This is an amazing piece, but may I ask which was the base layer, the acrylic or the oil and why, if you have a moment to share? I have yet to learn oil so don't know it's characteristics yet. Thank you! And an incredible piece of art!

Thank you so much! To answer your question, I used acrylic for the base layer and painted on top with oil. The reason for that is that when I do more detailed paintings like feathers or fur, I like to work in several layers that I let dry because it allows me to add more details without having the paint blending together and making a mess. I use acrylic for the first one or two layers because it takes only a few minutes to dry, compared to oil which takes at least a day, so I can get 2 or 3 layers done on the first day instead of just one. Also, you should never use acrylic on top of oil because of the massive difference in drying time, the painting won't dry properly and most likely get ruined. I hope that makes sense.
