The great Sattar Alvi Sahib. He was posted to No.11 AS Sqn. upon return from Syria. I was lucky to be there to serve under him. He being Flt. Cdr. Ops and Aftab Raja Sb. the Sqn. Cdr. Sattar sb surely was a maverick. Flying with him was truely the best time and part of my fighter flying in PAF.

Every achiever is humble person and every humble person is an achiever. In the entire fifty one and a half minutes of the interview, the only thing that overshadowed everything else was how humble he was. Allah has blessed him. He never once mentioned he had a higher goal than what he could get in this world out of his humility. Ma'sha'Allah! A living example for us!

This was such a sacrifice. I don't think Pakistan air force or Pakistan govt deserves any credit for this honor that we have today, it was the valor and individual superhuman resolve of the majestic mad lads that now the air force and Pakistan as a nation thumps chest with pride. We are lucky that some mothers give birth to such super humans. We are grateful, its all your individual manhood because you were few while many had this opportunity, few rose up, few real man.

Saiful Azam (11 September 1941 - 14 June 2020) was a Bangladeshi pilot and politician who first served as a fighter pilot for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) (1960-1971) and later the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) (1971-1979).[3] During his career as PAF pilot, he shot down one Indian Air Force (IAF) and three Israel Air Force (IAF) aircraft. For his actions, he received various gallantry awards from Pakistan, Jordan and Iraq.[3] He also took part in 12 ground-attack missions against the Indian forces.[4] After the separation of East Pakistan now Bangladesh, Azam left the PAF and joined the newly formed Bangladesh Air Force.[2] Saiful Azam(Bangladesh) Awards Sitara-e-Jurat "Star of Courage" (by Pakistan)[2] Wisam al-Istiqlal "Order of Freedom" (by Jordan)[2] Nawt as-Shaja'ah "Medal of Valour" (by Iraq)[2] Honoured as an "Eagle" by the Gathering of Eagles Foundation, United States.

Sattar Alvi suggests to younger pilots at the end: “Be a little bit of a Maverick till you are a Squadron Commander. This is a must. Like our pilots proved during February 27 2019 incident that they are better than us technically and tactically … But they must have a KINK in how they think. If you are totally calculating all odds and assessing every moment, then you are not a fighter pilot. Unless you have a go-getter attitude, it will not work. After you have done your command of a squadron, you can sit in your office relax and think. But till then it is a go getter who is going to do the job. This is my message to you, the young fighter pilots. Be bit of a Maverick. Well I would probably have been a Maverick right till the time I would have made the Air Chief, but for everybody else I say that you should be a Maverick till you are a Squadron Commander.”

Real life drama. Flying armed even during normal flying, because the H-3 flying areas were wolf-infested! There were only few paths cleared on H-3 base because the rest were covered by IAF bomblets and CBUs! Israeli formation went into combat only if they were in advantage! Sattar Alvi started with extreme disadvantage... near enemy territory, all by himself, at the end of his Mig-21 range and endurance, under severe COMJAM conditions where he couldn't talk to anyone. MOSSAD suspected to attempting to kidnap him, because IAF could not accept a Pakistani Maverick shooting down Captain Lutz. Fortune truly favours the brave and the Maverick... and for sure what a Maverick and full of belief Sattar Alvi Sb was, as a tactical fighter pilot and a flight leader!! He was known for, never to give up, even if starting from a disadvantage. Indian Air Force Mig-21 pilots would be truly amused to watch this..... Definitely worth a watch.

Indian Air Force Mig-21 pilots would be truly amused to watch Sattar Alvi praising their work horse- the Bison. But one Flight Lieutenant Tejwant Singh in his Mig-21 (contrary to Sattar Alvi advice) got into a turning combat with a rookie Flying Officer Maqsood Ameer in F-86, during 71 War from an advantage. Maqsood Ameer turned all the way to get into an advantage and shot him down. Tejwant became a POW, attempted escape through Landikotal, got caught. Repatriated after the war.
