I begin day 7 with a pretty mellow filter. The Paia 2720-3L is a lowpass filter with no resonance. It is still a nice filter to shape the harshest overtones of a sound. quite an easy build but could be a little more complicated (and better) by adding a CV summing mixer for the CV input and freq knob. That is discussed in this video but not shown. For info on how to build a cv summing mixer take a look at MiaW 1.2: • Classic 2 Op-Amp tri ...

I built the 2720 3L lowpass filter but was quite underwhelmed with it, though listening to this video it sounds a bit better than I can remember. On the other hand the 2720 3B sounds much better, I was that guy ( gasboss775 ) who posted the modded 2320 3B circuit. It is worth adding the exponential current source as this greatly extends the range of the filter, also I thought it sounded better with a red led than the 1n4148 diodes.

Yeah I don’t have it in the rack anymore. As it was to subtle. I have your schematics in my todo pile. They did sound really nice. Thanks for rewriting and missing them. :)

I will soon build s simple circuit to expand the trigger out of the Behringer RD-8. The circuit requires a diode, and I am curious to try using an LED instead. This video suggests that this may be a possible substitution- Thanks for posts!

Please let me know if it worked. Be aware that LEDs are much more "noise" than regular diodes, so it might affect the sound...

Pro trick : you can watch movies on kaldrostream. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.

And I think that this filter is at a fixed cutoff frequency (think I heard something about 500 hz?). R7 and R8 would need to be variable to make it controllable. So you just chosse 0-12 db/oct. But this makes it even more unique and interesting in my eyes. Everybody has a variable resonant filter. :D Tone control is the next big thing!

I want to build a fixed filter bank as well for similar reasons. I wonder if I can do it under $3 exkl. jacks?
5 лет назад
Huh... I didnt read that much about it, it looked simple and I built it ;) But can the cutoff really be fixed, since you can sweep the cutoff with the frequency knob? I am just speculating, I really dont know, but yes, this filter definetely has its place in the sound sculting tool kit... This must be nice on deep bass sounds....

I noticed that on the spreadsheet, you left out the capacitors. Just curious what you used for the uncommon .005uf caps.
3 года назад
You don’t need to use polar cap for this it’s just a simple 5nf or 4n7.

A new vco based in the 3340 with all the waveforms, FM, sync would be great in modular in a week, look mum no computer haven't complete it.
5 лет назад
Well there won’t be time in this “series” but I have in mind to do a series on all those chips that are synth specific and I will definitely do a vco based on the 3340. But just that chip costs more than any module in “Modular in a Week” 😅

@ yeah, the cem 3340 are expensive but there's a clone named as3340.

Aarón Espinoza Castro yes I bought two as 3340 from electric druid £5 each free shipping !! Built two lmnc layout oscillators . Still to test sync but otherwise fairly easy vco 1v/ oct

Hey Kristian! Finally building the filters! Yay! Question on resistor parts list. The spreadsheet calls for 4x220k resistors which I can't find in the schematic. Are these used on the j3-j5 inputs due to different voltage (12v vs 18v)? Thanks as always!
5 лет назад
Awesome! That also means temperature has dropped in you garage? So you can be in there again. :) I’ll check and get back.
@spot2028

@ Eh, temp drop - not so much :(. Just learning to deal and do things in short bursts. Also, realized this is passive after sending the message, so power not a factor. Thanks!
5 лет назад
Spot 20 I think it says 330k in the schematics. I had 220k in bulk so I think that is why.
@spot2028
@spot2028 5 лет назад
@ I happen to have both, so using 330k like the schematic should be ok, correct? Thanks for checking on this, take care.

You build thr filter right? So wich Values you use for the capacitors?
5 лет назад
So whih do you sound better? The 1N4148 or the Red LEDs? I think after listening quite a lot that the red LEDs went a bit lower down... But as I asked, what do you think?
@cl3mens
@cl3mens 5 лет назад
Hmmmm I did not really hear any difference. I like that sound as you sweep it, sounds slightly resonant? I do not have mine up and running at the moment but I used 1N4001:s or something similar.. I substitute every NPN transistor with BC547 since I am lazy and keen on keeping it simple.
5 лет назад
@@cl3mens Actually the resonance is just the square waveform showing its jagged edges (I think) When it is full open (as open as it can be) it is almost a square wave again, and it sounds resonant COMPARED to when the filter is closed, because you hear the overtones I guess... Took me quite many listens to before I figured that out :) And just as I say in this video and others aswell, almost all BC547,548,549 seems to be able to switch between them, with at least similar result.... So that is a good way of keeping the nr of different parts to buy down :)

First listen I heard more range out of the led

Definitely more range with the LED, I'm going to try this out myself.

Hi can I use any other transistor then the Bc547? Like 2n3406 or 2n2222
@cl3mens
@cl3mens 5 лет назад
I've been told that the 2n2222 and 2n3904 are usually equivalent to bc547/8/9 in many applications.
5 лет назад
As cl3mens already said, and also just TRY with any other NPN transistor. The 2N3906 wont work as that is a PNP transistor. You need its NPN sister 2N3904 in that case (as already pointed out)....
5 лет назад
Put a three pin female socket where the transistor should be and then just swap them out and try which one sounds the best... ;)

I couldn't find day 6 & 7 in the Dropbox 😔

It’s probably because I didn’t make any of my own files those two days. I only used publicly available files on respective makers homepage. Look in the spreadsheet, video description and in the panels folder for the panels for the modules.
