I just want to touch on a point you made at the beginning of your video. I enjoy helping small business users in the UK with their websites & I have been doing so for 25 years. It's worth remembering that many of these small businesses do not have 'web guys', many owners try to run & improve their websites themselves. So they google help articles and are often misled by information from so-called 'search guru's' on issues such as page speed. In some cases they can become obsessed with factors like these instead of concentrating on the best user experience for their site visitors. So I am happy that you mentioned the fact that while a good page speed is important, it is not the ultimate critical factor portrayed by some supposed web help sites. Finally, I'd say it is also worth remembering that many small business owners are concentrating on running their businesses, not just their websites. I think it is critical that the correct information is out there instead of what can sometimes be very confusing information, or often overly-techy and bewildering for business owners to understand.
Mary Ellen Coe president of Google Customer Solutions writes that improving mobile speed is one of the most important decisions a business can make on the official "Think with Google" blog Feb 22nd 2019.
As a developer who spent months of time optimizing in the last year i'd love to have had this video. Literally just came off as a lazy/combative developer. Had to build data sets of different devices and internet speeds and then also demonstrate that all of our traffic was coming from tablet bots via our gdn campaigns. It's definitely easy to make a page poorly optimized by code mistakes or just too much js. Such as having a client with a fancy html5 ad that brings in 80 tracking scripts. You can trick the tools like lightspeed/gtmetrix easily so they are blind to it but the real world impact cannot be faked. Ads/tracking are the biggest cancers for page speed beyond infrastructure and project code. Even something as simple as a couple embedded youtube videos by an editor will destroy page speed lol
This is in my wheelhouse. Thank you. It's nice to hear you confirm that the score does not directly matter. I can refer my clients to this video. They get hung up on this kind of stuff. It's all about load time and user experience. 👍
@@mauricewalshe8339 then they should not have jobs. I will give you two specific examples. You can get dinged for using cookies. However, if you are going to use cookies you are going to use cookies. Secondlty, you can get dinged for cachng external resources. The same reasoning applies here.
I hate to say this. But even today, in many industries, Content is not King. Links and the age of the website are the most important factor. I have seen great content on small blogs, but they never rank.
Totally agree.. Crappy content ranking just because they have better links. Content was never the King in my opinion. So called WhiteHat SEO experts using PBN, ranking stuff and google cant even detect them.
This is awesome. I think, to the extent you can actually quantify it, that page speed affects SEO more so because of UX than as a direct ranking factor.
I really like Fast or Slow as it gives you performance metrics from different locations around the globe simultaneously. Sometimes it isn't worth optimising speed for America if your customers are in the UK and you get 1.2seconds full load.
Pages that load quickly satisfy your users. Think of helping your users as opposed to thinking a faster website than a competitor will make you rank higher than them.
Here at BBI we consider page speed as one of several factors which relate to SEO. Ultimately having the keywords in the required places and creating high quality Meta Data are the key factors to consider for gaining improved search page rankings. However, page speed is vital for a good user experience.
Implementing AMP for e-commerce pages is quite tricky and expensive. So if that is not considered as a major ranking factor, then we shouldn't invest in building AMP pages, correct? (Please share your views)
@Jeroen Yes, exactly. That's one of the main reasons. Second is: I applied AMP for a blog running on wordpress. I could set that up in 30 minutes. However, still facing warnings in Google Webmasters. That's why decided not to invest more hours, resources etc for another e-commerce websites and yes, e-commerce pages are responsive so no need to implement AMP for them.
Iam rajan from India, please talk about google my business. I have created Google my business for electrician who have no shop, only door step services. So I can't add his contact in Google my business. How can I fix it?.
Content is king...when done right - I mean content is the entire basis of Google Search. There is no reason for Google if not for content - LOL. Even in the most niched industries. Also, Eric Enge does NOT like AMP - I wonder why he didn't mention that at 11:36 - LOL
If content is king, why is amazon and Pinterest ranking so high on google after the last May core Update? 🤔🤔 Its clear content is not yet a KING in ranking
@iminathi music not really lol it just keywords intent and lots of niche e-commerce rank far better than Amazon for example: MD computers checkout ahref and look by searching available products.
Why not discuss real practices? Did you inform the viewers that the primary factor that affects the Page Speed is which relates to the external resources? You can make a website which counts 100/100 on both desktop and mobile. Yet once you add at least one AdSense banner to it, your Page Speed decreases 30%. There is no way to improve this factor since all the resources are EXTERNAL! You just mislead the viewers. Make first Google's resources load fast, then teach us how to optimize. I asked the question on StackOverflow, and no one specialist from all around the world can answer the question "How to optimize the external resources belonging to Google." Once any of you remove Google Ads and Google Analytics, the PageSpeed report would immediately increase your ranking in the green area. All my websites rank 100/100 on both mobile and desktop before I add at least one AdSense banner. Think about this first. And tell us how to optimize your external resources. We both know that that's impossible. There is no way to be in the green area with Google Ads on mobile devices. If any of you don't believe me, just undertake a simple experiment. Remove all the Google AdSense banners and then test any of your pages us the Google PageSpeed.
they're publicly available in a document google puts out: start here and then read all the linked pages too www.google.com/search/howsearchworks/algorithms/
Depends if people want to see this content. But honestly most content these days thats supports Donald Trumps are made by extremely right wing people or made (commissioned) by rich people that like his enourmous tax presents for already wealthy people. That is not a large group of people.
@@klapauzius101 That is not true, but thats my point people at google think the same way so they participate in censorship. Therefore they have not integrity when it comes to SEO so why bother even doing SEO on your site when if you post the wrong content you get de-ranked. ridiculous.
nice piece! thanks. I was right explaining that to so many people. :) Good score is like having a ready made, good car; doesn't move without fuel. And the reverse is true, lots of fuel will not make a bad car fast!
Google says page speed is a ranking factor. Google gives lighthouse so we can get a score of our page the way google sees us. Google says we don't use that score and don't pay attention to it. Seriously?
I will just start following Google´s related news from just to stay up to date with core algorithm updates and that´s pretty much it. Saying page speed is NOT a ranking factor is just pure BS! Perhaps for more authoritative and establish sites on each industry might NOT be the case, they could get away with a page loading speed of 5+ seconds but, for the vast majority of us trying to move up in the SERP, that´s not even an option for us. The clicks will inevitably go for the site that offers the best possible UX for their visitors and, yes you guessed it, THAT INCLUDES A FAST PAGE LOADING SITE!! Might not be an "official" ranking factor in the eyes of Google nor part of RankBrain core but, there´s no way you can move up in the SERP with just a spotless SEO running on a page that is taking 8 seconds to load, especially on mobile devices.
@@realLestarte This video was published on the 27th of July and Google made the announcement on the 28th of May - webmasters.googleblog.com/2020/05/evaluating-page-experience.html
There's no MYTH here. First of all, no one says or claim that PAGE SPEED will make you rank on top of SERPS. NO ONE. In short, Page Speed is one of the ranking factor and it plays a vital rule in the game. Now, stop thinking for SEO for sec. Imagine user-experience. > Imagine a site loads more than 15seconds. Can you imagine a user WAIT for that long? What would they do? Of course they proceed to your competitor's website. There goes down your user-experience and worst of all your sales. So ask again, is page speed plays a small rule in SEO or esp. to your business?
If I finds helpful information from website , well I am going there again .. so content is king not page speed .. I did pagespeed my website front end distorted with showing less CSS files .. I reckon killed the UX of users
Pagespeed is a ranking factor, obviously. But there are many other ranking factors, but pagespeed and content are among the most important that I can tell from experience after speed optimized some websites.
I watch this to try to understand better, but i really do not think that "content is THAT KING". Also page rank and link building are main things in ranking, and because of that some sites rank better than others that have good content...
my site still in a pending noting appear in google search site also added in a google webmaster tools i also checked site:domain.com but not showing my site wtf
I disagree. My programmer builds really fast websites with decent copy and we begin dominating withing 2 weeks to 2 months. It's quite amazing. Speed is very important!
