He isn’t human...😂 I could listen to these concert in Geneve more than 20 years ago and I can’t forget how much I cried... he is wonderful...fantastic incredible...
That's the thing with brilliant/genius composers, they still understand what the instruments are capable of and compose for the absolute best musicians.
Pahud’s deep staccato skills are unparalleled. As a flute student, I aspire to produce resonant low tones like Pahud. I find myself learning more about musicality from watching this video. I'm currently working on the same piece, and it has been incredibly helpful!
Back here in 2023 listening again. Truly a master flutist. I still can't believe that Emmanuel is the first worldwide musician I saw after moving to Boston 23yrs ago. He's still killing it.
Je connais Mr Pahud depuis ses débuts artistiques , un immense talent , une puissance à la flûte inégalée . De plus c'est un homme charmant et simple .
I've never been more amazed and astounded by a performance on flute. Truly breathtaking. The way he spits out the low notes at 37:11 is just one example of his absolute virtuosity.
This is one of my favorite violin concertos. I've listened to bits of it on flute before and sorely missed the power, finesse, and timbre of the violin. I missed the tearing, savage sounds and the intensely quiet, fade-to-nothing tones. This time, though... Pahud. This is a rip-out-your-soul performance. I could immerse myself in this forever.
Pahud har ført fløytespill på det aller høyeste nivå.Det er bare ta hatten av,musikalsk teknisk er han SUPREM i dagens musikkverden. Brynjar Hoff Nov.2021
Pahud is, of course, superb. But my goodness, that is some orchestra playing. Just an astonishingly great orchestra, from the tight ensemble playing of the strings to the great winds. Amazing orchestra.
Ok, my jaw reached the bottom of a basement. That technique, that rich tone, that musicality, those effortlessly flying quick runs. I'm speechless. I even think his interpretation of second movement in particular suits flute better than violin. He practically made this piece his own. Bravissimo!
Great job there! I really enjoyed working on this in the 70s when Rampal came out with the first recording of this for flute. Last movement was my favorite but MAN is this piece exhausting. And it's very hard to play perfectly! If you like double tonguing then this piece is for you!
Pure joy - I love Khachaturian's work and this, although an arrangement of his glorious violin concerto, is simply great. Kirill does a great job too in conducting - it cannot be easy for anyone but works out so well.
Superbe, le deuxième mouvement me transporte dans les steppes de l'Asie centrale, là où les seuls reliefs sont les rares tumulus et les caravanes de chameaux
Even with a flautist of his skill, those semiquavers at 31:43 are virtually impossible to play. They're hard enough on the violin. On the flute, forget it.
Lovely and technically-accurate playing. My preference is for a more relaxed and playful tempo in the finale, otherwise too many nuances and compositional "turns of phrase" are lost in the brouhaha. No need for brass to over-blow like that (horns, I'm talking to you with your bells up!) in a flute concerto. Also, the only interaction (as fake as it is) is when Pahud is NOT playing, because his head is buried in the music. Do you know this music or not? Fast is not always best. Maybe the Russian is to blame? : ) But, overall, an amazing feat.
Funny. Those who can do and those who cannot apparently like to play critic. There are a handful of people in the world who can actually play this piece and I dare say you are not one of them.
It's interesting because I was thinking the contrary. The breath taking was less compare to other flutists especially at the second MTV. On the first one the short repeated breath takings was intentional to keep perfect the articulation with dynamic staccato. If you take the time to compare with others flutists you will see that he is the one with less breath taking with also the legendary Rampal. That piece is asking a lot physically to the solo flutist if you want the last row of the crowd to catch also the beautiful vibring low notes. Just few could do it in the history of the flute. Respect Master Pahud!
Should not be considered a good flutist. This is flute playing at the highest level, unlike that so famous 'flutist' who cannot even make a decent tone...
@@DavidA-ps1qr nope. Galway has a lot of tension, no mobility on the lips, closed up throat. You cannot make different tone colors with this setup and the tone is thin. On the other point: this is part of the canon (many pieces in our canon transcribed from other instruments) and is one of the most demanding pieces. So there is nothing which can make the comparison invalid. Even himself played this piece. (With some modifications, because he cannot play Rampal's edition)
Yeah Galway has never had the technique to even touch this guy. Those saying missed notes whatever have zero idea of what this guy has accomplished. He is, in my opinion, the greatest flautist of all time, better than Rampal. His intonation is stunning, his tone quality is exceptional.
I note that Emmanuel Pahud mentions how difficult it is to impose the flute onto this work considering the wonderful orchestration throughout. It's a no brainer really. This is a ridiculous transcription. A complete waste of everyone's time, including the listeners. It's a Violin Concerto!!!
Khachaturian himself asked Rampal to transcribe this concerto for flute since he fell in love with Rampal's playing during a performance of Feld flute concerto
@@albimoretto Thank you Alberto, I really didn't know that. My comment is retracted immediately. I still prefer the original, one of my favorites of all time. Thank you again for correcting me. Greatly appreciated. Stay safe and keep well in these times. David A
@@albimoretto I shall leave my original comment up on this post. When a person is wrong, they are wrong, and nobody should ever be ashamed to admit when they are.
@@albimoretto A pleasure, I agree. My original comment could be construed as "aggressive" but wasn't intended that way. You understood that, and replied brilliantly. Wish there were more musically intelligent people like you on You Tube.
