@@ImperfectPaintings I plan to paint a piece in his style. Your video gave me some clear ideas of how to approach it. I just ordered the book you showed. It should help, too. Albert, I really like the way you analyze paintings. Your observations are "spot on" as we say here in the US. Keep it up!
Yet another excellent lesson. I knew of RD for years and actually had the exact same book that you showed. Interestingly your ability to deconstruct and simplify made it so much easier to understand his work and made the book so much more accessible and valuable. Thank you so much. Since you asked, I still like to experience your take on cubism.
Hi Salim, thanks. This how I make his works accessible for me. Maybe he was aiming at something completely different. But as a painter I take this approach. The book has so many beautiful reproductions. Cubism coming up next week... have a happy day, Albert
Hi Denise, thanks. I would love to walk the streets there, see the ocean, and look around for his inspiration. Lucky you. It's also a fun way of painting. Thanks for sharing, Albert
Dear Albert, thank you for you truly excellent tutorials. I am a huge fan of both Diebenkorn and Hockney, and that is how I stumbled upon your channel. We seem to be interested in many of the same painters - I also mainly paint abstract and I adore vivid colors. If you want to, I would love to see your take on Cubism. - “How to paint like a Cubist” (in a colorful way). Another suggestion would be on Fauvism. Another yet on Bauhaus. Again, thank you for your great work. Your tutorials rock! Love from Sweden.
Hi Bettina, oh I love get comments like this!! Thanks. Interesting tips for videos. For next week I'm working on Cubism already. Fauvism would also be interesting. Bauhaus is more complicated. I'll put them all on my (growing) list. Would love to see your work. Anyway, keep painting and have a happy day, Albert
Thanks Albert! I love your videos... Its by far the best tutorials for abstract painting. Could you please show us how to paint like Jackson Pollock? Thank you. Nadia from Vienna.
Hi Nadia, thanks, I love compliments 😁👍 I will look into Jackson Pollock, but I guess it will get messy. Anyway thanks for the tip. Have a happy day, Albert
Niet echt Albert...ik vond het knap dat je er nog iets van wist te maken.....die video met die blokjes vond ik stukken interessanter...ben even de naam van de kunstenaar kwijt. Maar ik waardeer je inspanning en kijk elke week met plezier!
Inspiring video. Thank you diebenkorn is famous for his veiling technique and paints in oils. Would this be done using titanium white and gamsol on top of dry.?
Thanks, Barbara. I'm not an expert on Diebenkorn's techniques. So I can't answer your question. What I often mention is this: just do. So, in case you have an idea, like his techniques, just try it yourself. Maybe you're right. Maybe you learn something new. Anyway, have fun. Albert
La prochaine fois I will talk back in English, it takes less time. 😁 Bye, Albert
Cool, I think you got the colours and compositon, but as you said so yourself, he took a lot of time on each painting, he usually painted layers over and over for years , so it would be impossible to trully make a diebenkorn painting in one or two sessions, and I think this is an important aspect of his work, how he added texture and interest by adding and covering and scratching.
Hi Barbara, thanks. I never intent to copy, it's more looking at his artwork in a lighthearted way, how could you make one, just by looking at your own surroundings. The enjoyment of painting and when interested, educate yourself about his artwork, just like you did. And enjoy looking and making abstract art, what a lot of people want but have difficulties with. Hope this helps or watch some more videos on my channel to get it 😁. Bye, Albert
Hi Mary Beth, thanks. I use transparent paint. The effect is that when I paint blue over yellow the part where they overlap the color will appear green, because I can see through the blue layer and still see the yellow. In case you use opaque paint, you will only see the top-layer. When you check your paint tube/bottle there will a mention of what paint you have. I use Winsor & Newton Galeria acrylics. Check their site for more specific info. Hope this helps. Albert
Mr Albert, thank you so much for the interesting videos. I am wondering if you always use acrylics or oils on all of these works. And also would like to know their brand, because I could notice that the paints are very soft and are never dry on the palet. Thanks.
Hi Marcia, thanks. I always use acrylics (no smell, dry quickly) and i use Winsor & Newton Galeria acrylics. I also work on paper (cheap). Hope this helps. I wish you ots of fun on your painting adventures. Albert
Thanks Ginny, interesting artist. I would love to walk through Ocean Park now, we had snow today in The Netherlands. Sometimes I mix with some titanium white which is and creates opaque colors. I usually mentioned it when I do but I could have missed it, perfectly Imperfect 😉👍 Have a great day, Albert
Hi Tim, thanks. Just play with ideas, like the black lines while using them or not, see for yourself what works. Play around, make mistakes en learn. Albert
Hi Brian, sorry I can't tell anymore. I guess the primary ones and prussian blue. And mixing white and titanium white. Good luck painting yourself, it's interesting to make your own composition too. Albert
Thanks Michael, good question. For instance, you have no idea what to paint. Secondly, because you want to try abstract. Thirdly, you like the paintings of Diebenkorn, but don't know where to start. Now it's your turn: why would you like to psint like Duebenkorn? Looking forward to your creative answer. Albert
