I also have this ugly gold door. We are getting ready to have shower glazed. Did you do the inside of door and the track? If so how is it holding up or how often did you have to do touch ups?

Nice job! my suggestion is if you loose a few screws and remove the glass is gonna be much nicer.

It held up really well It is a budget-friendly option. We used the bathroom daily before moving and had no issues.

My lungs hurt just watching this. You should really consider wearing a respirator if you're painting, especially in an enclosed area with aerosol paint.

I enjoyed the video but I don't think you should be spraying in an enclosed area without facial protection. It is dangerous to breathe the fumes from spray paint cans. 3M makes some nice ones that are fairly convenient to use.

I chose to only paint the outside of my shower doors and leave the inside of the doors gold. You certainly could paint the interior of the doors as well just follow the instructions to use the right type of paint. No dumb questions ever. :)

You can definitely sand if you feel it is necessary. The paint adhered very well, but sanding is an option. Glad you liked the video.

What about the door casing, the part that is obscured by the door and the inside casing? I assume that’s a subsequent paint job, not present in your video.

Yep, once the outside dries you can do the inside the exact same way. Though I have to admit I didn't bother to do the inside casing of our door. It isn't visible to anyone unless they are actually taking a shower anyway. I know that would drive some people crazy but it doesn't bother me.

@pandasunny8031 2 minutes ago I spray painted a light fixture over my bathroom sink recently. I put up newspaper about 2 feet wide all around the light fixture to catch the paint spray. After I finished, I noticed that the black spray paint had got on everything in my bathroom. The paint was on my toilet, the floor, the bathtub, etc. I used solvent to wipe up the spray. I will NEVER EVER spray paint anything indoors ever again. Anything I want spray painted, I will take it outdoors and spray it there

Oh no! That is awful. It's always best to paint outside. In this case we didn't have much of a choice. But we spent extra time covering everything.

Kinda think you could rub some steel wool all over it to help with adhesion. Was also wondering what chemical would change the gold to black. Maybe something like the bluing repair for guns.

It held up very well. We have since sold the home but used that shower bathroom daily. It's an inexpensive fix and paint can be updated as needed.

Just wondering: We have exactly the same color gold frame around our shower stall as well. No need to lightly sand with 220 grit or anything for primer to adhere? Hope not! Thanks!

No, I didn't sand first, just cleaned REALLY well and then used primer and paint. The paint has held up well and doesn't scratch off.

Yes, it is just equal parts blue day and white vinegar! You can also add a little water to dilute it because it can be a bit smelly. I use it to clean basically everything in my bathroom and it works great.

I left the inside unpainted since nobody else will see it, but you could definitely paint it the same way. It's been a little over a year since I painted the outside and so far it has held up great with no peeling!

You did such a great job covering the surrounding area! But I just feel this method of using toxins in a confined space warrants mentioning - a mask and proper ventilation is so critical to the process.

It has been about a year since I first painted this and it has held up really well - no chips so far. I do not expect it to last forever - eventually all paint chips and has flaws but I'm hoping it will still look good for a few more years.

Just wondering why you didn't remove the whole shower door frame and door and do it outside? Seems it would have been just as easy if not easier. My shower has this same 90s gold vomit, but the whole thing is only held in by 4 screws. Take it outside, paint. Save the trouble of masking everything but the glass. No need to worry about paint dust and over-spray.

That is a great suggestion and really might be just as easy. My door is attached with screws but also a lot of caulking around the frame and I just didn't want to mess with removing it all.

Sometimes spray paint is the fastest option, but definitely want to ensure you take precautions with an open window or fan.

No, the paint shouldn't chip from water. Over time, the water and repeated touching may make the paint wear out more quickly. But as long as you prep it properly (clean and prime), I'm anticipating this paint job looking good for a few years. I will be sure to post a follow up of how it lasts.
