Its always a pleasure watching you build models........ almost as nice as your verbal instruction. Seeing you do something helps, but hearing WHY you're doing it helps immensely. hanks for what you do, Sean

Great work on both of those kits Sean, the weathering and rust / chipping on areas of the Super Gerry are excellent, had the same issue recently with the ‘modelling doldrums’ so got into Wave’s Ma K ‘Kuster’......great kit recommended.......they are a bit pricey and hard to get down here in Oz though......cheers Mick.

"Ma friends" I also follow Night Shift and I think he is an awesome painter. I think you are too and I love seeing the bases you paint for the aircraft models. Another guy who has a very different approach to painting is Laser Creations. He's into post apocalyptic dioramas that tell pretty powerful stories. Really worth watching. I think in the end we all develop our own techniques and I've borrowed a little from many people. I find chipping one of the most difficult things to get right. I think its a scale issue as I have seen people making the P38 Lightening to resemble some of the Pacific theatre aircraft that are pretty beaten up. I think if you copy a photo of an actual aircraft the model will look over chipped and weathered out. Sort of less is more as you say.

@@allanrichards3752 yeah i hear you i just try to take pictures of anything that is painted and made out of metal to see what chipping looks like regardless this is a long process that takes patience

@@timothybogans3905 I think that is why I feel chipping is one of the hardest things to get right. I tried to make a P38 model of a particular aircraft that I had some pictures of. The paint on the aircraft was worn and heavily chipped. I felt I took a long time to accurately copy the photos but when I viewed the model without the photo it just didn't look right. I use a brush and end up doing individual chips. I've never had any success with the sponge technique, It always looks like the chips have been dabbed on. Maybe I am just not any good at it.
@timothybogans3905
@timothybogans3905 2 года назад
@@allanrichards3752 i agree the technique is hit or miss i just get it to the point to where i'm ok with the result and move on just keep going alot of these modelers talk about this so called scale effect when looking at your model and the prototype and making a judgement on what looks right i think we all see things differently even though we may be looking at the same subject but again i agree that less is more in respect to chipping

Academy B-29, yep she's on the shelf of doom.. no positive locations, yadda, yadda - main canopy doesn't fit (10 thou shim to get it to fit) you need a ton of lead to get it not to tail sit and nowhere to hide it & doing a closed bomb by is fun!

Yes, I think he’s actually an E.T. sent here to provide us with otherworldly modeling technologies. The rust is applied in a translucent layer acting as a filter to make the underlying chips appear rusty.

I let the thin set glue wick into the joints. The glue stains the seams, but they disappear when I paint the model. Recently, I used some MRP lacquer based paint and the glue seams are visible. Is this because its lacquer based, or do some paints let the glue joints show through?...thanks-luv the channel
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 2 года назад
I don’t think it has to do with the type of paint. I don’t quite know what you mean by staining though. I’ve noticed that sometimes when I use too much Tamiya extra thin or I get a drop of it on the plastic where it shouldn’t be, it’ll cause a very slight deformation in the plastic that can be seen after painting if it’s not sanded down
@Plydrms
@Plydrms 2 года назад
@@seanerk5kt9 Yes, that's probably more of the issue. Also, I didn't prime the surface. Do you recommend always priming prior to paint? If so, what kind of primer do you like?
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 2 года назад
@@Plydrms I always prime the exterior but don’t always prime the cockpit or other interior parts that aren’t going to be handled as much. The only primer I use is mr surfacer 1500 (comes in black or gray) and thinned with mr color leveling thinner.
@Plydrms
@Plydrms 2 года назад
@@seanerk5kt9 Ok, thank you. What do you think the main benefit is from priming the model?
@seanerk5kt9
@seanerk5kt9 2 года назад
@@Plydrms there are lots. It lets me know if there are any seams, scratches or other bad areas that need to be taken care of before paint. Provides a uniform surface on which to paint. The Tamiya paint I use adheres 10 times better to a primed surface than to bare plastic. I often rescribe panel lines and add rivets directly on the primer especially in areas that I’ve had to fill with filler.
