May I suggest two things: (1) Don't pay to have the rocks taken away. Take a power chisel to the larger ones, break them up and make a retaining wall. (2) For the cliff, in California where slides like this are common they cover the area with a chicken coupe wire mesh pegged at the top and bottom, then you can if needed spray it with concrete...cheapest fix there is.
That big golden boulder in your garden could be a gorgeous feature. Chisel a bench into it perhaps! A landscaper could make it even more gorgeous with the right plantings around it. Wouldn’t dynamiting the cliff make it even more unstable? And the smaller rubble could be hauled up by truck to dump in the crevasse.
Thank you Tomas, for being so positive and reliable and understanding the needs of each situation at Borie so intuitively! You make the thing flow and take the sting out of the worst situations!
Hey, I also agree, dont move the rocks they will act as a break barrier if more cliff comes down. Certainly, NO blasting!!! Hold out for paying for anything just now, sit tight. Good job having Tomas as interpreting for you he's a good worker .WCL
I would think it’s the responsibility of the town to make safe the eroding land/cliffs that’s falling onto your land, surely. no matter what the cause (though definitely looks water/drainage related). I hope they take responsibility and help you.
"Hindsight is 20/20" has been around for ages for a reason. When I was in Europe we saw many cliff walls shored up with wire and cement so they wouldn't fall down on the roads or train tracks.
Thanks for including us in your life once again. The rock fall is clearly from erosion which is clearly from water. It is funnily contradictory that the Marie's group says the cause is not water, yet the wall is being rebuilt. I hope the geologist will represent the current and future situation of the cliff in a manner that supports your interests including safety, expenses, and future plans. My father was a geologist at Pennsylvania State University, so I know how important it is to have accurate information on geological matters. I enjoyed seeing the trips with your niece and her friend, and think the Little Green paint colors are perfect for the bedroom. Even though the bedroom gets plenty of light, it benefits from warmer tones. Great job on the ceiling! I like the idea of adding panels to the walls for the wallpaper. I was thinking about that as you said it in the video! It's a timeless way to decorate walls and is currently on trend here in North America. You might check out Pinterest to get a sense of how panels would work for the bedroom. Little Green might also offer it in a fabric for curtains or cushions. Okay, I am off and running with these ideas! You have me excited for what is next. Best of luck with the cliff!
You could put dried lavender bud sachets in the drawers (or dried peppermint sachets if you prefer). The peppermint oil will fade and adding natural sachets will be longer-lasting. Lavender is also a natural insect repellent and smells wonderful. You should easily find freshly harvested and dried lavender buds there in France. I think many people have forgotten about this easy and pleasant fix. I would put them in other drawers too, especially the linen wardrobes.
Of course it’s water drainage. I live in Palos Verdes California and the area is dealing with land movement problems. All of the geologists agree that it has been caused by water. Either excessive rain or leaking pipes. So sorry that you have to deal with this problem.
It is nice to see you wander places, filmed by somebody else. From narrator to main actress ;) What an adventure to own such a property! I can bet a lot of us viewers send you our best energies and wish things turn for the best for you when some of the complicated situations come up.
Hi Abby I hope there’s a good outcome, regarding the Rock landslide ! It’s a worrying time for you ! Love your choice of paint colours & gorgeous wallpaper! I do love the darker shade, but as you mentioned, they look different on screen ! I like the idea of paneling on the walls, Now you can buy polystyrene mouldings ,once painted they look so authentic!
Sorry for all the rock troubles. I think that biggest rock, and maybe some others, could be nice landscape pieces to keep. When highways are at risk of rockslides, some chain-link fencing is attached over the face to prevent it. Probably not a cheap option. Seems odd to have to blast more of it out though, because that would bring the houses above even closer to the edge? Will be good to hear the geologist's report. Seems obvious the excessive rain is the cause of all the problems.
Abby your opinion is the only one that is important. You need to be happy with the colors and the wallpaper. ❤ I say this with love, and for your peace of mind. 😊 If you love the wallpaper and the colors. 👏🏼 I do like the colors. They are lovely and soft and comfortable. Thank you Abby.
I wouldn’t pay to have rubble taken away, if anything have it pushed up against the cliff wall and it would help support the cliff from falling further. As far as traveling to get the paint, make a day of it visit market, shopping and lunch!
Sending all good vibes your way on the hill situation. I sure hope that works out in your favor. Thomas is such an asset. And all your retreats will be wonderful.🎈
Interesting how the town doesn’t want to take a responsibility for any damage to your property caused by bad planning but they get a say so in what changes you want to make on the buildings on your property. 🤔 I’m excited to see your finished room!❤️❤️
Well... You are taking all the appropriate steps to rectify the rock slide , just one step at a time. I don't know if this is something that can be done, but here in Idaho on the steep rocky cliff areas they place a what looks like a cyclone fencing into the rocks. Of course it's probably pricey but it might be an interim solution if it would be allowed. Once the geologist makes his or her report you will have more answers than questions. On to brighter topics, the colors are so beautiful you are testing out... And love the wall paper. Adore Chloe and how she navigates the vegetation, poor lil girl she did great. So, thank goodness for Tomas... What a sweet guy LOL that 30+ page request for a window LOL as is said When in France 😂 Hugs Dear Girl...hang on tight, it will come together 🤗
Having the ladies with you, such lovely company. Love the paint & wallpaper! I love the pink wallpaper too. Swoon. I would paint the ceiling. It would be the finishing touch. Chloe is the cutest. 🤍
There were so many Chateaus in France and to buy a house next to a huge cliff would not of been in my thoughts. So I hope the cliff problem does not get worse.
We all make mistakes. We sold a property 'as is' and it had water issues. Bought a property that has water issues that we didn't check on inspection. Hopefully you will have a satisfactory outcome. Love the bedroom colour.
I love your little shop find! But you did make me laugh when you said that it was a 45min drive away and you considered that a bit of a haul! I live 47km out of Launceston Tasmania and I have to drive 45mins just to go grocery shopping! I do not consider that a haul. Its funny how different people view distances, I have always lived where I have had at least a 45 mins drive to work. When I was growing up, we used to drive from Tom Price in Western Australia, to the next town Paraburdoo just to watch the footy on a Sunday afternoon, and that was just over an hour each way lol. The colours are just gorgeous! Better than plain white, The wallpaper is totally gorgeous too and don't worry about the cost of it Abbey, this is your bedroom. If you have to spend money anywhere and particularly where you don't really want too, you deserve to have somewhere nice to come and relax too. Don't skimp on yourself. Also don't let other people bully into situations, please get more than one opinion on this rock collapse situation. I feel that you are being railroaded and taken advantage of.
I think you made the right choice in paint and wallpaper. They go very well together. Like you, I was hoping for better news about the rock slide. Praying the geology report will be good news. I love how Cloe walks behind Tomaz stopping when he stops and looking back to make sure you are there. It must have been lovely to have some company for a few days.❤
I had a feeling that the Council were not going to play any part of payment for the clean up of the cliff , but so funny how they getting there A in G to fix and put up a new wall for the pumping area , which by the way most probably made the cliff fall in the beginning as it had not been looked after at all by the looks . If it was me i try and get a digger in to remove the small stuff and just push the big rocks up against the cliff , Maybe just put up a fence of some sort to not let people go near that part of the cliff , hopefully the rest wont come down , And when u get the money to do so u can pull the rest down . Just keep Chloe away from that area . Thats all . Big shame its happened but its not your fault really .
Hello, watching you going through your make over inspires me. I would leave the trim same color as the walls. You could dot the contrasting color with a sponge for just a tiny bit of color in the trim. It’s very interesting to see how living in another country is so much different than living in the United States. Your house is now becoming your home. Your personality, your likes and passions. From California 👍
LOVE your opening song, and so glad you listened to your viewers and don't cut it off. It is perfect for you!! I'm sorry about the angst this rockslide is causing, and pray you find ways to keep your stress levels down thruout the whole ordeal.
Oh Abby Iam sorry the town not taking responsibility but yet they are doing work so to me that's taking responsibility the study should be able to define if it's the drainage from the neighborhood up top is the cause! Love colours you choose for your bedroom A place to relax in the colours how nice !😀😍
Love the color choices….green in the middle of the spectrum is a healing color, pinks are the vibration of love and the gray is grounding….perfect for your bedroom….and why not, you deserve this! Maybe Thomas knows some kind of environmental lawyer who could get some kind of contingency that says perhaps nature (and the town put a lot of load on the upper banks where they perhaps (foolishly) allowed too much building?
Abby, your bedroom is going to be beautiful! So excited for you! I love that you used the veining and tones in the marble fireplace as inspiration/a jumping off point for the lighter color. 💗 🍃 It annoys me that the Mairie and Safety Committee are trying to say that the water issue is not the cause of the cliff fall. Jeez. If the Town Planners (“approvers”) of the subdivision at the top of the cliff did not ensure that a proper geotech report was done prior to building it, or that proper water sluices or drains were put in or maintained on those properties and roads, that is obviously on them, not on you. If you can, I would ask Thomas to check the with whatever the French equivalent is of the City Clerk’s Office for all the official records to do with planning, developing, and approving that subdivision and you may find some very interesting documents (I.E. proof in terms of what was supposed to be done and whether that actually was done and maintained). The previous owner not disclosing the crevasse issue is very dishonest and unfortunate, argh. Anyways, I hope the Town bucks up. I agree with other followers that you could (potentially, only if you want to) use the rocks that have fallen as the basis for one or more features or a wall in your garden, the classic cliche, “when you have lemons, make lemonaid”. 🍋 Thomas was so funny when he said “even for a French guy it’s so complicate”. He’s a gem. 😁
I was wondering how necessary it is to remove that huge boulder? Assuming nothing else tumbles down, could the smaller boulders be removed and the large one left and covered with yoghurt to encourage lichens and moss. Make it a feature. Might save you a few euros!
Questions, questions!! Does your property line end at the crumbling wall or beyond it? Do you think they are taking advantage because you are a woman and Canadian/American at that? Could they pour cement in the crevasse to keep them rock from splitting anymore? Is your cottage and house in extreme peril? Now the comments! I would leave the large rock on the ground be. You can always landscape around it and it might keep more of the wall from coming down. I too, really like your colors. If the paper is really expensive, could you do the top part of the wall and paint underneath. Although I don’t know if that save you any money. Doing the panels on the wall could certainly break up the large space on the wall(s). I have seen some of extremely beautiful for not so much ch money. Lone Fox on RU-vid is a really great decorator in LA and has many great ideas. He is redoing his Spanish house and redoing it. Anyway, love your channel. Surprised Chloe would even climb those steps after her mishap! Have a great week!
I love the colors and the wallpaper. Your bedroom will be lovely. Tomas is a great support, you are lucky to have him. Your niece and her friend are fortunate to have you in France when they need some time off. I believe Little Green Paint covers super well so you only need one coat instead of two with many of the other paint brands, so that’s a savings and less work. xx
Perfect colors, Abby. Little Greene makes excellent product. Can't wait to see it come together! And the wall paper is gorgeous! So so sorry about the unwillingness of the town to help with the fallen rock. That's hard. Keep your chin up! You are amazing at keeping a positive attitude, and always moving forward. And so fortunate to have Tomas also!
In California they use nets to help with rockslides, doesn't always work but could help, It will be fun to see how the ròom turns out , you have been blessed with lots of great help.
It will be interesting to see what the geologist says. Little Green is more expensive but so far everyone who has used it has loved it. Michael Pethrick says it possibly less expensive as he doesn’t think you need more than one coat. No under coat either but maybe that was true just for him as he was painting new plasterboard?
I think Cleo likes Thomas. She is so silly. Thomas is a very very special person. Abby, when you were at the cave dwellings, did you noticed that the cliff had some kind of wire holding the cliff? Can that be something they can do for your cliff? Vary nice choice of paint colours and wallpaper. You need to splurge a little on yourself. It is going to be beautiful.
What is out of your control is just that..all you can do is as you stated wait on the geologist report and go from there..hopefully there is a good resolution! The paint and wallpaper is just beautiful! Fantastic how the perfect colors were found when you were least expecting to find them! They were meant to be! Hope you have an amazing week ahead! Au Revoir 💜
I also like the 2 paint colors you chose but I see the grey as the main wall color and the lighter color as the trim. And I’m so glad you were able to save the ceiling paper! Yay! Great work!
Wow. I hope theyre not trying to deflect from what is a very serious situation especially for the sake of borie and you. So glad thomas is there. He truly is a great man such a positive nature. Fingers crossed, everything crossed in hopes they help ❤❤
Your bedroom already looks so much better with the pink paper down & the falling wallpaper glued back on. The views out of your windows are beautiful. I’m another fan of your bedroom colour choices.
I love your taste in decorating! ❤❤❤❤I’m soo excited for you! Your room is going to be GORGEOUS! Understated ELEGANCE! Loved the town tour too! I am sooooo PROUD OF YOU 👏🥰❤️❤️❤️💯
I luv your music, the paint colors and wallpaper too! Btw…I loved the look of the windows and curtain boxes…so epic with the era of chateau. Very unique! I can envision long lush curtains adorned at each window. The elaborate box and window is the focal point. But it is your room…they just looked so solid and gorgeous to me. Crown Moldings don’t necessarily have to move continuous around the entire room, they can be broken up, and/or at the corners. (In another chateau I saw) The Cliff…if you blast and God forbid something happens to Homes above? And all the WATER!! Oh Abbey, the city is responsible not you. The village you visited, with the cliff, and the castle on top was lovely. Yes, I was watching and thinking you should speak to someone in the town, about how it is maintained etc. On another note, you look so rested and happy, despite everything! God bless you, Chole, and all your helpers! Your nieces are darling! Yes! Let them totally help you, Auntie🤍🤍🤍take care 🇺🇸❤🇫🇷
I believe the Pethericks get their paint at Little Greene. Have you considered creating a wallpaper headboard that goes to the ceiling and is trimmed out in moulding? Wouldn’t be as pricey and would still provide beautiful interest in your bedroom.
Love your bedroom paint choices!!!! French bureaucracy is very similar to the Italian one!!! Why simplify processes right? I lived in Italy for many years and boy o boy, for one change they had to involve like 155 different departments and offices 😅. I'm sending positive vibes your way that the cost of removal is not gonna be soo astronomical!!! Is a giant rock garden/maze park an option? 😆
LOVE Sarlat! I bought lots of truffle products from that store last summer. On the other side of that main drag, there's a store (a few books, clothes, an upstairs with more stuff) with a cafe where I had the best salad and quiche ever!
That was quite the trek for poor Chloe. I can see why you fell in love with your place. It's so beautiful. Kudos for gluing the wallpaper to your ceiling. Surely that was less of a task than removing it, scraping and painting. At least for the time being, it allows you to move on more quickly. Is the cottagethe buildingto the left of your house as you come downthe driveway?
