This is such a wonderful tutorial! I like how you explain what you are doing and why. When I saw the thumbnail, I actually thought it was a photo of what was to be painted. I can't believe how much a flat painting can appear to be an object sitting on top of a piece of paper and casting a shadow.. 🙂🙂🙂

The leaf you've painted on paper looks more beautiful than the reference image. I assume it is when the artist puts the soul in the artwork. Very great job again!

4:51 I’m struggling with my paper buckling, even with the slightest bit of liquid in the paper. I’m using Strathmore cold pressed 140 pound weight. The paint goes right into the paper before I can move it around. Then it buckles.

You are a wonderful teacher. I can never seem to get the right ratio to water in my brush and if I do it’s a total fluke. I would also love to get these brushes but it’s so expensive to get delivered to the UK. 😢

Love this work of yours. 1. Reminds me of the story the last leaf. 2. You actually show how you are lifting excess water. 3. Also like the use of additional camera so I can see the how lightly you add more colour to leaf. 4. Because of the additional camera I can see the technique more clearly and view the consistency of the paint. 5. Liked the toothpick /back of the brush hack too.

But when it dries it straightens out again. But I've seen other artists tape their paper to the surface of the table before painting

Yes. You can paint the back of a warped watercolour paper with clear water, let it soak in, then gently stretch it lengthways and sideways with your hands. Then allow to dry under something flat and heavy. There are several videos out there on how to do this without tearing your painting.
