Thanks Henry. Bit of a pain if you decide to strip off the old paint like we did. Just keep it clean and the final layer of clear lacquer really gives it a nice finish
FabioUK yeah I think you are right. I’ve done a bit and was considering leaving it silver outside, and just painting the inside to clean it up. I know the outside will get scratched eventually because of where I’ll end up fishing but I think I’m going to go for it. That blue looks really nice by the way, but I’m just going for black with maybe a yellow flash. Cheers
FabioUK I’ve done just that. Started to prime the inside. Just needs another layer and it will be done. Decided to do the outside also but I’ll finish the inside first.
Hello, great job... i'm interested in how you made the trolling motor mount on the front top of the boat. Do you have a video for that? Also, why is the trolling motor on the bow? Is it for stability? Thanks. Virginia, USA
Hi, thanks for stopping by. That is a bow mount trolling motor, it's made specifically to be mounted on the bow. You generally use it to navigate while fishing, rather then going from A to B. This model has a GPS anchor, can follow contours etc. Being the pivoting point on the bow, it will make navigating so much easier. Have a look online, if you haven't seen them before they will blow your mind. Search for "Minn Kota i-pilot". Regarding the mount itself, I do have a few photos and videos, I can send them to you if you send me your email address. Take care.
The waters i fish are often quite murky, so painting the bottom would have been a waste of time i think. I didn't polish it, i only gave it a quick sand by hand to clean it and remove a few scratches
The Lake District? Unfortunately not. You'd be surprised to know that only a handful of lakes allow you to launch your own boat in the UK. It's depressing! That's why not many of us invest in better boats & rigs. Wisconsin is a complete different story! You call them lakes I'd call them sea! Thanks for the comment and stay safe!
I have never tried one. I think if you follow the viscosity instructions of the manufacturer, you should be able to. But that will probably mean thinning I guess, and applying more coats?
I've just bought an electric spray gun for a garden project. I can confirm you can easily do your boat with it. Again, get the paint to the right viscosity and test on a different surface first. Start with the lowest setting and find the sweet spot.
We Americans do it a bit smarter than you all do in the UK we use self leveling paint. You don’t need primer you don’t need reducer you just open up the can using a sponge 🧽 roller and start painting.
I would like to apologize for this idiot who I can assure you does not represent anyone or anything here in the states. And Charlie... you most definitely need self etching primer on an aluminum boat! Dumb ass!
