. However, his entire gimmick revolves around getting "runs" like a game of baseball. Every time you hit your opponent with any normal or special that uses Junpei's bat, you put a runner on base. This plays out just like a game of baseball where every swing is a single. After 4 singles the first runner comes home and your score a run, every subsequent single will score another run afterwards. Junpei's supers have sweetspots that give him a Homerun, which as the name implies, brings every runner home and gives him the appropriate amount of runs. If Junpei whiffs a bat attack, he gets a strike. If a bat attack is blocked, he gets a ball. 3 strikes gives you an out, 4 balls gives you a runner on base. You also get an out if the opponent hits you, but you can only get 1 out per opponent's combo. If you get 3 outs, you maintain your total runs, but you lose all your on base runners. Runs will carry over between rounds, but on base runners will not. Junpei's ultimate goal is to get to 10 runs as quickly as possible. Once you do, Junpei will automatically activate Victory Cry, a permanent install that gives him the following benefits: - passive HP regeneration - passive meter regeneration and most importantly - bat normals used on an airborne opponent can now Clean Hit. Clean Hits are a mechanic used in many fighting games. Essentially, if you hit your opponent with a sort of "sweat spot" on the move's hitbox, the move will become enhanced. In Junpei's case, Clean Hit moves gain increased damage, significantly more hitstun, and for some of his special moves they gain additional properties. This dramatically improves Junpei's combo game, and turns his damage out put from the worst in the game to one of the highest. Additionally, you don't stop gaining runs at 10. You can have up to 55 runs total, and for every 10 runs you have, the passive HP and SP regeneration will be increased a bit. However, the main reason Victory Cry is so vital is the Clean Hits.

@@zawarudoclock3927 His strength lies in the fact that his runs don't go away between rounds. If you're able to activate victory cry early, you will be able to start subsequent rounds already in victory cry where he's a much more stable character though he still has a few weaknesses. The more rounds you play in a single match (for example i believe most arcade cabinets with this game are set to best 3 of 5) the more likely you're able to get victory cry early and the longer you'll be in victory cry total. He's a pretty bad character due to how much effort you have to put in for not too much of a payoff, but he's still very fun to play.

It's cool but ultimately all it does is relegate Junpei to the lower tiers. Which is a shame because his moveset is so satisfying. You shouldn't have to win a baseball league to be as good as Narukami is from the start of round 1.

It's more of the case of getting the first clean hit of the combo segment correct. If that one is correct, the few others after it is almost sure to be a clean hit without much timing. Rather than saying how difficult it was, it's better to say it took ages. I actually finished this video right before the KoF XIV DLC characters were released but didn't want this video to clash with them.

If anything the sword was handicapping him, this is peak Junpei
