This video covers the process of transforming a rusty old crosscut saw into a work of art with a just a little elbow grease and a lot of acrylic paint. My client commissioned me to paint his in-law's farm on a 5'6" crosscut saw as a Christmas gift for his wife. I had never painted on metal before, much less rusty metal, but after hours of research I came up with the method that I'm sharing with you today. Enjoy!
Actual painting begins at 6:22
Materials used: Liquitex professional acrylic paints, Liquitex matte varnish, Liquitex resin sand, Stabilo marking pencil (white), Krud Kutter the Must for Rust, Rustoleum Self-Etching Primer (gray), Rustoleum Sandable Primer (black)

Very beautiful ! You are very talented and creative. Such a beautiful painting, it’ll out last us. When I was younger a painted a few of those saws taller than, I had never done them before , but once I stared I just loved them, I Painted several for my husband and his brother on they’re dads old saws , they loved them, I’ll pass my husband’s Down to my son in law I had painted. Both sides on of the old farm the other ha several barns and an old Truck which his dad passed to him. I think he’ll enjoy it and pass it to his grand son, it was just beautiful, I Know your clients will love it,tanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍♥️♥️😃

Nice work. For future reference the handles come off really easily. It's literally just one nut that you need to loosen and the whole thing slides right off. Might make it easier of you end up doing another one

Amazing work! I'm looking to try something like this for a memorial piece for some family friends. Do you think a person could just take parts of the blade and de-rust, etc. while leaving the rust on the blade without it compromising the paintings down the road?
Год назад
I'm not really an expert on this, but from my understanding, if you leave the rust on the surface it will spread over time. That would impact your painting in the long run. The primer I used on the surface of the blade was a rust deterrent, which will hopefully preserve the painting for a long time to come, and then I was able to keep the antique feel of the blade by creating faux rust. Faux rust is really very easy to make if you have acrylic sand, and it's a lot of fun! You can feel free to email me if you have any questions I can help with! Good luck on your project!

Your fake rust looked pretty convincing to me. Love the painting(s)! Also enjoyed your self-heckling in the video editing, I do that in mine sometimes as well.

Thank you! I'm glad my heckling came across well. 😆 I tried to keep my personality in it without making it too terribly long. It still was a little long, but oh well. 😁 Glad you liked it!
