Wonderful. Thanks Andy. It's really useful, as I hope to start my first portrait in a couple of weeks. I would like to have known more about colours you were using and see how you blended the colours, such as the shadow area around the nose and cheek on the light side, which suddenly appeared blended.
Thank you so much, Peter! I'm glad to hear it was useful! Yes, you're right, I do not talk about the colours much in this video, but perhaps you can check out my previous video where I painted some dog toys. I believe I talked about colour use more there. I think the most important thing you need to know about colour when painting a subject that is under a strong directional light in a studio setup that does not have much other light sources or little diffuse light, is that the deeper you go into a shadow area, the more the colour saturation tends to increase. Anyway, I won't write a chapter on colour theory here, haha, but remember, the hues shift, the colour temperature changes. The colour in the light, middle and dark areas will be "three" different colours, in the most simplified sense. It's not only the values that change. Thanks for your feedback and I'll try to keep in mind what you said about the blending! Have fun painting your first portrait!
