Packing Cubes, A Comparison 

My husband and I are planning a 3 week trip to Europe with 1 40L backpack each. We've travelled extensively, live abroad in Thailand but getting to a 40L-backpack-stage is something new for us. Your videos have been so helpful specifically, this one on packing cubes, travel shoes, and packing light and right. I appreciate your honesty and concise explanations with a twist of humor. I totally agree about the Eagle Creek cubes. I actually like the unstructured design, but do wish they unzipped further. The light weight is also a big plus! I have three brands, and they are my faves. Will have to check out the L&C!

Very helpful video, logically presented. I have used the Ikea cubes for at least 5 years, & they are still going strong. Also I like eBags Slim Classic Packing Cubes because they fit into narrow spaces in a suitcase or in a motorcycle saddlebag.

Really useful comparisons. Appreciated hearing the pluses and minuses even of brands you like (or work for). Liked learning about the compression style bag, the mesh tops, the full opening zippers, and not to have a zipper in the middle of the wall.

I have a set of packing cubes from Flight 001. I like that the largest cube is double sided. They are not ultra light, but very well made. Just the idea of pack cubes has changed my travel life by keeping everything organized. :-D

I love the Ikea shoe bag, mine is holding up surprisingly well.

I really like e-bags brand of packing cubes. I've been using them for years; they come in a variety of sizes and colors. They have all the features of the Lewis and Clark except for the expansion. But they hold so much I’ve never needed that feature.

Thanks for your share !but I still like my Bagail packing cubes.i use them each time on my trip and business trip.

My first packing cubes were the eBags sets. On the plus side, they have been durable and come in a variety of sizes and sets. However, they seem heavy compared to the Eagle Creek Specter line. I really like the Eagle Creek Specter packing cubes and will probably buy more.

Ive only had the ikea packing cube. Ive had them for more 5 yrs now and have used it frequently. It has held up very well. Dont think they’re heavy at all.

For the Aussies, I bought a set of 4 packing cubes last year and they have been fabulous. The brand is Zoomlite. You can buy them online but they are cheaper at Bags To Go. They are sturdy, great zippers that go all the way around, mesh panel on the top so clothes at can breath and it is easy to see what is in the cube. I just love them and wish that they were invented many years ago. I used them for many weeks of travel last year and had lots of my fellow travellers coming to my room to check them out. I rolled my clothes, reduced wrinkles and it all worked well. They also have sturdy handles on the side so when they are full they look like miniature suitcases. I can highly recommend Zoomlite packing cubes.

Thanks. I've been wanting an eagle creek set, but wasn't sure how they compared to what else was out there. Also you've taught me things to look for which I wouldn't of thought to do. Have you tried the eagle creek ones that compress?

I use ShackePak packing cubes. They are lightweight, yet durable, with mesh on the front. They hold a lot of clothes, especially for a 2 week trip.

I like the theory of compression cubes, but I haven't really found that they pan out in real life. Basically, you're overstuffing shallow cube rather than appropriately stuffing a deeper one. And the result is usually what you'd expect from that: A cube that is shallower around the sides and bulging out an extra inch or two around the middle. I recommend simply getting cubes that accommodate your clothes - uncompressed. You won't have to stress the cubes as much as you do with compression bags, and they're usually about 1/3 cheaper.

The new Eagle Creek Specter Tech cubes (key word being "tech") have full zippers!

Eagle Creek now has compression cubes. I just bought 2 sets for my next trip. Have you tried these? Do they make your clothes more wrinkled?

Great comparisons! I was wondering if it works well for the Eaglecreeks' Specter's design with the half opening and there you mentioned it! They do have a new design that's semi-transparent so you can kind see through it but I think it still is the same half-open zipper design :-(

Hi, Sarah! What carry on bag do you use? I like using Nomad Lane Bento bag for easy access to my phone or passport whenever I need it. It's also really spacious and small enough to fit under the seat. It's just the best. I like using this with packing cubes for organization.

You're missing the folding board that makes sure your close fill completely the Eagle Creek folding bit for max efficiency.

I love packing cubes, but I find them to be pretty expensive for what they are. I have some cheaper ones made by a company called G4Free. I bought mine off Wish for £11, but they also sell them on Amazon. They're probably a step up from the IKEA bags. I've had mine for over a year now and they're still going strong. PS: where did your cat go? I watched her jump onto the chair and then she disappeared!

I couldn't hear as well. Had to turn the volume (my laptop) almost full and just could hear little of the content. It did bother me that I didn't stay on your channel until the end

I just looked up Tom Bihn luggage, Sarah. It's EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. I say---go with Rick Steves' luggage and spend what you save on another vacation.
