@@commandergoji886 excuse me I’m here to correct you on that. they were decimating the world, not city bro, watch the movie before you talk trash on it*
That plasma “cannon” literally just makes a cool noise and doesn’t deal any damage. Gipsy Danger’s plasma cannon was a literal cannon. It shredded through any Kaiju it came into contact with. This movie doesn’t know what Pacific Rim is
Because the weld had gone through the first endurance, it can't withstand resistance anymore, so it cracks and break apart. Besides, the robot is falling from the outer space.
Year late but it may help you understand how this happens when you realize that it is nowhere near 50,000 tons, it's closer to 2-3000, jaegers are made fairly light to maximize functionality, that goes for the first movie aswell
I think one of the biggest issues with one and two is the sense of scale. Most of the shots of the jaegers and kaiju were really up close in the first one. Add the much slower speeds everything move, and this gave you a feeling that these things were massive. Versus this one where not only are the jaegars typically much further from the camera but are moving faster.
It was the same problem with Godzilla vs Kong. They made Godzilla so agile that he wasn't Godzilla anymore. All his sense of scale went out the window. I mean, if he is THAT agile, he shouldn't need to be Nuke Godzilla to take down Ghidorah at all, just run rings around that dragon. But in the previous film, he was really slow, because he is MASSIVE. I loved Godzilla vs Kong, don't get me wrong, but it had the same issues as Pacific Rim 2 that way. It's sad, since it takes something special away from these movies.
Maybe it’s just me but I really didn’t like how the jaegers were so agile I liked how they were beefy and sluggish in the first one really added to how big they really are
I like how that small robot just destroyed 4 buildings for a dramatic entrance--like the plane could have dropped him off safer, but he needed the entrance.
it supposedly had magic monster blood that doubles as a super rocket fuel. real problem is that it didn't explode as soon as it hits something. all rockets today have incredibly thin walls to save weight, some literally cant hold itself up without the internal pressure provided by the fuel.
Exactly like in the first movie, you had people who trained for years but here you just have some teenagers. This entire movie was stupid and I hated how they killed Mako Mori.
@@seankirby7072 And they killed off Raleigh as well. They didn't even mention his death. No honor to the man who saved the entire population of mankind (kind of).
@@paradoz8375 Supposedly, they left him Mia and didn't explicitly say he died. He supposedly had a conflict with his schedule and couldn't make it. Probably for the best. That said, why the hell would they let kids in this program. They said they graduate in 6 months. Wth. What happened to that November something pilot at the beginning?? Or the original Gypsy Avenger's pilot who supposedly went to another company or something. The world does not only have those kids as pilots. Geeeeez.
Striker Eureka and Gypsy danger would have taken down the big Kaiju together if they were piloted by Stacker and Raleigh. Because they were just that badass. When Striker Fought equally and was even winning against Slattern, a Category 5, underwater where Kaijuu have a definite advantage, it seriously gave us all goosebumps.
Striker was also special. It was the only Mark V Jaeger, and in this movie. A freaking “Mark V” which seems more like a low tech Mark VI just doesn’t have the same feel.
@@ilikegiantrobots1775 Striker was special by PR1 standards but PR2 jaegers are all mark 5 or above. Raijin is a category 5 just like Slattern. What differentiates the PR1 jaegers is their pilots were much more skilled and experienced.
@@tau-5794in Pacific rim, the pilots were actual soldiers and had very extensive training to become a pilot, they were often also brothers or in someway related, so they knew each other, thus making the drift stronger
Now it was just a bunch of teens with no experience stuck into a yeager. Another point is the amount of distruction causef by the yeagers themselves, in Pacific rim the pilots kept the damage minimal when fighting in civillian areas, all the damage in the Hong kong fight was caused by the kaiju or gipsy danger missing a punch, in uprising you can just see saber athena cutting through random buildings without much care and gipsy avenger just pulls the buildings onto the kaiju, causing a lot of dmg
No wonder it took them so long. They destroyed half the city, watched as the monster was modified, then proceeded to attack it with showboat attacks that were dangerous and ineffective. Love this writing
What you don't know is that there was a mini tail IN the tail that thrusts out with high velocity. That is how it pierced the hull. Trust me, this movie is well thought out. No really... .I mean it...
kajiu blood is toxic and contaminates and kills shit. they did nuke the first kaiju attacks yes, but doing so spreads the toxic blood. The purpose of the Jaegers is to punch the kaijus and "knock them out" without much toxic spillage. And for the falling giant metal? theres something like that in the movie "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" where they pretty much drop a needle from space but its just a way worse nuke that wont only kill the kaiju but also the city where the kaiju is in. This giant metal in the movie "gipsy" is REALLY GIANT, I doub't they could build a space station that can carry a jaeger. Hell the kaiju didnt even explode from the impact but got "knocked out" from the concussion force. So the "jaegers punch to knock out kaiju for less blood spill" point still stands
@@Schwayyy WangTerry said nothing about nukes. He spoke of dropping precision projectiles on the Kaiju presumably to let the kinetic energy kill them the way Gypsy Danger did in this scene. The toxic blood doesn't seem to be that much of a concern considering the proximity to dead Kaiju in the first movie and also the potential spillage area is much smaller than the damage done to the city by brawling as seen in this movie. I don't know why you make the comparison to that weapon from GI Joe and come to the strange conclusion that it wouldn't work....because that's basically what they did and it worked. You doubt that they can build a space station that carries a jaeger and yet a single rocket carried Gypsy Danger to extremely high altitude. Clearly they have the means to lift a Jaeger into orbit if they wanted to. But for the purpose of an orbital drop kinetic weapon they wouldn't need anything that big. Even something with only half as much mass would still have a devastating effect on the Kaiju. The whole jaeger punch thing can be dropped in favor of kinetic weapons dropped from orbit or near-orbit....no need to engage them at close range. The first movie shows how ineffective brawling and grappling and tossing the Kaiju is. In fact, most of the kills are from some type of blade or projectile weapon...not melee combat...
@@johng6950 When he said "falling giant metal" I assumed a type of weapon that can be shot from orbit down to the ground so I immediately thought of project thor (or zeus from GiJ) of course the projectile is shaped as a rod of some sort and not a "giant metal" because if it was just a giant metal robot its aerodynamics really wouldnt work and a rod-stick like projectile would not only be cost-efficient but also more accurate. I never said it wouldn't work if they used a weapon like from GIJ. I said it would work but not only would the rod-projectile kill the kaiju but also maybe the city. (the rod might pen the kaiju thus nuking the city lol) And logically, I agree of just using stuff like turrets and putting a shit ton of them over the city and not build a huge robot. But the movie like that? yeah no, boring to watch a turret shred a kaiju. big robot fight big monster more entertaining. edit: Project thor is an actual concept. "Project Thor was an idea for a weapons system that launches telephone pole-sized kinetic projectiles made from tungsten from Earth's orbit to damage targets on the ground." So if they ever do think of giant metal from orbit they would probably do this.
@@johng6950 Very sound points. There's still a few merits that give Jaegers greater value though: They are machines piloted by humans, they can adjust to their environments and do their best to minimize collateral damage by guiding the kaiju away from civilians; They are recycable, if a Jaeger isn't out of commission, chances are it can always be deployed within minutes of a kaiju emergence, whilst reloading orbital weaponry could take hours or days, and once emptied there are no defenses left; Jaegars can equip weapons to counter kaijus, kinetic weapons have only one function and would become obselete once aliens find a way to resist them, e.g. diamagnetic forcefields to repell metals, Iron Dome style intercepting projectiles, superior maneuverability to dodge them, or just layers upon layers of impenetrable exoskeletons; Jaegars are so, so much cooler than big, hard rods.
It's amazing that a completely uncontrolled rocket launched a building sized robot above the clouds and then failed, but left it on a perfect trajectory to punch a giant monster climbing up a volcano. What are the odds?
Pretty bad considering that's not even what happened in the movie. When Avenger was firing it's plasma cannon mid-air, it was using it as a thruster to put it on the right trajectory. That said, still a dumb scene.
3:37 Was that roar really necessary? He can just get on with it and dive straight away. It was such a close battle, because while the Mega Kaiju delivers a lot of hits to all Jaegers, the Jaegers only launch one attack (Gipsy Avenger's dive) against it.
The ideas the movie had were good, with the mega Kaiju being a fusion, and obsidian fury being piloted by a kaiju brain, but the execution lacked the physics, when we come to a giant monster fight movie, we love feeling the weight behind every moment, which this movie lacked
It's not so much the jagers getting shredded that's makes these scenes weak compared to the original, it's the incompetence of the pilots. They seem to have not learned anything from having fought this thing over time and there jagers seem to small to be effective.
Dominick Smith it’s because for some reason the writers chose to make the pilots kids. The only the pilots that actually could have been pilots were the pilots of Gypsy avenger
Dominic are you sure about that and yeah you need to be strong but thats not the case always as you saw the robot was not that strong yet he took out that monster using gravity and a rocket so its about how smart you are not how strong.
@@fadeclan1681 its also tons of strategy and training. You can't just go into a Jaeger and expect everything to go A- Okay in the first run. Its probably plot armor at this point. Or I'm just missing out on some important things like their training.
At least the first movie had the jaegers take a lot of damage before they got destroyed Here it’s one hit and there out of this garbage movie (Makes me wonder if the kaiju did them a favour) And yes I know this is a super kaiju BUT THESE JAEGERS A BUILT TO STOP THESE THINGS AND YET THEY GET DESTROYED FROM ONE HIT
in the first movie Mark 3-5 Jaegers able to hold off Kaiju’s here more advance Jaegers(Mark 6-7 i think) couldn’t handle the damage. it got really damage so quickly.
@@kangroroogaming8950 cherno Alpha killed dozens of Kaijus, it was one of the most successful Jägers ever. Also Cherno Alpha was the oldest Jäger in service while fighting a Kaiju specifically designed to counter it. It’s impressive how long they resisted considering this. Meanwhile those guys are fighting a Kaiju made to be tossed into a volcano and not for fighting while being the latest generation of Jägers and still fuck up…
Genuinely one of the worst fights in cinema history. Pilots had no coordination nothing. This movie had so much potential to set up a universe series, there are many unanswered questions about the jaegers and so on
Not gonna defend this film, but they were inexperienced pilots. Them sucking ass at defeating the kaijus was probably the only realistic part of the movie
@@jayleclerc1759 That’s also one of the major screwups of the film. They should have been experienced adults who know what they’re doing. Not teenagers from the Disney show “Jessie”. It just makes no logical sense to have rookies pilot a trillion dollar robot capable of killing off an entire city.
@@zetanotbeta2424 It has to release entire reactor to slow down and landing by its two foots like human do to minimize all forces concentrated on the mech.
In the first film, it was the world saving the world. There was a clear threat and everyone was onboard doing everything they can with the same goal in mind, all helping each other along the way. The world saved the world. In this film, there’s a small group of teenagers with attitudes who learn to trust one another and pilot giant robots to save the world. That’s Power Rangers. Deknight could’ve made the best Power Ranger movie ever if he just made a Power Ranger movie.
Can we just acknowledge that they broke the sound barrier without any form of protection meaning their body’s would look the equivalent of the aftermath from someone sitting on a live hand grenade
@@getstuffed2391 oh so you’re aware of such? My bad my bad...I was only stating it because it could be possible to survive such impacts if there is a equal force to combat it but I’m just teasing stay safe and have a good one
The fact that they can move around so much and do backflips and shot even though they are giant metal robots just doesn't make sense. I feel like the first one did a better job at showing how big and heavy they really are
I love how the kaijus get more love than the jeagors and I think I rate Mega Kaiju as a 8.5/10 for being close to accurate when it comes to size and weight
See this concept would’ve worked if it was better thought out. Keep the same huge bulky Jaegers but have a smaller Jaeger that’s faster like the current huge ones similar to a support or weapons man. If that makes sense.

and when they're falling like that, the pilots are completely exposed to the elements. they had a tail through the head pod just a few shots ago! they'd be fried/vaporized/burned beyond recognition before they ever collided with the kaiju. This movie went to the fuckin dogs.
Don’t forget that slattern from the first movie is bigger than the mega kaiju. Not to mention, the jaegers are at a severe disadvantage underwater, because they are much slower, while slattern was in his element. It took two, not nearly as high tech as these like 4, jaegers to kill slattern, and slattern still survived after a nuke. This is why I believe that the pilots from the first movie in their old jaegers would still decimate every one of these dumb teens
You will notice that when fighting the kaiju, the Jaeger who stayed alive the longest and probably did the most damage was Gypsy, because it's pilots had actual experience and training. This is why you don't have children pilot giant robots.
3:41 POV: Just a casual double nuclear reactor falling from the stratosphere with 3000miles per hour with weight of 3 tons having a "humanoid" shape with his fist pointed at you
Fell asleep when I was watching it. Looked way too CGI. No real stakes and was just plain. Hope they learn from what they did and come up with a way better one of they ever gonna make a sequel.
A *huge* complaint I have about the sequel based on RU-vid clips is the Drift basically has way less downsides in this movie as far as the link to the other pilot and the Jaeger go. When Raleigh experienced Gypsy Danger's arm coming off, he felt that pain as if he had experienced it himself. Yeah, when the orange one is stabbed, the pilots seem to react as if they're experiencing pain, but what about getting the legs torn off? Or when the bulky green one is getting ripped apart, and the pilots are just like "Oh shit, let me just prep to eject real quick"? I haven't actually seen the entire movie, just clips on RU-vid, so maybe the Drift is more advanced and how/when pilots feel pain is different in this movie, but I don't know and to be honest, I don't care. It just seems like they either forgot something the first movie established, or they wanted a lazy way of ignoring that part of the Drift. There's no tension or fear if a Jaeger is taken down in this movie.
i like the Jaeger's movement in the previous movie, not too agile and sluggish, emphasize how big and strong they are. it became so fast and unrealistic in the sequel 😂
The first one had some realistic physics, if we ignore the sci-fi metal strength. There's momentum, gaining momentum, stoping power and down to earth fist fight
Pacific rim actually came out before rampage, they're not like transformers just cause they are giant robots, and not just cause it has a kaijus it means it is an Godzilla copy, this sequel is terrible, Iam not defending it, iam defending the first movie :v
The first movie was like a love letter to Kaiju Fans (Godzilla, kong and stuff like that) and Mecha/ Giant Robot fans. It was awesome to say the least. People were hyped for this movie and then it just.... well it was kind of disappointing?
First movie: “Falling from this height could kill us and destroy the Jeagar” Second movie: “Let’s drop from as high as we can, Face First into a Kaiju”
@@colvertsolos bullshit, every melee attack we see draws blood aka gets through its armour. If the jaeger had plunged its sword into the location it had just slashed the kaiju would have a bit of a problem
They got rid of the og characters too. And it feels like every movie they put this main dude in sucks. They got rid of everything that made the first movie so kick ass which was the slow giant robots the details and the development of character. They took out all the depth of what they had and were left with a shitty gundam/evangelion movie
Just a simple example for those who wonders why we're all hating on the prequels At 0:24, if the Jeager is one of the ones from the first movie, it will stop that tail swing in place and holds the whole monster still While this piece of orange junk just gets obliterated
This particular jaeger is build to be small and fast not durable and strong. I dont like the movie either but i think the oranges jaeger design was the only thing they did right.
